Kalappura Homestay

A great stay, Jose and his family are very friendly and really looked after me. Jose even fixed his bike up so I could go cycling one morning and cooked me spicy food when everyone else wanted no spice. He can organise very good value backwater trips and dropped me at the ferry at 5.15am to go on a sunrise kayak trip! I was in a small room (with air conditioning and a fan) which opens onto the garden area, perfect for one person. The home cooked food was very tasty and it was also handy being able to get bottled water (or a beer!) from the common area upstairs. Thanks for everything!

Jose was an amazing host, so interesting and helpful and made me feel very at home. He went above and beyond to get me to my train when my tuk tuk didnt show up. The common spaces for guests are great and the offering of an evening meal was a lovely way to meet the other guests and so delicious!! I also did a sunrise backwaters tour that Jose organised which was pretty magical!

I really enjoyed my stay here. Jose and the staff were so lovely and really reliable. The room was clean and comfortable with fan and A/C. It had all essential private bathroom facilities including hot water. My room looked out on to their back garden which was very pretty. The home is surrounded by lovely plants, flowers and trees and it’s in a quiet area only a 10 minute walk into town. The breakfast was really good and I got to sample their delicious Keralan food for dinner on their terrace each night. Jose went out of his way to give all the information I needed and booked some great boat trips at a really good price which were fantastic! Both houseboat and small boat. Jose really thinks about each individual to ensure the best experience. The small boat trip was amazing seeing the life of the locals living on the backwaters and watching the wildlife. Amazing sunrise and sunset! Great home, great staff, great food, wonderful experience. Thank you Jose and family and all the staff for a magical stay.

I cannot rate this place highly enough. Jose is the most welcoming, friendly and helpful host who assists with all your needs. The staff are also warm and friendly. My room was very spacious (I had an A/C room), and very clean and comfortable with a clean bathroom and hot water. You also have use of a communal fridge and small kitchen with a kettle. I ate here for B/F and dinner most days and the food was delicious. I loved the communal terrace where I was able to eat and chat with other travellers. Jose organized two boat tours for me which I would also recommend. The location is also good, down a quiet street - just a 10 min walk to the bus station or centre of town.

We had a great stay here, the family are very kind and welcoming and the breakfast is good. It feels like a real home stay. Jose is a great host and always available to help you out and can’t do enough to make your stay in allepey pleasant. They do charge quite a lot for laundry however and the rooms could do with a little maintenance (broken sockets and mould on the walls).

Jose’s homestay is a peaceful and welcoming property in the quiet backstreets of Alleppey, Jose and the staff who work there are all incredibly helpful and make you feel at home. The room was top notch, spacious, comfortable and clean ! We also went on a half day backwater boat cruise organised by the host, this was a surreal experience, including a delicious breakfast and lunch . Highly recommend kalappura homestay to anyone visiting Alleppey 🙏

My stay here has been excellent the owners go above and beyond to help with all your enquiries my room was cool and comfortable Many thanks highly recommend staying here 👍 Also you can book trips on the houseboats which are so relaxing if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town The beach is very clean and there’s a superb restaurant on the beach which serves all kinds of snacks and Indian cuisine !

The staff was very friendly and the food was so amazing 😋 it was a great, relaxing and romantic experience. The boat was really nice and clean. We also loved taking the complementary canoo ride through the smaller canals.

THE FOOOOOOOOOD. Holy crap best food we had in all India and usually I prefer North Indian cuisine but this was some Michelin level stuff! We dared to pick the meats and fish, as westerners we are always sceptic but all were extremely fresh. We did a nice sightseeing of some different locations, the staff was very kind and happy to point out nice facts and details about the surroundings. In the evening/night we had a massive thunder storm but everything was very much dry and chill on board (which is not always the case on houseboats), this one at least seemed well maintained. 1h canoo ride was included which was very nice in discovering a small canal not possible with the big boats.
