Argyll Western Hotel

Glasgow|0.61km from Paulin Watches
We checked into this hotel expecting the room to look like the photos advertised on their website. In reality, it did not. We were booked into Room 12 which is in the basement of the hotel. The room had a damp and musty smell. The bathroom door hit the edge of one of the beds when you opened and closed it. One of the teacups had tea stains in it. The window in the bathroom did not have a curtain and although there it was frosted, you could see the hotel workers sitting across the way when they were having their break. If you were taking a shower, they could probably see into the bathroom. There was mold in the bathroom shower stall. The worst thing in this room was the large emergency LED trouble light which was about 24 inches long and so bright it lit the room up like a neon sign when you were trying to sleep. To the hotel's credit, I talked to the owner and the maintenance person about how dissatisfied we were with the accommodation and the next morning we were switched to Room 103 on the main floor. They apologized for the inconvenience and the condition of Room 12. The room was much more spacious and the bathroom double the size. There was a large window in the room that opened on one side and the other side could be opened too but the handle to crank the window had broken and fallen onto the ground outside. The room looked out towards a lane and a row of garbage cans. There was still some mold in this shower stall but it was nowhere as bad as Room 12 in the basement. This hotel was booked fully the whole time we were there. I think the biggest draw for this hotel is the proximity to the Byres Road which is near the Botanic Gardens. It is located in the West End, which is lined with boutique shops, bakeries, pubs, and eateries. For the price we paid, it was definitely not worth it. I am shocked that it has had rave reviews but I guess the location trumps everything else. If you book this hotel, call them and try to avoid any rooms in the basement if you can. Also, this hotel does not have an elevator and if you have mobility issues, the stairs are quite steep.

Acorn Hotel

Glasgow|0.82km from Paulin Watches
We were lucky to spend two nights at the Acorn as part of a family weekend away in Glasgow, and truly can’t recommend it highly enough! The hotel was wonderfully pleasant and welcoming, located in a lovely leafy area of the West End that was perfect for exploring the Kelvingrove Museum, University of Glasgow and Botanic Gardens, as well as the many excellent bars and eateries of the Finnieston district. (We particularly enjoyed The Finnieston for its seafood and Ox and Finch for its small plates.) Glasgow Central Station and George Square were also under 30 minutes away on foot, and regular bus links were available into the city centre from close to the hotel on Sauciehall Street. After a busy day exploring the city, our rooms were an ideal place to relax with their comfy beds, tasteful decor and thoughtful little touches like a teapot and biscuits, tissues and even GHD straighteners. The single room was just as comfortable and cosy as the doubles, and a great option for solo/uncoupled travellers who can sometimes be forgotten about. We would like to say a special thank you to the hotel manager, Alan, who made our stay a pleasure from start to finish with his warm personality, helpful recommendations and map directions, top-notch breakfast and flexibility with checking in early and leaving our bags after we checked out in the morning. We are also grateful to him for introducing us to potato scones as part of his delicious Scottish breakfast, and we are all avid converts! Our only regret is that we only stayed for two nights, and we very much hope to return soon to discover the other riches Glasgow has to offer and to return to this lovely hotel.

My wife and I planned a night out in Glasgow for our friends 40th birthday and booked this hotel for the night. I must say this hotel wasn't what I was expecting the front of house staff were really friendly and professional however that manager needs to learn she is in her position because of the customers and she should learn to speak to the customer in a more professional manner. In the space of 10 minutes while we were checking in we both saw her being disrespectful to 4 different customers. THE BAR and RESTAURANT The choice of drinks were ok however there was no draft beer available. They also had cocktails in the fridge however the barman refused to sell any to us due to the management not allowing him to do so. We paid for morning breakfast and they had a choice of continental or hot breakfast. The breakfast was the best part of the stay. THE ROOM The room was very simple. It had a small TV with standard free channels. The issue I had with the room was the staff only put 1 towel in the bathroom. If there are 2 people staying it should be policy that you get 2 towels. I cannot recommend this hotel until these issues are fixed and I will not be returning.

The room is very big, there is a record player, coffee machine, so much love Hygienic: conditions are very good Environment: Near the University of Glasgow, next to the Botanic Garden, natural oxygen bar Service: Very good, warm and thoughtful. Breakfast is English bread, milk, coffee, etc. Although it is monotonous, it is really delicious.

The location of the hotel is a quiet area, not far from the city center, and it is convenient to go to the pedestrian street. The service staff is more enthusiastic, the breakfast is more abundant, and the variety is more complete. The bathroom sink hot and cold water faucet is separate and not very used. The overall experience is better.

Devoncove Hotel Glasgow City

We stayed at the Devencove as it was within walking distance to the Hydro. The hotel was OK for a 3 star and our room was clean and functional. We went to the restaurant in the hotel and ordered our meal..we initially asked for a starter of mutton, but was told this wasn't available. My husband requested a further pint of Menrbrea but he was told that that this had run out as well. I ordered fish snd chips which looked good but after tasting a bit I cut through the fish and it was uncooked and totally disgusting. When I pointed this out to the waitress she apologised and said that she would pass this on to the kitchen...no replacement meal or refund was offered. For two days I suffered with a stomach upset after eating some of the fish. Within a couple of days afterwards we were asked for feedback on our stay by the Devencove and we relayed what had happened regarding the meal..to date we have had no reply from them. Further to this, when we returned from the concert to the hotel the bar was closed..this was about 11pm but there were a fair few dodgy characters hanging about the reception area and a couple of girls were vomiting in the disabled toilet with the door open!!! This hotel is OK for a cheap overnight stay but definitely not for any longer!!!
