During weekdays in summer, there were many foreign guests... and quite a few elderly Chinese too. The front desk often had queues for check-in, and there were always people waiting for taxis outside. Business was really good, yet the room offered excellent value for money!

Service: Before checking in, I read many reviews complaining about the check-in staff. I definitely experienced it myself. All the staff avoided eye contact; it was hard to find someone to help with check-in, and everyone seemed busy.
There was a young man near the elevator entrance who suggested not standing there. He would just lower his head and walk away when he saw guests; I don't know what purpose it served to have someone standing there.
The bellhop at the luggage storage was enthusiastic, but I suggest increasing the refrigerated storage space and training staff. They shouldn't advise guests to carry their refrigerated items with them when checking out, especially on such hot days; it's better to leave them in the air-conditioned hotel.
The staff at the entrance who helped with luggage and opened car doors were polite, and their service was appreciated.
Some of the hosts at the breakfast restaurant were very warm and friendly. Others were not, and some were only friendly towards Japanese guests. The chefs at the cooking stations were all excellent, and the food was delicious.
Facilities: Older hotels always have shortcomings in their hardware. As soon as I exited the elevator on the guest floor, I smelled dust, and there was a musty smell in the room. The shower equipment was old and difficult to use, the washbasin was quite low, and the small magnifying mirror for makeup/removing makeup was broken; either you had to hold it up very high to see your face, or it would fall down and still not work. This can't be changed in the short term, so it needs renovation.
During renovations, I suggest not installing mirrors facing the bed again. I slept very poorly at night.
Cleanliness: The cleanliness was much better than I expected. There was no dust in the nooks and crannies, which was a pleasant surprise.
Noise: The room was very close to the elevator, but surprisingly, there was not much noise, which was acceptable. However, there was a regular rumbling sound, which I suspect was the subway passing by; it was very noticeable. The sound disappeared after the subway stopped at night and reappeared in the morning.
Overall, it was not a very pleasant experience, but I've tried it. I won't choose this hotel again.FromCAD 159

The hotel is well-located, right in the middle of the pedestrian street. We stayed in a standard room, but after our flight was canceled due to a typhoon, we extended our stay for another day and were moved to an upgraded room. The room was fantastic, we were probably lucky. It had two rooms: a living room with a sofa and a magnificent view of the pedestrian street. Besides a tea set, there was also a coffee machine. There was also a large, separate bathroom. It's an ideal option for a family with a child. The breakfasts are very good, with options for both children and adults. We booked this eco-friendly hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is very conveniently located: there's a metro station nearby, as well as two shopping centres. The hotel is large, but there was quiet and peaceful.
The view from the window was beautiful, even despite the typhoon that was hitting Shanghai these days (our room was on the 12th floor. We chose the hotel because of its location and good breakfasts. The breakfasts were really very delicious and tasty.
There was both Chinese and European food. A wide selection of fruits: watermelons, melons, apricots, mangoes, bananas, dragon fruit. There were many different pastries, several types of yogurts, even matcha yogurt.
Also, at the exit from the restaurant, there was a Candy Bar with chewy marmalade: you can put the marmalade in a small bag.
The room had everything, including a capsule coffee machine, an ironing board, and an iron, which is very convenient. l'd especially like to mention the eco-friendly slippers, which really stand out from the slippers in other hotels: they're very comfortable. Traveling with my child for the weekend, I booked the Marriott Hotel in advance through Ctrip. The hotel's location is superb, just a few minutes' walk from Nanjing Road. am writing to file a formal complaint about my stay at the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai. The experience was absolutely unacceptable:
· The plumbing was a disaster — the toilet wouldn't flush properly.
· The water temperature in the shower was completely unadjustable. I spent 15 minutes twisting the tap all the way to cold, but the water never changed temperature — it stayed scalding hot the entire time.
· No basic sofa or settee in the room — nowhere to sit or lie down except the bed. And this wasn't a standard room — this was a suite.
· The appliances and furniture look at least 20 years old, with visible signs of wear and tear everywhere.
· I left my phone to charge overnight — I specifically checked that the charger was working before going to bed. Woke up in the morning to find my phone hadn't charged at all. The power outlets work intermittently at best.
· The Wi-Fi was terrible — slow and with extremely low data throughput. It kept buffering and disconnecting, making it impossible to get any work done or even browse normally.
· No razor provided in the bathroom.
· The hairdryer had no attachments — not a single nozzle or diffuser. And to make things even worse, there wasn't a single power outlet in the bathroom. So in a 5-star hotel, I had to dry my hair next to the bed, with no mirror nearby. Absolutely ridiculous.
· The breakfast was very mediocre — just a plain omelet with bacon, and they still managed to ruin it.
To top it all off, I decided to order room service. The delivery driver dropped off my food at the reception desk at 10:20 PM and sent me a photo as proof. Do you know how long I had to wait for someone to bring it up to my room? 40 minutes. I went down to the front desk twice to ask about my order, and no one even apologized. We're in the 21st century — most hotels have delivery robots that bring food to your door in 5 minutes. Here, I paid three or four times as much and received this level of service. It's simply insulting.
I have already canceled my second night and am checking out early. For this kind of money and with this kind of service, this stay was a complete disgrace. I expect a substantial refund for the night I actually spent here.FromCAD 426

The hotel's location is excellent, and cleanliness wasn't an issue.
However, the facilities had some significant drawbacks. The bathroom door was very problematic; the toilet and shower shared the same glass door, which was extremely difficult to slide and very inconvenient (as shown in the picture). There were too few power outlets, making charging devices a hassle. The light switches weren't clearly marked, and the night light shone directly into your eyes.
Regarding service, the younger male front desk staff member was rude and unprofessional. When I checked in, I wasn't the only guest, and he was impatient and impolite with everyone, not using any basic pleasantries. He also didn't inform me about any of the hotel's facilities; I had to find the laundry room myself later. At one point, a hotel call came in to the female staff member opposite him. She wasn't sure about the situation, hung up, and then asked the male staff member, who directly mocked the guest who had called for inquiries – that was completely out of line. He also made a point of pretending to be busy with other things (even though guests could see his screen and he clearly wasn't busy) before grudgingly responding to guest requests.
Although the hotel's physical amenities aren't a major issue, I will not be staying here again due to the service attitude. Being next to a university, I'm sure they won't miss one guest.FromCAD 115

The hotel service was excellent. When I arrived at Xinchang subway station, they thoughtfully arranged a car to pick me up, which was a pleasant surprise for my family! The hotel's overall hardware and environment also really impressed me; the library and reading area on the first floor showcases the hotel's refined taste. The room was also very large and clean, with a green view outside the window, which greatly enhanced our vacation experience. Later, something happened that really touched me: my family accidentally lost our room key, and two front desk staff members promptly helped us resolve the issue. I'm especially grateful for that. Choosing this hotel for a short weekend getaway was truly a stroke of luck. Many people going to Disneyland also stay here, as they provide shuttle services in the morning and evening. Very warm and efficient service at check-in despite the busy crowd. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the main shopping streets, and the room size is decent for the price.

My stay at the Peace Hotel this time was arguably the best hotel experience ever! It truly lives up to its reputation as a benchmark for hotels in Shanghai, and even nationwide.
**Service:** The front desk upgraded me to a city view room, from which I could see the Bund by looking left out the window. Noticing that my companion had a birthday that day, they specially sent a homemade cake. The service attitude and attentiveness of all the hotel staff were absolutely top-notch.
**Cleanliness:** You can tell the meticulous effort put into maintaining and cleaning the rooms just by the tidiness of the carpet. It looked like it had just been laid, and even the corners were spotless.
**Ambiance:** The historical legacy of the Peace Hotel and its irreplaceable location are truly unique. The European vintage decor gives the rooms an understated luxury and 'old money' feel. It's an experience that can be rated as a must-stay once in a lifetime when visiting Shanghai.

I wasn't going to leave a review, but since the guest services team messaged me asking for one, I'll comment on a few things:
1. **View**: As one of Pudong's iconic buildings, the hotel offers excellent views. Being on a high floor, you get great panoramic views of the Bund and other Pudong buildings, especially at night – truly impressive.
2. **Service**: The concierge staff's attitude was generally quite lukewarm with every inquiry. I'm not sure why they seemed so arrogant. From storing luggage initially to borrowing an umbrella, it felt like I owed them something. Perhaps they were overwhelmed by too many guests, but it felt like customers were a constant bother and unwelcome.
The front desk staff's service was similar; their attitude felt below the average standard of other high-end hotels we've stayed at.
3. **Cleanliness**: Upon entering the room, the floor wasn't very clean. I'm unsure if it had been properly cleaned.
4. **Hardware**: The overall hardware conditions were good. The elevators were fast, and both hotel and room facilities were comprehensive.
5. **Responsiveness to requests during stay**:
* First, we asked for two children's bathrobes. We were told to wait a while for staff to bring them. Twenty minutes passed with no update. When we called again, they said they currently had no spare bathrobes but had forgotten to inform us, leaving us to wait a long time for nothing.
* Second, we requested an extra blanket, which was delivered promptly.
6. **Dining**: The buffet on the 56th floor had a relatively rich selection of dishes. However, the service staff (both those at the food stations and those clearing tables) again had generally mediocre attitudes.
7. **Swimming Pool**: The pool isn't large, and the water was a bit cool. There weren't many tourists, so the experience was decent. The changing room's hardware was good, though it felt a bit cold.
8. **Gym**: While not very spacious, the equipment was quite comprehensive. Most of the treadmill screens displayed 'no signal.'
9. **Highlight**: The 86th-floor Jin Mao Club Chinese restaurant was excellent. The food was great; I particularly recommend the Australian crispy veal. What's more, the service staff there had an outstanding attitude. We arrived quite late, around 9 PM, due to closure at 9:15 PM. The waitress quickly offered menu suggestions and waited until we finished our meal, providing very thoughtful service. She even suggested we could turn off the lights to enjoy the night view afterward. It's a shame I don't know her name (the waitress on duty on the evening of August 9th), but I want to commend her; she was the only highlight of our entire stay.
10. **Final thoughts**: It's a bit ironic that the hotel's guest services team added me on WeChat the day before check-in, didn't send any greetings during our stay, but then suddenly messaged me before check-out, offering to draft a positive review for me to post here. So, since you asked for a review, either we don't comment, or we comment truthfully. Stepping into the room, I was immediately greeted by the towering 'Huangpu River Four-Piece Set' (referring to the iconic skyscrapers) outside the window. Sitting on the sofa, the Huangpu River unfolded before me like a dynamic scroll painting.
The bedding was incredibly soft and delicate; I instinctively wrapped myself tightly in the duvet. The Aesop pine-scented amenities were elegant and long-lasting, perfectly matching the Waldorf's style. The walk-in closet was well-designed and practical.
I had bought some 'Ice Beauty,' 'Goddess,' 'Pink Iron Cannon,' and 'Orange Dream' flowers, and was using the room's trash can as a makeshift vase. The thoughtful Nini noticed and kindly replaced it with a beautiful glass vase. 👍

The hotel's location is excellent, close to Shanghai Railway Station in the city center, making it very convenient for getting around.
This InterContinental is the one I've stayed at most often in Shanghai, but this time was also the least comfortable experience.
The XX21 room assigned to me this time was a type I'd never stayed in before. It was very spacious, neat, and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The only hardware issue was that the round decorative painting behind the desk made a deafening noise in the middle of the night (see video). This didn't happen on the first night, but on the second night, it lasted for about half an hour starting past midnight. I initially thought it was the air conditioning, but even after turning it off, the noise continued. The baffling part was that it only occurred in the dead of night, never during the day…
Furthermore, I had terrible neighbors during this stay. On the first afternoon after checking in, I heard thumping noises outside my door, appearing at intervals. Looking through the peephole, I saw that it was the child next door, and the noise was made when the door wasn't fully closed but slammed against something. After some investigation, I figured out it was likely the deadbolt's 'tongue' being extended and hitting the door frame when the door closed (as shown in the last picture). While this noise might be tolerable during the day, it started around midnight on both nights of my stay and continued for over an hour, consistently happening at that specific time.
Guest behavior is something the hotel can't control; it's a matter of individual etiquette…
I can only say I was unlucky this time, as I've always stayed on the executive floor at this hotel, but this time I wasn't assigned an executive floor room.FromCAD 154
