Our stay at Andy and Penny's charming bed and breakfast at The Old Rectory in Chichester for the Goodwood Revival last weekend was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly fortunate to have found such warm, welcoming and accommodating hosts. Upon our arrival, Andy and Penny graciously assisted us with our luggage and extended a warm welcome that set the tone for our entire stay. The house itself, a grade 1 listed gem, was a sight to behold, adorned with numerous beautiful features such as the hexagonal wooden stair post and the wonderful doors to our bedrooms that exuded character and history. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nothing short of immaculate, ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. Our primary reason for visiting was the Goodwood Revival, and the Old Rectory’s location couldn't have been more ideal. A mere 15-minute drive transported us to the event's doorstep, making our daily commute on all three days a breeze. The accommodation itself comprised two delightful bedrooms. The first, a large, spacious double room, boasted an ensuite bathroom complete with a stunning walk-in shower, with beautiful tiles. The second, only slightly smaller in size, offered twin beds and a separate pretty bathroom adjacent. Our visit coincided with a heatwave on the hottest day of 2023, and Penny's thoughtful provision of fans in each room ensured our nights were cool and restful. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the thoughtful touches, including fresh water, a selection of teas, coffees, and delectable KitKats, added to the overall experience. However, the true highlight of our stay undoubtedly was the breakfasts Penny and Andy served. Each evening, they took the time to discuss our preferences, ensuring that our morning meal would be nothing short of perfection. The breakfast began with a refreshing fruit bowl featuring a delightful assortment of strawberries, nectarines, grapes, raspberries, blueberries, and bananas. Complemented by options of orange or grapefruit juice, as well as plentiful supply of coffee or tea, (and it was great coffee) set the tone for a memorable meal. There was granola and other choices if wanted. Penny makes her own bread, jams and marmalade and these were a delicious addition. The raspberry jam was my absolute favourite. The pièce de résistance was the selection of main breakfast options. We sampled them all and were thoroughly impressed by the delicious and hearty offerings. From my delightful smashed avocado on Penny's homemade sourdough toast with bacon and eggs to my husband's classic full English breakfast, my parents-in-law were thrilled with their scrambled eggs on muffins with smoked salmon. They were all a scrumptious delight. Andy, with his discreet attention to detail, ensured a constant flow of tea and coffee tops ups…our cups were never empty. It was the little touches that made our stay with Penny and Andy akin to a home away from home and because
