Parnell Pines Hotel

Parnell|0.76km from Wintergarden Road
We always do a bit of research before we book a place but we clearly didn’t do enough when we booked to stay at the Parnell pines. The staff at check in were friendly but seemed to have lost our reservation and when it was found there was no mention of the parking I had booked (which I have emails discussing). The reception, hallways and stairs areas were all extremely run down and gave off a hostel vibe. The room was a studio room down stairs from reception. The room was small and very basic. The door to our room had a piece of cardboard holding the lock into the wall which didn’t do the job as our door didn’t even close all the way. There is a chain lock for while you are in the room but we were really worried about going out as we didn’t want to leave our luggage in an unlocked room. There is no aircon only a fan in the cupboard to blow hot air around. The walls are paper thin so you can hear the other guests as well. We returned after an evening out at about 11pm and found the front door to the accommodation open (was suppose to be on a key card access only). Walking downstairs to our room a random person was walking up and down the hallway with a Jim beam mixer and asking if we wanted to party?! No! We went to bed and just couldn’t sleep. We felt extremely unsafe. We decided to leave quite early and waited for reception to open at 8am, by 8.15 still no one there so we just left. The cafe that was suppose to be attached looked long closed, so no option to sort breakfast. Theonly good thing about the accommodation was the location right in Parnell. Other than that we were extremely disappointed, frankly and won’t be returning.

Equivalent to the University of Auckland student dormitory, because the school itself is in the city center, there is no traditional campus, nearby apartments are used as student dormitories or rented to foreign workers. In the dead end, there is a steep road, and a nearby Okay Takeway is more cost-effective. It is about 15 minutes walk to Queen Street, which is a cost-effective choice. Don't stay as a hotel, just as short-term rent, there is no service at all, be careful when choosing a room type, do not choose to share a unit with others. If I come to Auckland again, I think I will still choose.
City Garden Lodge

Location is in the city of Parnell, more than half an hour's walk from the CBD. This is the palace of the Queen of Tonga. It is a relatively simple holiday home, 3 floors, wooden structure, high lift, kitchen to cook by yourself, shared bathroom - good hot water, washing machine, garden. There is a supermarket nearby. If you want to cook for yourself, you can go back and buy ingredients. There is also a very lively street nearby, with some cafes, restaurants and small shops. Less than five minutes walk, you can go to the Holy Trinity Church and St. Mary's Church. Overall is good. The service is basically invisible, the store is small, and no service personnel can be seen. Upon arrival, the room was ready and clean. Other self-help is just fine. There is a small heating in the house, very intimate.

Where to begin? I agree pretty much with every other 1 star rating. I was staying on the 19th floor (with one lift btw, which never works properly). During heavy rain, rain pours in from the ceiling into the landings. Often it smells like crap is seeping out the pipes. Often I would say hello to the front-desk, only to be met with vacant looks and sneers. I'd ask for change for the laundry and instead of handing it to me, they'd chuck it on the counter without so much as a thank you. I'd have mail go missing, and when it arrived, looked like it had been tampered with (with sello-tape re-sealing it). The internet is rubbish, and expensive. Often I've heard the front-desk using excessively bad language to people they talk to on the phone, or in person. It's like Fawlty towers on steroids.

Overall, the kitchen is very well equipped, the bathroom has a lot of sanitation, the bedroom has all the functions, and the sheets and pillowcases are too hygienic. It seems that the cleaning is not in place or is it replaced every time the residents use it. Point unacceptable
Quest Newmarket Serviced Apartments

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Quest. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the staff very welcoming. We stayed in a 1br apartment with accessible shower. The bed was comfortable and kitchen very functional. Restaurants are just across the road as are the shops. We found the restaurants welcoming and very obliging, offering free delivery to the room which we enjoyed. Would definitely stay there again.
