Hotels near John Murphy Park in Ottawa

Our flight landed in Ottawa well after the rental car companies at the airport shut down for the day. We decided to stay at a hotel close to the airport so we can go get our car the next morning. This hotel is really nice, spacious and clean! The front desk reps were all very upbeat and friendly. Our room was huge! We had 2 queen beds and there was a sitting area with a second tv and a full size sofa. The decor is a very clean, modern feel. The bathroom had a big glass shower with a bathtub/shower beside it. Tons of counter space in the sink area for all our toiletry bags and very well lit. Breakfast was a help yourself deal with hot and cold options. I wish I had booked this hotel for our entire stay instead of just one night, but being beside the airport was just too far away from all the touristy things in our capital city. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

I stayed in the cheapest single cell, where the bed just barely fits between the walls.. The mattress was very comfortable. The best place to store your luggage is under the bed. If you have a lot of luggage, shoving it far back under the bed can make it hard to retrieve. You could tie a rope to the bag so you can pull it out. When people are around, there's lots of noise in the cells. My trick for fealing with this is to use a phone with small, comfortable earbuds and an app that makes loud soothing noise -- like a rainstorm. (Many newer phones don't have a socket for earbuds. I bring along an old phone for this; it doesn't need cell service, though you'll need Wi-Fi to download/update a sleep app. I haven't tried iPhones; I use Android, which can be much cheaper.) I'dbbe cautious about wireless earbuds here... if they come out of your ears while you sleep, they could fall off the sides of the bed. (Getting under the bed near the head is not easy!) Wired earbuds are cheap to buy, especially on a site like Amazon with lots of choice (and reviews to help you choose). Maybe it was the size of this large hostel, and the empty halls, that made it feel less welcoming. I like hostels full of life, so I'm not sure I'll be back.

Our family of 4 needed a hotel near the airport between connecting flights so our expectation was not high. We always had good experience with other Hampton Inns so this was just an easy choice, assuming a known quality hotel and also close to the airport. The Good about this hotel - 1. close to airport 2. free shuttle (details to follow) 3. has a couple restaurants just across from the parking lot if you don't want to venture out too far 4. check-in was quick The Bad - 1. Free shuttle only starts at 6am so if you need to catch an early flight you'll need to find a taxi. In our case, we had to pre-book a taxi the night before because we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am. 2. The hotel shuttle was just a plain white van with no signs indicating it's for Hampton Inn. Driver was not in any kind of uniform and when I knocked on his window trying to inquire, he came out and yelled 'What's going on'. Well not exactly what I expect a hotel shuttle driver to identify himself that way. When I asked if he's from Hampton Inn the answer was yes. But in retrospect any random guy can give me the same answer and we just kinda need to trust that driver that he's a legitimate Hampton Inn shuttle driver. The whole short trip to the hotel we were wondering if we would end up getting mugged. Just not a good feeling and I think the hotel can handle this a lot better, how hard is it to give this driver an uniform with a hampton inn logo, or print a hampton inn logo on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard. At least something to make your shuttle and driver look a little bit more legitimate and make your guests feel a little bit safer. 3. As mentioned earlier we pre-booked a taxi to pick us up at 4:15am, turns out the front desk forgot to book it for us. When we got down to the lobby and looked for the taxi, that's when the front desk guy realized he forgot about it. So we waited for another 10-12 mins for the taxi to come. (taxi fare from hotel to airport was less than $20) 4. Not all electric outlets are working, in our room the one attached to the side table lamp didn't seem to work. Had to search high and low to have enough outlets to charge 4 phones and 4 apple watches. The Very Bad - The mattress was the absolute worse, I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that have mattresses that dip down about 2 inches and with no support whatsoever. I'm not a big person, but my husband is so the whole night I was sinking and rolling to my husband's side. All I needed was a few hours of sleep between flights and I could not get that because of the mattress. Tossing and turning the whole night and could not find a good position. My back was hurting the next day like I was sleeping on an absolute garbage mattress the night before. We did not use the free breakfast, coffee wasn't ready during our stay, no other amenities were used. I liked pretty much everything about this hotel. Although it was a bit out of the way from downtown, the train station was within walking distance and Uber to downtown was sub-$15. The front desk team was great, and my upgraded suite was huge with a nice kitchenette. Underground parking was free and convenient as well. Breakfast was okay albeit a bit overpriced, and Courtyard’s new “Bistro” style was not my favourite, although to no fault of this particular hotel. Renovation has started on the higher floors and I have to say it’s definitely overdue for one, in fact this is the only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars - the current state of the rooms was just unacceptable in 2022. Once the renos are completed, this hotel will tick all the boxes for a 10/10 comment card.

Overall this hotel is of good value with the cleanliness and proximity to downtown Ottawa. The hotel was opened to business in 2019. I redeemed from my Aeroplan for the 2 nights stay, and I paid $25/night for parking. Room - The room itself is clean with quite spacious bathroom. It is equipped with small fridge and there’s a microwave over the counter which is good. Amenities - it has a swimming pool and it’s clean with the adjacent patio and you can go outside which is good. It served complimentary breakfast with good selection of food. Plenty of seatings within the dinning area. Parking - OK but a bit tight in the parking stall however even it’s quite fully booked we are able to find parking. While we stayed I’ve found it interesting cleaning wasn’t done during the first night. The attendant made a mistake to our room and we ended up knocking the wrong room but it was an honest mistake I believed. What I’ve found it interesting though is right across diagonally across is a homeless shelter so just be prepared across the corner of the stress diagonally there’s a homeless shelter and be prepared for that. It didn’t bother me but you may end up having the room view of that depending on where your room is located. I’m sad to see so many of them and especially during the pandemic still seeing them on the street is a hit heartbreaking for me. This is a relatively new hotel and suitable for family and I’d recommend.

I booked 3 rooms as I took my associates to Spa Nordik. We checked in late at night and it was seamless, staff was friendly, lobby looks wonderful. The rest of the hotel though, at least the seventh floor needs updating and repairs. More effort needed to be put on cleaning, very disappointed of the cleanliness of two of my three rooms. Every other BW I stayed at had breakfast included, here there is a $15 charge for a continental breakfast. You can spend about $15 elsewhere and get a full breakfast with bottomless coffee. All I wanted in the morning was a fresh coffee, I did not want to spend an additional $90 for myself and associates just for coffee. I was willing to pay for the coffee but was told “it was not an option.” Really folks? I think the owner, manager, and BW chain should be embarrassed about this. $220 for each room, and I was not able to buy a coffee, in fact a multi million dollar business like BW should’ve just given me one. embarrassing

I rarely stay in hotels however I came to Ottawa to celebrate a kilometerstone (milestone for Americans ;-) birthday and decided to splurge a little. I was able to talk a friend into coming with me. I first saw this hotel on TripAdvisor, went to their own website and found I could book 4 nights for $119/nt. I spent about an hour looking around some of the big Internet travel sites and found the exact room promoted on one of them for $89! I called the hotel and asked if they price matched. After about 10min of them looking online to find the promo I was looking at, the shift supervisor approved the match! I had to agree to pay for all 4 nights whether I used them or not. I didn't care because I was coming! The location is GREAT, next to TransCanada/417 highway. That was very convenient as I had to drive to Carp the next morning and that was the highway I used. I was on that expressway 2 minutes after leaving the hotel! Check in was fast and efficient. The person checking me in was confused when I told her I was on a $89 promo, she had not heard about it but eventually found some notes on my reservation in the computer. Even though there was free parking, I wanted to leave the car at the hotel most days and take public transit downtown. I had heard even with the government shut down, parking was scarce and expensive in the city center. On check in I happened to ask how close a bus stop was to take us downtown as I wanted to do the double deck Grayline tour on Sunday and Monday. The desk clerk said I didn't need to take the city bus as the double deck bus picked up their guests every morning at 9am at the hotel! BONUS! I'm glad I asked. Our room was on the fourth floor and included two very comfortable Queen beds with 7” mattresses and fluffy comforters, a very nice bathroom, 40” LCD TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. They also had WiFi that worked great! There was only one ceramic cup and one plastic cup for the first night, we would have liked two ceramic cups but it was too late to call down and ask. Both my friend and I noted how quiet the surroundings were. Almost the entire floor had booked rooms for two nights but we didn't hear much noise. Also, we were on the back side of the hotel not facing the street or highway so that may have contributed to it. If I were to return, I would ask for a first floor room on the same side of the hotel as each had direct access to the parking lot. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, there were not enough electrical plugs and the only available one to plug in my cell phone and computer was so worn out that the cables would not stay in the plug. I always bring extra cables, I had a long extension that ran from near the head of my bed to the table at the other end of the room. Without it, I would not have been able to charge my devices. This hotel is pretty old and it shows, but the room was quite pleasant and spacious and the bed was comfortable. Loved that there was a room air filter machine plus an internal AC unit, though it didn't work terribly well. There was also a white noise machine which was lovely. The bathroom is super-small and the only disappointment during our stay. The staff was very solicitous and professional. Did not enjoy having to pay for parking over and above the cost of the room (that was a surprise), but I guess downtown hotels can command these fees. All in all a very pleasant stay, and I would book again if I could get a deal through Trip.com (rack rate is very pricy).
