Jephson Hotel & Apartments

Toowong|0.87km from The Kingfisher Seafood Cafe
Loc Super convenient location on the corner of Jephson St and Sherwood Rd, with the popular Toowong Village Shopping Centre, a 10 minute walk away. The Toowong railway station can be accessed directly from the shopping centre. There are plenty of buses trundling up and down Sherwood Rd heading in various directions to the city or to the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre further south. The nearest ferry terminal is Regatta, less than a km away, but at the time of writing it is still under repair following last year's floods. Room We found the room to be clean, comfortable and spacious, with a large king bed, two bedside tables, each with a drawer and a lamp, a TV on the wall, and a handy desk for working at. On the balcony, was a small table and two chairs. There were plenty of power points to charge appliances and the downlights were strong enough for easy reading. The stylish touch lamp on the desk and standing lamp in the corner were useful for extra illumination. There was a hanging rail with about eight hangers. There were two sets of two drawers, one underneath the hanging rail and the safe, with one larger set underneath the TV. They were reasonably sized, but being virtually on the floor, they were super inconvenient to access. I can’t understand why the designers didn’t think of this, because it’s extra difficult to get down so low, especially if you’re a bit older, or with knee problems. Also in the room was a safe but that too required bending down. On top of the safe and below the hanging rail was a shelf to store one suitcase. The tea and coffee making facilities were also very difficult to access as they were rammed into a little shelf snuck between the drawers and the desk-top. The room though was quiet, being at the back of the property and therefore not facing directly onto either Jephson Street or Sherwood Rd, both busy roads. One could hear some noise from within the hotel as people walked up and down the corridor, but it was a minor inconvenience and most fellow guests seemed friendly and well behaved. There wasn’t much of a view, and the room just looked out onto the sprawling next door apartment complex, and to the right between the trees we could see Jephson Street, and the traffic going up and down, but the sound didn’t carry into the bedroom if the balcony door was kept closed. Bathroom The bathroom was not an en-suite, being situated in the passageway, between the front door and the bed. That was just as well, as it had a sliding door, which is never great for privacy, although it could be locked. But the bathroom was modern and stylish, and the water pressure in the shower was strong. A transparent glass wall separated the bathroom from the bedroom, which shocked me when I first saw it. I immediately phoned the reception to tell them that we needed another room due to the lack of bathroom privacy. But luckily, as reception pointed out to me, the glass has an inbuilt feature which, at the flick of a switch could turn i

Benson Court Motel

They have everything you could need for a few nights stay. It has a kettle, toaster, microwave, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, cutlery and crockery. The queen size bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. Excellent shower pressure with a big shower head. A comfortable lounge, a nice tv on the wall and an air conditioner which was more difficult to use than just pressing the on/off button unfortunately but we managed. We had a room at the front of the motel, on the road side but we had no problem falling asleep...noise was not an issue. It is an older motel and has keyed locks instead of key cards but both the rooms and the building are secure and we felt very safe staying there. The free, unsecured wifi is acceptable but not always reliable. Still, better than some places we’ve stayed. They have a great folder in the room that has some information about local places to eat-in, take-away or get delivered...very helpful. All of the staff we met, including a housekeeper who we asked for help with the A/C were very friendly and accommodating. I couldn’t ask for anything better at a surprisingly modest daily rate. We would definitely stay again.

We checked in Monday 25th July and checked out Monday 1st August this was a 7-night stay. We stayed in apartment 15 which faces onto Jephson street, Toowong. Toowong is actually somewhere we lived several years ago and back then - 2014 - we were quite close to this complex so we have some previous experience of this immediate area. It is a very good spot to be placed; plenty of public transport, car parking in complex, shopping at nearby Toowong Village Complex, a ‘GoodLife Gym’ (which if you ask management nicely may let you have a very reasonably priced short-term daily / weekly entrance pass – my wife did this), coffee shops and so on. Good spot to be. Just across the road is 'The Gunshop Cafe' - we had a breakfast there really, really recommend. Toowong Central Apartments are an older set of 28 apartments BUT the welcome, the hosting, the housekeeping and in particular the unit we stayed in was fresh and crisp. Please note: this is a busy area at times so you will experience traffic noise (peak hours) and this was the case in apartment 15; for us however it was not an issue – we have traveled extensively and when our heads hit the (very comfortable bed and pillows, in this case) we sleep like logs. If, however, you are a light sleeper speak in advance to manager Jack (who is very approachable) and see if one of the other units might be available and perhaps better suit your needs. I am confident he will do his best for you if he can. Check-in time was 1.00pm; we arrived sometime prior to check-in but on-site manager Jack kindly took our luggage to store whilst my wife went (via ‘Good-life Gym’) to an early morning business meeting; I went out for coffee and breakfast – lots of choice very close by. Worth noting that on-site manager Jack has been here for the last ten years; he is still, self-evidently, keeping a firm hand on his leadership and management duties even during these difficult Covid / post Covid times when hospitality has really struggled. Jack is, in our short stay here, doing a good job in providing safe, serviceable, comfortable and welcoming apartment type accommodation. Thank you – Jack! When finally we were checking in, the first thing I heard was my wife exclaim from the bathroom: ‘Home-made hand soap! How lovely!’ Good start! Apartment 15 is very well presented; the unit is in really good condition beautifully clean and really welcoming. Very strong (free) Wi-Fi and reliable connection throughout our stay. The double bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is in excellent condition (looks fairly new) and water pressure from shower excellent. Hot water plentiful with no loss of heat if enjoying an extended shower. Comfortable sofa, comfortable table and chairs both inside and outside (on balcony); all serviceable and well maintained. Kitchen area beautiful clean on arrival and all is in place to make our stay a pleasant one. Fridge good and cold. Great lighting throughout this unit. Loved the bedside lamps. Ther
