I chose a hotel near Kyoto Station for my 'oshikatsu' (fandom activities) trip to Kyoto. It's just across the road, super close to Kintetsu Kyoto and the Shinkansen. However, on my first day, coming from the subway, I got completely lost trying to find my way to the south plaza… The single room was quite spacious, actually, and the whole place felt very comfortable and clean. Both check-in and check-out were self-service, and no one disturbed me during my stay. I even got a corner room, which was really quiet and peaceful. The only minor issue was that the water pressure and temperature in the shower were a bit inconsistent – sometimes scalding hot, sometimes lukewarm.
The hygiene was good. The room was a bit small, as expected, making it hard for two people to move around with luggage. There's no bathtub, just a shower, which was convenient enough. Breakfast is a set menu, with Chinese and Western options for the main course, served by the staff. We really hoped it wouldn't rain, because if it does, you'll hear the sound of rain hitting the awning all night long. It's really loud, so if you're a light sleeper, you probably won't be able to handle it. The hotel's location is super convenient, which is definitely its biggest highlight.

Traveling with my mom, we chose Hotel Lotus-no-Yu in Kyoto, and it was the most memorable hotel of the trip! It has a very distinct Kyoto charm, is conveniently located very close to Kyoto Station, and the staff are polite and gentle. Since it was close to a holiday, there were a lot of people, which led to some crowding, and we had to queue for breakfast (you can get a number online first and then go down when your number is called). However, the breakfast was very rich. The onsen was very comfortable, and I would definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Kyoto; I imagine the experience would be even better if we avoided holidays. The only thing is that you have to take off your shoes at the entrance, and when there are a lot of people, it can get a bit smelly. It would be great if they could do something about the odor. 😂

This is exactly the place I want to return to! A wonderful hotel in a great location, with nice rooms and decent renovations. We didn't have a view from the window, but that's not a problem.
There is a coffee machine here, free for hotel guests. This is a big plus, thank you!
The staff are polite and always ready to help you.

The location is fantastic, right between Takashimaya and Bal in Kawaramachi, with Opa, Don Quijote, Uniqlo, and tons of drugstores behind it. The room has a lovely wooden decor and great lighting, and the amenities are super complete – the pajamas are so comfy! There's a famous sushi restaurant downstairs that I'd originally planned to try in Tokyo, so it was a pleasant surprise to find it here! The lounge on the third floor is excellent, with coffee available all day, and in the evenings, there's wine and Japanese snacks. One night, they even had s'mores on the outdoor patio, which was so much fun! Breakfast was delicious, especially the Japanese breakfast, which is limited to 30 servings daily and absolutely amazing! I will definitely be back!

The attention to detail at this hotel is exceptional. The hotel's brochure provides incredibly detailed information about all facilities and their origins, covering everything from furniture and bedding brands down to the specific brand of mouthwash cups. The rooms are also spacious, and the air conditioning is remarkably quiet. The bakery in the ground floor lobby is delicious – truly, good ingredients make for great taste! I particularly liked the greenery right at the hotel entrance and the overall decor of the lobby. The only minor drawback is the lack of a convenience store nearby; you have to walk about 500-600 meters to find a FamilyMart.

The rooms are decent. There's a communal bath, which is kind of like a hot spring, though the water is just regular tap water – it was clean and hygienic. On the second floor, there's a ping-pong table, an all-you-can-drink bar, and a small kids' play area. It feels like a friendly little community. The staff are all polite and attentive.
There's an aquarium very close by, and the hotel has a back entrance for direct access. We didn't realize this until we walked all the way around in the rain!
There's a surface parking lot if you drive, costing 2500 yen per day for unlimited use, but the small road leading in can be a bit tricky to find.

The hotel is a nice stay but with some obvious shortcomings. The main drawback was breakfast. For a four-star hotel, the breakfast was underwhelming: bland taste, and things that should be hot, like tempura and harsh brown, were all cold. It was not vegetarian-friendly, esp in the hot savoury section. I mentioned this to the hotel, who confirmed their lack of accommodation for vegos. The window to the bathroom also stays slightly bright thru the night, so it might affect light sleepers. Otherwise the location is fantastically close to Kyoto station with many nice restaurants nearby, easy bus access to the shrines, and the onsen was pretty decent. Laundry is free as long as you purchase the detergent.

I brought my parents to Kyoto and we stayed at this hotel. The triple room was incredibly spacious, much larger than the double rooms I've stayed in before. It was clean and tidy, with excellent hygiene. The private onsen comes highly recommended! My parents also had a fantastic stay. All in all, it's a perfect score!
Service: Check-in was at 3 PM, and the front desk service was thoughtful and thorough. They explained the hotel facilities very clearly. (If you don't speak Japanese, there are staff who speak English.)
Facilities: It's a very traditional Japanese-style room, which my parents loved. The public bathing area was also very clean, and the private onsen was super comfortable. The hotel signage was clear, and every detail was meticulously thought out – really impressive!
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast offered a wide and diverse selection, with both Western and Japanese options, and plenty of delicious desserts! We were absolutely stuffed~

The room was spotless and well-equipped, though the space was quite limited. The staff were truly considerate; I wasn't sure how to sort the fruit, yogurt, and instant noodle packaging from my child's meal, and a hotel employee simply handed me a trash bag and offered to take care of it. For breakfast at the restaurant, the steak was my favorite, and my child enjoyed it too.

AAnonymous UserLocation needs to walk out to main road for local city bus, area is in Gion area, walkable to Main Street from nearest bus stop. Hotel is small however interior is decent looking. To note, no housekeeping service even though I stayed for 3 nights
MMaverickWhen we first got there, there wasn’t any staff at the reception, apparently to call them, you would have to pick up the phone on the front desk. Although the staff speak limited English, they are friendly and accommodating.
There was PLENTY of space in the room, being able to open 2 big luggage’s with room to walk around. There was the minor inconvenience of having to pack our belongings and put to a side for check out every day, and check in again.
The breakfast of 2 options (Western/Japanese style) was a tad bit too salty for our liking. We had the chance to utilise the roof top onsen, and which was quite a refreshing experience.
The location is 10/15mins away from the nearest train station, so not very convenient when we were pushing our luggages to the hotel.
PPhillip SawThe room is big and it has all the amenities eg. TV, Big bed, jacuzzi, well equipped toilet, etc. All the toiletries are beyond our needs. Movies are free and breakfast are really cheap. The only drawback is the nearest metro station is 1 km away. But the room is value for money. Highly recommended.
