Monterey Tides

Where to start! We arrived and we were told we couldn’t check in as the hotel had been fully booked the previous night and the rooms still were not ready. So we waited, then at the time we were told to return, the power to the hotel went down. So the lobby was rather full of people waiting to get to their rooms. Drinks vouchers were issued for the bar. When we eventually got to the reception to check in, hours later! We were told the car parking fee would be waived for our stay of two nights. There were four of us in one car and we had booked two rooms. So we were happy with that. The rooms are small, looking tired and not particularly special in any way, motel rather than hotel. After two nights, we checked out, both rooms had been charged for the car parking, despite only having one car, we were told it would be credited, still waiting! We also forgot to pack a jacket that was in the wardrobe. We were advised by the hotel they use a company to reunite owners with items they have left. This service is costing us $189 to have this jacket sent back to Europe, a complete rip off and does nothing to enhance the customer service at the Tides. When we checked out, we were amazed at the total, apart from not crediting the two lots of car parking, the room per night including taxes was so overpriced for what you actually got. The location is wonderful, no doubt about that, but the hotel, there are better locally that are not worn out, tired and to be honest need a fair amount spent on it to warrant the ridiculous amount they charged. This was the worst experience we had on our month long road trip.
Hilton Garden Inn Monterey

Very cost-effective and suitable for families traveling by car. It only takes 5 minutes to drive to the pier. Stayed for two nights and would choose to stay here again if given the chance.
Monterey Marriott
4.5/5125 Reviews
Very comfortable hotel conveniently located in downtown Monterey and short distance from 17 Mile Drive. Rooms are spacious and staff is very friendly. Room amenities are: individual sized coffee pot and mini fridge as well as standard hair dryer, toiletries and iron. Microwaves can be delivered to your room by request at no additional cost. The Marriott has a bar and serves breakfast (not included in room rate) and other meals. It is connected to the Monterey Convention Center so if you are attending a conference, this is the best place to be. If you need parking, be aware, only valet parking is available at $40 per day with in and out privileges. There are a couple parking garages with hourly rates within a couple block walk, they do not have in and out privileges. Valet service takes about 10-15 minutes to get your car depending on time of day. Mornings were a little longer wait. Wifi is not free unless you are a Bonvoy Member, you can sign up on the spot. Would stay here again.

This place is the worse hotel very!! And I mean ever!! The place was filthy, filthy the room was never clean. There was layers of dust , fecal matter on the side of toilet. Crumbs, dust on floor. It look like it has been sitting there for years without cleaning. The furniture filthy, I MEAN FILTHY!! The worse part l. I was charged 157. 62 cents and had to leave the hotel due to its severity of unhealthy conditions. As we walk in my eyes started itching. The smell worse then an actic smell. My son's asthma started acting up. The staff front desk was very nice I explain my reason of why we were living. The worse part was. Dirty mask left on the floor in a corner and tissue with who knows what. And also the worse part. I had try and try and try getting in touch with the owner for my FULL REFUND!!! he has not answered my emails. I was told by the front desk the owner would call me. Never call me. It has been 3 days. This is unacceptable. To charge someone for something you know was not clean. And keeping the money and not responding to any of my emails. I call the hotel and was told he would call me back. Well it hasn't happened. I am very angry and disappointed. Someone needs to investigate this property. I can't believe people actually stay in this hotel. Unbelievable dirty!! All over inside and out. It doesn't even deserve 1 start.

Great place! We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We used their self parking garage, which was very convenient and allowed in and out privileges so we could drive to neighboring Pacific Grove. The rooms were very clean and the hotel was very well maintained. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.
Red Lion Hotel Monterey

Overall nice, the beds are soft and the rooms are large. There are gas stations and supermarkets nearby. The only disadvantage is that the room is on the side of the road. A car passing at night will affect it. One night of self-driving highway transition is recommended
