Romantic Hotels in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

I chose this hotel primarily for its excellent location, directly across the road from Kyoto Station, which made getting around incredibly convenient! Secondly, the hotel service was absolutely top-notch. Whether it was at check-in or with room service, the staff were enthusiastic and patient – truly the best service I've experienced in Kyoto! Although the hotel is a bit older, the rooms were clean and hygienic, offering great value for money. When you factor in the service quality and location, its age is almost negligible. I've stayed at hotels near Kyoto Station multiple times, and this one has been the most satisfying overall! I stayed for four consecutive days, visiting all the popular spots in Kyoto. Whether taking the bus or subway, or heading to 7-Eleven or the AEON next door, everything was just a 5-minute walk away! It's quite suitable for family trips too.

I had a great stay at Agora Kyoto Karasuma. The hotel has a calm, elegant atmosphere, and the rooms are thoughtfully designed with a minimalist Japanese style that feels both modern and cozy. The location is perfect, close to transportation, shops, and great local restaurants, which made getting around Kyoto very convenient. The staff were kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their hospitality made the experience even better. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely choose Agora Kyoto Karasuma again on my next visit to Kyoto.

When I booked the hotel, I specifically requested a high floor. The standard check-in time was 3 PM, and our family of three arrived around 3:45 PM to check in. To my surprise, the front desk attendant, a tall Japanese man wearing glasses, assigned us a room on the lowest possible floor, the second floor. I communicated with him for about ten minutes, reiterating our request for a high floor. The front desk attendant was very arrogant, claiming that our reservation didn't show any request for a high floor and insisting that the hotel was fully booked for the day. He said that if we wanted a high floor, we would have to switch rooms tomorrow. Of course, we understand that high floor requests depend on the hotel's availability on the day, but this hotel has around 400 rooms, and we didn't arrive late at night. The hotel has nine floors in total; we would have been perfectly fine with a room on the 4th or 5th floor, especially since we were staying for three nights with a child. If it were just one night, we might have just put up with it. Despite our efforts, the communication was fruitless. After going up to the room, I called the front desk again to request a room change. Less than five minutes later, the same front desk attendant appeared with a room key for the 9th floor. So, we dragged our luggage and our child up to the 9th floor, only to find it was the very last room, furthest from the elevator. Later, I contacted Trip.com's customer service, who were very helpful and contacted the hotel. The next day, the front desk informed us that they could arrange a room closer to the elevator, but we had already unpacked our luggage, so we decided not to switch rooms again. The front desk then offered us a complimentary room cleaning for the day. All in all, the entire check-in process was incredibly frustrating. It felt like that front desk attendant was intentionally making things difficult for us! On a positive note, the hotel's location is excellent and convenient for getting around. The breakfast was similar to other Dormy Inn hotels, and they also offered free ramen at night. However, the dining area was extremely crowded due to group tours. The variety of hot spring baths was better than other Dormy Inn hotels, but there were no semi-outdoor baths.

My room showcased an attractive fusion of modern design and traditional Japanese elements. Soft earth tones, tasteful décor, and well-chosen furnishings created an atmosphere that was both chic and peaceful. The spacious bathtub, in particular, stood out as the perfect place to unwind after wandering Kyoto’s centuries-old streets. Although I didn’t have a chance to sample the hotel’s dining options, every other aspect of my stay was faultless. The exquisite decor, the serene environment, and the staff’s unparalleled service exceeded all my expectations. If you’re seeking a sophisticated, relaxing retreat that still allows you to easily explore Kyoto’s rich cultural heritage, Saka Hotel Kyoto is an excellent choice.

I booked this for my parents last year, and they gave great feedback. So, this time, I booked it for my own trip. However, I didn't encounter the Chinese-speaking front desk staff my parents mentioned, but English communication was perfectly fine. The location is super convenient, right next to Kyoto Station, with a 7-Eleven just across the street. I highly recommend getting the breakfast; it's absolutely delicious! They have curry rice, oden, miso soup, and even matcha ice cream. The top floor has a free public bath, and it wasn't too crowded when I went. The hygiene was excellent, 100 times better than bathhouses in China. Room amenities are self-serve downstairs. I even borrowed a curling iron from the front desk, which required a 3000 yen cash deposit. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you're traveling with seniors or children. The room size is quite generous for Japan.

To start with the positives, the hotel was well located and easily accessible using the metro from Kyoto station. The room was a decent enough size and the staff were friendly and helpful. One major issue we encountered during our stay was the level of humidity in the room. The extractor fan didn't seem to be doing anything to impact moisture in the room, particularly after a warm shower. There was some treated glass above the sink and often this was the only area without moisture well over half an hour after having a shower. (Photos attached) This also meant that towels weren't drying correctly and created an unpleasant environment and ultimately odour in the room. The humidity was so high that the windows were dripping with water consistently and the window sill was actually wet. Additionally the absence of a full wardrobe (just a rail with hangers on) also created challenges when staying for longer than a couple of days and this combined with the humidity made the washing machine almost obsolete.

The hotel is right next to Kyoto Station, just a short walk across a small road, which is incredibly convenient for transport. The decor is new, and the rooms are spacious. The hotel clearly strives to offer good value through its design and attention to detail. However, the public areas are quite small and don't offer much in terms of amenities or space to relax. A significant drawback is that none of the rooms have a view; the windows look directly out onto the walls of adjacent buildings, which feels quite confining and uninspiring.

I brought my parents to Kyoto and we stayed at this hotel. The triple room was incredibly spacious, much larger than the double rooms I've stayed in before. It was clean and tidy, with excellent hygiene. The private onsen comes highly recommended! My parents also had a fantastic stay. All in all, it's a perfect score! Service: Check-in was at 3 PM, and the front desk service was thoughtful and thorough. They explained the hotel facilities very clearly. (If you don't speak Japanese, there are staff who speak English.) Facilities: It's a very traditional Japanese-style room, which my parents loved. The public bathing area was also very clean, and the private onsen was super comfortable. The hotel signage was clear, and every detail was meticulously thought out – really impressive! Breakfast: The buffet breakfast offered a wide and diverse selection, with both Western and Japanese options, and plenty of delicious desserts! We were absolutely stuffed~

🏠 Room: The double bed is 1.8 meters wide, and the room is about 25 sqm. There's plenty of space, even with two suitcases open. The bathroom truly has a three-part separation! The bathtub and shower area are separate (finally, no more showering while standing in the tub!), the vanity is spacious, and there's a niche next to it for toiletries. ✨ Service: Check-in and check-out are handled at the front desk on the 8th floor. You can store your luggage on the 1st floor after checking out. After 2 PM, complimentary snacks and drinks are available on the 3rd floor. On sunny days, they even light an outdoor bonfire where you can roast marshmallows! Daily housekeeping ensures a very comfortable stay. 📍 Location: Conveniently located between Sanjo and Shijo, making it easy to get anywhere. 🚇 A 5-minute walk to Kawaramachi Station and a 10-minute walk to Sanjo Keihan Station. 🏮 Within walking distance of Takase River, Kennin-ji Temple, Hanamikoji Street, Gion, Yasaka Shrine, and more... 🛍️ Takashimaya, Marui Department Store, and drugstores are all nearby. 🍣 Plenty of restaurants in the vicinity, offering diverse options from breakfast to late-night snacks.

Booked this for a friend. The main draw was the fantastic location, right across from Kyoto Station, which is super convenient whether you're taking the Shinkansen, JR, or the Osaka Airport Limousine bus, all within a 5-minute walk. My friend left their instant camera in the room when checking out, and the hotel immediately contacted Trip.com to inform them. Really appreciate their quick action. Excellent service!
