This place was a hidden gem in the middle of old town, this is the real Xiamen from many many years ago and the mansion is a beautiful place with lots of history and character. The courtyard is a very calming place to relax or work, there are plenty of areas inside and out where you can relax, meet up or work on your computer, the area is quiet, you wont hear much more than the birds chirping. It can be difficult to find as it is located in the narrow alleys that traverse all through old town like a maze but most of them link up and I have not found it dificult to make my way back to the hotel, besides exploring through these alleyways is quite interesting. Zhongshan road walking street is just a few mins walk from here and you can access it through many different routes through the alley ways. Staff are accommodating and the place feels like home even though it is so foreign to my actual home. There are multiple cats roaming around outside although they keep to themselves, if you have sever cat allergy this is something to consider.

What an amazing experience to live in the “chopsticks” buildings of the four dishes and one soup! This was a small and beautiful village and the family who ran the inn helped us carry our luggage up to the inn and later down to the inn. When we arrived they cooked a dinner which was reasonable in price based on a local menu. And then during dinner, they told us that one of the family members will be running a free tour of the Tulous of four dishes one soup for us in which they explained the history of the building of the tulous, especially the oval shaped tulou. Our guide was very funny with his stories (he spoke in Chinese) and it was a lovely time seeing the artists and candy makers in the Tulous. I would highly recommend this place. We did have to bring our own towels (or at least we brought our own and they didn’t supply one), so maybe best to check.

I booked a large room for 2 nights. It was clean and tidy. The boss, whose surname is Zhang, is not very talkative but very sincere. He has arranged the best route to the Tulou and introduced the history and origin of the Tulou. He knows that the customer has a hard time traveling and will go to the nearest place to meet you at the next stop. Don’t miss the boss lady’s local chicken soup and braised bamboo shoots with pickled vegetables for dinner. They are cheap and high-quality but especially tender and delicious😋. Recommendation to all young travel companions: You can choose to charter a car when booking the inn. As it wasn't a busy time and we were staying for a whole week, on check they upgraded us to the Wooden Loft Family Room, which was quite nice. The room was comfortable with big windows and a nice view across the stream to the forest. It was great to have a washing machine and the washing machine had a dryer function as well so we could still dry our clothes when it was cloudy and cool. The smart toilet was a bit disappointing as the controller wasn't very responsive and the flush was very weak. The tub was nice though the water was not quite hot enough to make it comfortable. Most of all we enjoyed the courtyard area and the breakfast/restaurant area, especially the tea room. They are really well designed and organized and provide a nice space to relax and read and write. The breakfast was quite nice, they provide a serving size based on the number of people, though it was often not enough for us and we normally asked for another serving. They also brought a fruit and yogurt platter to the room in evenings which we also enjoyed. The location is convenient to walk down to the Yuchanglou Tulou in Xiabancun, though part of the way will be on the main road which can be busy with traffic. To get to other areas such as Tianluokeng and Taxiacun it is also possible to walk, though again sometimes you have to walk on the main road as there is no walking path or small side road. There is a tourist bus service that goes between the scenic spots and you can even flag them down in between though you are supposed to have purchased a transportation ticket first and that is not striaghtforward to get if you didn't get it in advance. So, most guests come with their own car or rent one. If arriving by train, while trip.com shows the Yongding and Longshan railway stations as the closest, actually the quickest and most convenient station is the one at Nanjing. Also, because the hotel is within the scenic area you do need to purchase tickets to enter, either online tickets or paper tickets at the gate.
