4-Star Hotels in Gansu, China

During our trip to Zhangye, we chose the Hanting Premium Hotel based on its reputation. However, my husband suddenly developed acute gastroenteritis while we were there. What I expected to be an anxious and helpless experience turned into an incredibly precious and heartwarming one. Our attendant, Tian Li, immediately accompanied us to the clinic, meticulously took care of ordering our meals, and even personally prepared and delivered congee and fish soup, which deeply moved us. Tian Li and Zhu Jing then helped us cancel our train tickets and rebook our return flights, ensuring we had no further worries. Meanwhile, the restaurant staff's warm concern made us feel truly cared for; every meal was filled with warmth. The cleaning lady was also incredibly thoughtful and thorough, tidying up our room multiple times a day, allowing us to rest peacefully even in this special situation. Every small detail showed genuine care. The warmth of that bowl of hot congee and those comforting words made a foreign place feel less strange and our hearts feel secure and supported. Some emotions are beyond words but will stay in our hearts forever. We are grateful for this encounter and for this kindness that goes above and beyond service. 🙏 Such service deserves to be seen by more people. I genuinely recommend it, five-star rating!

Zhangye isn't a large city, so staying near the West High-Speed Rail Station is convenient. It's mostly residential around here, so the environment is generally quiet. Taxis are easy to find, and it's only a couple of kilometers to the city center, costing a very cheap six or seven yuan. The only minor drawback is that you have to walk a bit with your luggage after getting off the high-speed train. I'd recommend just taking a taxi directly. After a terrible stay in Dunhuang for the first two nights, I really put my trust in an international brand, and the management level is completely different. Hampton Inn isn't luxurious, but it has everything you need. Plus, the hotel is new, the soundproofing is excellent, and you can choose a memory foam pillow, which is great for people with neck problems. Also, the laundry room is fantastic! It started snowing in the morning and my pants and clothes got wet, but I was able to wash and dry them immediately after going back at noon, which was incredibly practical! Because I had a late flight, the front desk allowed me a late check-out, which was great. There's bottled water available on every floor, and plenty of seating in the lobby on the first floor, so you don't have to worry about lingering, and charging is convenient. The breakfast is decent, and considering it's around 300 yuan a night, it's quite reasonable. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this hotel and highly recommend it for anyone staying in Zhangye.

When I came to Dunhuang, I chose this newly renovated hotel, hoping the facilities would be better. **Location:** I saw in the description when I booked that it was very close to the night market. In reality, it's about a 15-20 minute walk, which isn't super close. However, taxis in Dunhuang are cheap, starting at around 6 RMB, so it's still very convenient. It's also a short taxi ride to Mingsha Mountain, Mogao Grottoes, and the Dunhuang Museum. **Environment:** Since it's newly renovated, it's indeed quite good. The shower has great water pressure and hot water. The facilities are also complete, and having a humidifier is a big plus. I was told the fridge was removed because few guests use it this season, but after calling the front desk, they sent one up. Also, the main road outside is under construction, so there's some noise during the day, but it doesn't affect sleep at night. **Cleanliness:** It's cleaned daily and is quite tidy. The breakfast selection is quite rich, with both Chinese and Western options. They have freshly made beef noodles, lamb soup, and wontons, so you definitely won't go hungry.

This hotel deserves a perfect score 💯! It was the most comfortable and satisfying stay I had along the Qinghai-Gansu loop, and the price offers incredible value for money. 1. There were complimentary snacks in the room upon check-in. 2. The staff were very thoughtful and provided a guide to Zhangye, which gave us plenty of ideas for food, fun, and entertainment. 3. The hairdryer being a Laifen brand is a definite plus! 4. Breakfast was incredibly rich and plentiful. Everyone in my group raved about it and said it kept them full until lunch! Turns out the Lanzhou noodles at this hotel are made fresh on the spot.

Just a few minutes' walk from Dunhuang Night Market, the hotel was clean and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The front desk staff were all very welcoming and always had a smile on their faces. Ms. Xiaoqing from the tourism department, who picked us up, was also incredibly warm and hospitable. Big thumbs up! Next time I come to Dunhuang, I'll definitely stay at Dunhuang Hotel again.

The hotel wasn't really up to standard. I booked an 'honourable room' because it had an air purifier. However when I tried to cool down the room with the air con it didn't work. I called reception and they said the air con wasn't turned on and only 'natural ventilation' was available! And this was when the air pollution outside was at very high levels. Really not acceptable in a supposed 4-star hotel that advertises that it has air con - this is part of the reason I booked! The staff were as helpful as they coukd be under the circumstances - they bought in a fan which made the temperature bearable.

The standard of the hotel was excellent overall: very well-furnished and comfortable. The front desk staff were very helpful and caring. Breakfast was very satisfactory.  I encountered two problems however: I couldn't switch on the air-conditioning and the room got quite hot and stuffy. Also I couldn't switch the TV off!  The only way to do so was by taking the room key from the electrical master switch, but by doing this I then had no light in the room. In general though I enjoyed my stay.

This was the second Mercure hotel on our trip, and overall, the facilities were quite good. **Facilities:** The hotel is well-equipped. The lobby is clean and bright. As expected from an Accor property, the decor style and design elements are largely consistent. What truly stood out was that on each floor's common area, right outside the elevator, there was a row of complimentary bottled water. This is quite rare in other hotels and very convenient for guests to grab. Breakfast is served on the 21st floor, offering a panoramic view and a great sense of openness. On another note, staying on the 14th floor, the water pressure was a bit low, and the shower felt like it didn't have enough flow. **Hygiene:** The room's cleanliness was generally acceptable, but I found a long hair stuck to a tile in the bathroom. It felt like the cleaning wasn't thorough, which was a bit off-putting. Also, there was a small tear on the bed linen. I'm not sure if it was an oversight, but ideally, it should have been replaced. **Service:** The hotel's front desk manager took my feedback very seriously. Afterwards, they even proactively called us to inform us that the issues had been rectified. This was truly excellent.

This was one of the most comfortable stays I've ever had! The front desk staff were incredibly attentive, and the lady who checked me in was so kind and gentle. The room was spotless and tidy, and all the facilities were smart-enabled. The surrounding area has excellent amenities, making dining very convenient. The breakfast at this hotel is absolutely fantastic – a perfect blend of Western and Chinese options. They have wonderful staff, delicious food, and even tiny wontons for the little ones! I'll definitely be staying here again on my next trip.

As the final stop on my northwestern tour, I can't praise this hotel enough. Since it was off-season, they upgraded my room, and it was incredibly spacious, as shown in the pictures. A staff member guided me to my room upon arrival, and I even received some complimentary desserts. The room was spotlessly clean, and the smart home features were excellent. While the breakfast selection wasn't huge, it had all the essentials. The location is fantastic too, within walking distance to the night market, and it's a very short taxi ride to the airport, high-speed rail station, and various attractions. On my checkout day, my flight was repeatedly delayed, and the hotel kindly allowed me to return to my room to rest. I'm very grateful for their hospitality.
