Quinta Jardins do Lago

if you are looking for a really nice place to stay in Funchal, then this is a staggeringly good hotel. The staff are amazingly nice and helpful, the food is excellent and chef creates lovely menus for each day and then there is the gardens and the tortoise (!) - utterly amazing. Far exceeded our expectations.

There is no lack of superlatives that could describe Quinta Jardins do Lago for me. Having travelled to hundreds of hotels all over the world, I would rank this hotel in the top two, along with Nayara Springs in Costa Rica. If one has ever been to Augusta National for the Masters, just picture a hotel, staff and property in a similar theme. We actually starting trying to find something noteworthy reflecting lacking maintenance, training or gardening practices and failed. While this property is a bit more expensive, the experience in totality is like the awe of going to Disney World the first time as a kid. The staff do everything for you and are eager to please whether booking tours, shuttle, dinners or whatever you can think of to enjoy your visit to Madiera. Overall, incredible staff, property, gardens and location. Like so many others that we met who have been there many times, we'll be back!!

An outstanding experience, to be highly recommended. The team are kind friendly and helpful , the word No is NOT in anyone’s vocabulary..The gardens are glorious. This was our seventh visit and hopefully we will be able to return next year.

This is one of the most delightful hotels we have stayed in. It was a truly lovely experience - our superior bedroom was large and comfortable with beautiful views of the expansive, botanical gardens and, without exception, friendly and gracious staff. Breakfast in the garden each morning was accompanied by the sound of birdsong. We loved returning to our peaceful oasis after a hectic day's sightseeing. The hotel is ideally situated away from the hustle and bustle but only a short, cheap taxi ride to restaurants in Funchal town. There is also a free hotel minibus that does several runs daily to town if you don't want to drive/hire a car.

The whole experience is wonderful, the peace and tranquility, the extensive gardens with a wealth of interesting planting, very comfortable rooms, excellent service from all of the team, both professional and friendly and fine drinking and dining.

We spent Easter week at this wonderful hotel. This was mine and my husbands third visit, but out first with our 2 young children and my father. The whole week was bliss. Everyone at the hotel were unbelievably attentive and went out of their way to look after us. As a young family, they made us feel at home, and our children loved every minute of it. Our 3 year old little girl fell in love with Colombo and hasn't stopped talking about him since returning home. The hotel provided a lovely Easter egg hunt for the children staying at the hotel, which was so special. We explored Funchal but mainly used the week to relax and be together as a family. This was the perfect base. The children loved the children's pool and exploring the absolutely stunning gardens. As we stayed half board we had dinner every night at the hotel. The staff in the restaurant were very attentive to meet the needs of our baby which was so reassuring for parents travelling abroard with him for the first time. This was my father's first holiday abroad in over 20 years, and he couldn't have loved it anymore. As our return flight home was cancelled due to high winds, we had to stay at a different hotel for the night until we could fly home. The hotel that Jet2 put us up in was classed as a 5 star hotel and although it was lovely, it certainly wasn't the Quinta. The standards at Quinta Jardins do Lago are exceptional and go above and beyond 5 stars. If you want to relax, be surrounded by the most magnificent gardens and be looked after then this is the ideal hotel to stay at. As a family, we can't thank them enough for giving us the most beautiful family memories. We are already planning our return.

Our 10 day stay at this hotel was perfect in all respects. The staff could not do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble. Superb breakfast in a fantastic location. The spacious room was exceptionally cleaned each day. The gardens and facilities were superb. The hotel’s location made it a very quiet location but, close enough to visit Funchal with ease with use of the courtesy mini bus. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Our 6th visit and the excellent service from all the friendly staff remains the same. Perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday.

This is a truly exception hotel - everything from the rooms, to the gardens, to the staff is simply perfection. We were lucky to stay in beautiful late summer weather and enjoyed all the hotel had to offer - glorious garden, seasonal food and a beautiful swimming pool. Thank you so much for making us so welcome
