The room wasn't huge, but we still had ample space to open our suitcases.
**Cleanliness**: Japanese hotels consistently uphold incredibly high standards of cleanliness!
**Facilities**: The large public bath was a definite bonus! The rooftop open-air onsen, a genuine carbonated hot spring, was incredibly relaxing. Soaking there while idly gazing at the distant harbor was pure bliss.
**Location**: The surrounding area offered fantastic convenience for exploring, with an abundance of shopping and dining options that catered to every preference.
This was my first time staying here.
All the staff were very kind and I had a very pleasant stay.
The room was clean and I wanted a place with a good view, so I checked the boxes and got a nice room on the top floor ᕷ⋆͛*
There was no noise and I was able to sleep and spend time comfortably ☆
I will definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity ♪♪
The breakfast was also delicious ♪
My girlfriend and I recently stayed here. The hotel boasted a serene atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness. The staff were incredibly courteous and attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. The onsen water was gentle on the skin and perfectly eased our travel fatigue. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in a dining area with a splendid view. My girlfriend was extremely pleased as well, and it became a cherished memory for us. It was such a wonderful hotel that we'd definitely love to visit again.
This room is best suited for couples or solo travelers. If you're over 180cm (about 5'11”) tall, I strongly advise against booking it as you'll find it extremely cramped. Similarly, if a couple is on the larger side, it might be a tight squeeze. It's truly ideal only for those who are not particularly tall or big.
The main perk is the access to the hot springs at the adjacent hotel, where the water is wonderfully soothing. Although there's a hot spring swimming pool upstairs, it was too cold and windy to enjoy; I visited in late May, and it was still quite cool.
The location is very convenient, with supermarkets and convenience stores nearby. It's an 8-minute walk from Beppu Station, and even if you arrive by bus, it's just a 10-minute stroll, making transport very easy.

This hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Beppu's Hells, with attractions literally on its doorstep. All five Hells (Jigoku) are within a 3-5 minute walk, which is incredibly convenient!
While the hotel's exterior is unassuming, its interior is a hidden gem. The Japanese garden in the common areas is beautiful. Our room was spacious with a great view, allowing us to see the steam rising from the Hells. Plus, having a private onsen in the room meant we could soak to our heart's content! We even had the large public bath all to ourselves during our visit.
The Teppanyaki set meal we booked was a good experience, though we wished there was a little more meat.
We specifically requested Japanese-style breakfast when booking, but for some reason, we were given Western-style instead. When we inquired, the staff informed us that it couldn't be changed.
On a very positive note, it was our wedding anniversary trip, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a small gift and took commemorative photos for us – a very nice touch! Aside from these minor issues, everything else was fantastic.
The only real downside was the hotel's shuttle service to the station. While they offer it, the last departure is strictly before 11 AM. If you miss it, you have to take a taxi. It feels a bit inconvenient to offer a service with such a limited timeframe. For instance, we visited the Hells in the morning and ended up leaving the hotel after 11 AM, so we had to take a taxi to the JR station. An improvement here would be much appreciated!
Overall, my husband, who was visiting Japan for the first time, said it was an excellent Japanese onsen hotel experience. He gives it a big thumbs up!
The building was rustic and charming. The rooms were clean and spacious. You can tell it was built a while ago but well kept. It was less than 5 minutes from Beppu Station, and breakfast was free, although we never went to it. Highly recommend this location.
The Hotel is a great choice for travelers — it’s very close to Beppu Station, just a short walk away. Within four minutes, there’s a local public onsen nearby, and the front desk can provide single-use body wash and shampoo upon request, which is really thoughtful.
The hotel itself is clean and well-maintained, and the front desk staff are extremely helpful, always ready to assist with any needs or questions. A comfortable and convenient place to stay if you’re exploring Beppu!

First of all, the staff were so kind that I felt really good the whole time I was staying at the accommodation. ㅎㅎ
I was worried that it would be too cold to sleep in the room that included a private hot spring, but I turned on the heater and slept so it was so hot that I slept with the window open. ㅎㅎ
The hotel is situated 15 minutes taxi ride from the Beppu station. So we have nowhere to go that night. But it's good enough to have hotspring and drinks in the hotel. The staff is very polite and can explain what you can do in English. Then you were lead to the room and tips rejected.
We booked the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. The dinner time is either 6pm or 6:30pm and the breakfast time 8am or 8:30. The dinner is good but maybe my expectation is quite high, it didn't reach my expectation, especially for the sashimi.
For the onsen, there are 4 private onsens and 2 public. One of the private onsens is closed. Therefore we can use 3. You can use the private onsen when it is not occupied. Just lock the door and turn the plate to the other side. But all the onsen are closed by 12 midnight. And there is a room with free flow beer and soda, but it closes at 10pm. Don't drink beer before taking hotspring.
There is also an onsen in our room which can be used anytime. It's hot at night but not so hot in the next morning. Overall, the view is good. The staff is good. The food is good (just not so great) and the onsens are good. Beppu is a good place to stay a few days more

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is conveniently located right next to Oita Station, making it extremely easy to get around. In the evenings, the hotel provides complimentary ramen. Additionally, the supermarket within AMU PLAZA, located right at the station, offers discounted food items before closing. Overall, staying here makes dining, accommodation, and transportation incredibly convenient.
KKritThe Hotel, Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort and Spa has lots of things to do. I will start at the entrance. At the entrance, there is a helper which brings your bags to a cart. You have to drag your cart to the check in. At the right side, there is a swimming pool. At the left side, there is a store with Claw machines and snacks. When you finish doing the check in, You have to carry the cart in the elevator and up to your room. At the 3 rd floor, there is a playroom. At the underground level, there is an public onsen and changing room. In the 2 floor, there is a big restaurant. I think the food is so good but it closes to fast (9.30). We can walk to 7 but we have to walk down and up a small hill.

GGuest UserExcellent!
Awesome lobby, incredible seaview, great service, competent and very polite staff, good food, room very clean, onsen is great with free branded amenities choices 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. location is a bit off, fortunately have shuttle.
Special thanks to Harada san 👍🏻👍🏻 helped to arrange smooth transfer from hotel to airport.
Appreciate the hospitality from quite a number of multilingual staff 👏🏻👏🏻. Onsen is great, unlimited free drinks! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻coffee, coke, green tea, etc 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Breakfast is good, value for money, nice to try. Dinner is 90-mins semi buffet, no choice for the set, special arrangement if you don’t eat beef, but take some time. Lots of wine varieties, if you don’t drink alcohol, the dinner price is NOT worth.
My comment: Highly recommended. need to have car, my case is with sudden car break down with no replacement. Grandvrio did a great job!👏🏻👏🏻
GGuest UserI stayed for two days. The hotel is on the mountain, but there is a car that can take me to and from the station. The hotel service is very good. Knowing that there are children, they have prepared bathrobes and toothbrushing supplies for the children. The room has a private bath, and I often soaked in the hot spring during my two-day stay. It was so comfortable. In addition, my favorite meal is the Wagyu beef on the first night and the shabu shabu on the second night. The breakfast is different on both days. I look forward to meal time every day.
Some of the staff can speak Mandarin or Cantonese, and they are very nice and attentive to help. It is a hotel worth recommending.
GGuest UserIt was a ryokan that children loved and adults enjoyed as well. The location was good and although the open-air bath was not very large, it was a great temperature that children could enjoy.
GGuest UserThe hotel is older! The service condition is acceptable! The hotel staff took the initiative to help! The important thing is free parking! The price also comes with breakfast! Except for the poor sound insulation, there is nothing to fault!

CCrYsTaLjaYStaff are very nice, with traditional style of old onsen hotel, need 12 to 15 mins walk from public transport station, the hotel does not have shuttle bus service, but there are daiso, aeon supermarket and convenience store nearby, and great natural mountain view, the dinner is delicious and full.
