This hotel is really, really good! The location and service are both top-notch! I hesitated a lot because it was a bit pricier than I expected (it was National Day, so there was a premium), but it was truly the best choice I made!
First, the accommodation! It was clean and the view was amazing. I arrived early for check-in and asked if they could give me a room with a good view. They found me the best view room comparable to the one I paid for 😆
Next, the location! Nanjing East Road and People's Square are right in front, which was great for tours (many meeting points are at People's Square) and shopping. Plus, many famous restaurants (hot mala ban on social media, Lu Xuxu butter cakes, crab roe and shrimp dumplings, milk tea, etc.) delivered, and a robot brought the food to my door, allowing me to try a variety of dishes. It saved so much time, it was amazing!

This is our second time staying at this hotel! It’s a fantastic place with very friendly staff. We even had the pleasure of meeting Alena at the front desk, who speaks Russian. She gave us a detailed guide on how to access the 30th-floor Lounge bar, which was a complimentary gift from the hotel. Breakfast was top-notch as always, featuring a great variety of pastries, fruits, salads, porridge, and meats—even the pickiest guests will find something they love. The hotel boasts an excellent location in the heart of Jing'an Temple. It's just a few minutes' walk to Jing'an Temple subway station, offering convenient access to Lines 1, 2, and 7. There are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby at Jiuguang Department Store and Réel Department Store, and Nanjing West Road is also very close. It's ideal for both leisure and business travelers.
The lobby is grand and has the classic feel of an established five-star hotel. The rooms are clean, and the bedding is soft and comfortable. The bathroom features a marble countertop and a separate wet and dry area. The hotel amenities are comprehensive, including a gym and a heated swimming pool. The breakfast buffet in the morning offers a wide variety of delicious options.
A minor drawback: the hotel was built some time ago, so some areas have a more retro decor, and the facilities aren't brand new. However, the front desk service is responsive, and the overall service is excellent.

This is my second time staying at this hotel. I booked an executive twin room with my child. The room was clean, and its location right in the heart of Jing'an Temple makes dining and taking the subway incredibly convenient. I first booked it because of its proximity to Eileen Chang's former residence, Changde Apartment, and I booked it again because of its excellent location and service. My child particularly loves the hot spring pool here. We also ate several meals at CP Jing'an this time, which was very convenient.
However, you need to watch the time when taking a taxi. I noticed during this trip to Shanghai that Jing'an Temple is really congested. Getting to the hotel was a constant jam, and the ride to the airport was also quite slow. The hotel breakfast is excellent! There's a wide variety, and I always eat too much. Check-out time is also very flexible; my flight was at 4 PM, and the front desk staff kindly extended our check-out to 1:30 PM, which was fantastic service. I'll definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Shanghai.From£132

Two nights at The Langham Xintiandi. The hotel's location is its biggest advantage, within walking distance to Nanjing Road and Zhangyuan, and very convenient for exploring Xintiandi (for me, familiar with the area, and the cool autumn weather was perfect for 'city working'). We received welcome fruits upon check-in, a nice touch.
However, the entrance lobby felt a bit cramped, which isn't entirely due to the plot size, giving a less-than-ideal first impression. The interior lounge area, though, is brilliantly designed. Unfortunately, I didn't have time for afternoon tea during this stay, but I'll definitely come back for it next time I need a break.From£180

Decent stay, but several misses for a 5-star property
My stay at the Pullman Shanghai Central was a mixed bag—nice in some areas, but disappointing in others.
Check-in: The staff were very friendly and welcoming on our first day. However, I was surprised that they wouldn't let me check in until 3:00 PM. At most other hotels, I'm usually able to get an early check-in (even if I arrive at noon), so this felt a bit rigid for a property of this level.
The Room: The room itself was comfortable—the bed was soft and the shower pressure was actually perfect (not too strong, not too weak, just right). Unfortunately, the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke upon arrival. To their credit, when I called the front desk, they immediately offered to change my room, which was very professional of them.
Breakfast: This was the biggest letdown. The breakfast buffet felt more like what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel rather than a 5-star Pullman. The quality and selection just weren't there for me.
Overall: It was an okay stay—nothing terrible, but nothing exceptional either. I wouldn't rate it a 10/10, more like a solid 6. Good service from the staff, but the check-in policy, smoke issue, and food really held it back.From£106

The Lobby Lounge, located in the atrium, is surrounded by palm trees and flowing water, evoking a Southeast Asian vibe. While the guest rooms aren't huge, their overall layout is well-planned and facilities are comprehensive. The Stage restaurant offers a bountiful buffet breakfast, with both Chinese and Western options. The omelets are shaped like egg dumplings and taste great, the croissants are quite good, the tofu pudding is delicious, and the latte coffee is also pleasant. We didn't get to try the Chinese restaurant as it was hosting a wedding banquet.

During the National Day holiday, I stayed at the Peace Hotel. Upon arriving at the lobby entrance, I noticed numerous cigarette butts on the ground. This instantly gave a very negative impression. I hope the cigarette butts at the entrance can be cleaned promptly, and that people are discouraged from smoking there, as it affects the hotel's image. The doorman helped us with our luggage and guided us to check-in. The staff member who brought our luggage up to the room smelled of smoke. Being sensitive to this scent, I found it uncomfortable. Overall, the room was satisfactory. However, I found a fuzzy hair, likely a child's, on the baby potty, indicating it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. I mistakenly wore the room's slippers and took the elevator to the first floor. Only after exiting the elevator did I realize my mistake, and had to return to the room to change shoes. To my surprise, the soles weren't dirty at all, still white, with only a small yellowish stain on one. So, the floor cleanliness is acceptable. The evening turndown service attendant was a bit unprofessional; my suitcase was open on the floor, and the attendant directly stepped over it. On the night of check-in, I unexpectedly started my period and was completely unprepared. I contacted the front desk, and they said they didn't provide such items but could have a staff member purchase them for me. I appreciate the staff member who ran this errand for me. The welcome fruit was very fresh, but the children couldn't eat the chocolates. I contacted the front desk, and they kindly swapped them for butterfly cookies, which the children loved. Thank you very much. The bedding was very comfortable, and the children slept soundly. The male manager at Longfeng Restaurant left a very pleasant impression with his excellent service, truly commendable. There were many visitors coming into the lobby downstairs, even during breakfast, with some taking photos. During breakfast, I dropped my fork on the floor and picked it up, placing it on an empty plate. When the server cleared the table, they took the empty plate, but put the dirty fork into another plate that had food on it, touching the food. Instantly, the food became inedible. This was very unprofessional; I hope for improvement, as it was a complete waste of food. There was no inquiry, just direct action. I even mentioned that the fork had fallen on the ground and was dirty, yet it was still placed in a plate with food. It's truly hard to describe. The baby high chairs either lacked seatbelts or had incomplete ones that couldn't be fastened. I hope the hotel can update these baby chairs to provide better service. When the children were climbing the stairs, a staff member spoke rudely, saying things like they might roll down the stairs and that adults should watch their children, with a very unfriendly tone. Upon realizing we were hotel guests, their attitude did a complete 360, immediately becoming apologetic and pleasant. My best impression was of the male manager at Longfeng Restaurant. As soon as we arrived for a meal, a female server immediately pestered me with questions, asking if I had a reservation. I told her I had reserved it yesterday. She then asked who I reserved it with and if it was registered at the front desk. She kept asking aggressively, which made me very uncomfortable. Later, a tall, slender, beautiful server helped us find a table in Longfeng Restaurant. Yesterday, I was told that Longfeng Restaurant was full and only Peace Restaurant had availability. One of the best hotels that we have stayed. Beautiful rooms with the most beautiful views. Wonderful service by all the staff from the front office, to the bellman and even the cleaners are super nice. We were travelling with my disabled brother and they made sure we were comfortable. We were offered an upgrade to the horizon club room for a great price which was definitely worth it as the rooms had nicer views and comes with breakfast (with halal options), afternoon tea and also evening refreshments. They also arranged for our kids birthday in the room! Special thanks to Elaine at the front office for arranging late checkout for us since our flight is late at night, as well as Kenny at the horizon club for attending to us and ensuring we had a smooth check out. The breakfast ingredients are fresh and delicious, just like the high-quality items you'd find at the Sam's Club next door. Location: Excellent. Both taking a taxi and the subway are very convenient. I recommend setting your GPS to Gate 3 of Jin Mao Tower, where hotel bellhops are stationed to assist with luggage; the other gates only have security guards who won't help with bags.
View: Unbeatable! Thanks to our butler, Kiki, for helping us upgrade to a river-view room. We could see the Oriental Pearl Tower, and my mom was thrilled~
Room: Not huge, but doesn't feel dated. High-quality toiletries, Dyson hairdryer, strong water pressure. The minibar is chargeable, but complimentary capsule coffee is provided, and they give you an absurdly generous amount of bottled water.
Lounge and Breakfast: The variety is upper-middle tier for a five-star hotel, but some standout items were exceptional—like the salmon, fresh pork mooncakes, overnight oats, and the bakery selection was quite good. The view from the executive lounge is so stunning that the overall experience was still fantastic~

The FLAIR rooftop bar on the 58th floor has a fantastic ambiance. Traveling Solo in Xinjiang for 12 Days, Navigating the Entire Trip with This SIM Card | Uninterrupted Internet Access Even in Remote Scenic Spots
This trip took me solo from Urumqi to Kanas and Hemu, a total of 12 days. The biggest fear when traveling alone is no internet and getting lost. Before setting off, I bought this China Mainland 5G eSIM (1GB daily plan) from Trip.com. In my testing, it was incredibly stable, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling solo in mainland China, especially to remote areas.
Installation: I suggest installing it before departure, connected to your home Wi-Fi. Scanning the QR code in the order takes only a minute. Once you arrive, simply turn on data roaming. For iPhones, remember to set the SIM card to "Mobile Data" and turn on data roaming. I connected automatically within about ten seconds of landing.
Signal Performance: 5G throughout Urumqi city. Navigation, taxi hailing, translation, and posting on social media were all smooth. The key part was the mountain road to Kanas and Hemu. I was worried about signal loss, but most of the route maintained 4G/5G, Google Maps navigation never dropped, and I could upload photos normally even in Hemu village. Only the section towards the Fish Viewing Platform briefly dropped to no service, but it recovered after a few steps. Overall, it was much better than I expected.
Usage Experience: Google Maps, ChatGPT, WhatsApp, Instagram, Xiaohongshu, Alipay, and Didi all worked directly without needing a VPN. I relied entirely on it for researching travel guides, finding restaurants, and calling taxis. 1GB per day was more than enough for me—navigation and photo uploads during the day, and Wi-Fi connection at my accommodation at night. I didn't even run out of credit in 12 days.
Billing: The 24-hour plan is very cost-effective. I activated it upon arrival at night, and it was still on my first day's credit the next morning, essentially giving me half a day free. For longer trips, the daily plan is more convenient than the total credit plan.
A quick tip: If you can't connect, turn off the VPN and then turn airplane mode back on; this should usually fix it. Also, don't delete the eSIM from your phone; once you do, you can't reinstall it.
Having a stable SIM card when traveling alone is really reassuring. I'll definitely buy one again next time I go to mainland China.
