Cbh Donnington Manor Hotel

Sevenoaks|3.93km from city centre
I really like this hotel. It is inexpensive but has a personal touch that transcends that. You can see someone really cares. The rooms are nicely done, the bar is very nice and there’s a lot of commitment to technology. And THAT is where they need to get better. First of all there is some insane app that doggedly pursues you after registration to get every possible detail from your passport and credit card. But the site isn’t the hotel’s own website and it freaked me out that I had been phished. Even the reservation confirmation comes from an app that isn’t the hotel’s own website, but it’s a different app. Someone knows enough about technology to be dangerous. There’s not enough thought put in here to demonstrate that the hotel understands the risks of e-commerce. If you want an online check in you have to give an option for someone to ignore the link in the email and go to the website and independently verify it. Then there is the tragic misuse of technology at the bar. The hotel tells you everywhere that they don’t do anything with cash. So of course you follow their lead and don’t take cash to the bar. Thrn when asked to pay, you are presented with an option to add a tip. But it doesn’t work!! How embarrassing for me and the server. I tried to add a tip for Saraa’s excellent service. The credit card machine wouldn’t let me, and I had no cash in a hotel that said it wouldn’t accept cash. So now I still feel embarrassed that I couldn’t tip her and Saraa was very sweet about, but sweet don’t pay the rent. So PLEASE get an IT guy who understands human behavior and your hotel would be a hidden gem. Delightful staff. A real effort made to provide a hotel environment that punches above its price. You even get points for making the effort to have state of the art technology. Oh you are so close to being a five star review.

Castle Hotel

Eynsford|0.38km from city centre
Without doubt the best nights stayover I’ve had in years. There’s lots of hotels that play tricks on you. Like, instant coffee in a Cafetière, putting you in disabled access when you're of full ability to charging you for stuff you’d expect to get for gratis, wifi, parking etc etc. When the hot water only goes luke warm, the bath is 4ft and the shower heads max height is 5ft and you’re 5ft 10. The list is endless. Frozen butters, bread that’s thinner than a tramps shoe, jeez, don’t get me started. Non of that with The Castle in Eyesfleet. Plush, decor with soft music playing in the back ground, great lighting and all smiles from their super team. Rooms are light with crisp bed linen, lanterns, coffee machines, windows that actually open, vintage fans, green plants etc. The Castle is like Soho Houses baby brother. A great menu from their relatively new young chef. He left the flat plains of Norfolk heading for the Smoke, stumbled upon The Castle in Eyesfleet and has stayed ever since. Believe me, I know a Thai curry pie sounds grim but it was pretty sensational, although the accompanied gravy boat could’ve done with a touch of coconut/curry sauce. I’d suggested it, so if you order the curry pie and it comes with the sauce, you’ve me to thank. What else can I tell you? The bar? Cocktails, craft beers and more spirits than a haunted house. Full bodied reds available by the glass. Always a bugbear when the house red is like flamin’ Vimto. Not at the Castle, the Shiraz went straight to the knees and had me aiming for bed for a great nights kip.
