Mountain View Hotels in Kunming

We stayed at Kunming PAPMAN Hotel Wanda for our first night in Kunming, and honestly, it was by far the best hotel of our entire stay. We only stayed for one night and didn’t have a chance to explore the surrounding area, but the hotel itself was exceptional. The hotel occupies two floors within a larger building, so there isn’t direct access to the hotel lobby from the ground floor. However, the hotel contacted us in advance with clear instructions on where to meet them at the car park. The staff came down to meet us, helped with all our luggage and brought us up to the lobby. This could have been an inconvenience, but the level of service completely made up for it. The staff were incredibly attentive, warm and genuinely went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. The hotel itself is beautifully designed. Every corner was thoughtfully decorated and incredibly photogenic, and the overall aesthetic was stylish without compromising on comfort. Even our room was beautifully designed, comfortable and very well equipped, with lots of thoughtful amenities included. The views from the hotel were also lovely. Unfortunately, it was raining during our stay, so we didn’t get to properly enjoy or photograph the rooftop pool, which was a little disappointing — but it gives us another reason to come back! One of our favourite additions was the photoshoot. The hotel was incredibly accommodating and allowed us to arrange a much earlier photoshoot slot because we were short on time. The experience was so good that we ended up purchasing additional photos beyond the three included with our room. It was such a fun and memorable experience. Our room rate also included afternoon tea, although we arrived at night and unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to try it. However, supper was included and was honestly one of the highlights. It was a combination of semi-buffet and made-to-order dishes, with a surprisingly good variety. Everything we tried was delicious, and there was more than enough food. It was such a nice and unexpected inclusion, especially after travelling all day. We were also celebrating our child’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel had thoughtfully prepared a birthday cake and a little present for him in advance. It was such a sweet and thoughtful touch, and really made us feel welcomed and looked after❤️ Overall, we were genuinely impressed by this hotel. From the beautiful design and comfortable rooms to the incredible service, thoughtful inclusions, photoshoot and birthday surprise, everything felt very well thought out. The service in particular really stood out — the staff were attentive, friendly and incredibly helpful throughout our short stay. We only stayed one night and didn’t leave the hotel during our stay, so unfortunately we can’t comment much on the surrounding area or its convenience for exploring Kunming. But based purely on our experience at the hotel, we would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

An absolutely delightful stay! The hotel boasts an elegant environment, right next to Yu Garden, offering a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle – a perfect location for those who love a relaxing getaway. The service was exceptionally warm and refined. Whether it was the front desk, the restaurant, or room service, everything was impeccable, making us feel right at home and utterly comfortable. The breakfast spread was incredibly rich, featuring local specialties, and the dishes offered a different selection each day. I must also mention that getting around is super convenient. Taxis are readily available and quick, and it's easy to walk out for meals. Initially, I booked for two days, but I loved it so much that I promptly extended my stay for another four days. The pleasant surprise was that the hotel generously upgraded my room!

This trip was a last-minute decision. I booked the hotel after 1 AM and was pleasantly surprised after landing and checking in. As someone who pays close attention to hotel details, especially since Kunming is always just a layover during my trips to Yunnan, I have to say Papman is truly amazing. First, the service: I received a fresh flower basket upon check-in, and the hotel butler was incredibly attentive, responding promptly to all my requests. They even sent a freshly made cake for our wedding anniversary, which was delicious and high-quality. Second, the room amenities: The vanity had a full box of soft facial tissues, makeup remover wipes, mouthwash, and laundry detergent. There was a Dyson hairdryer, and the shower had a dry/wet separation with push-button controls. Third, the hotel's decor: Every step revealed a beautiful view, and there were multiple tea rooms available for guests to use for free. The rooftop on the third floor offered spectacular photo opportunities. Walking around the hotel at night, I was delighted to see the shadow of a deer cast by the镂空灯 (镂空灯 - 'cut-out' or 'pierced' lamps). Fourth, the food: We received complimentary afternoon tea with tasty desserts, and the late-night snack selection was extensive, including rice noodles, fried potatoes, 'bao jiang' tofu, and grilled skewers. The salted peanuts, especially the Yunnan 'xiaohua' black peanuts, were excellent; I immediately asked if I could buy a can to take home. All in all, I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit to Kunming!

This Atour hotel seems to be a renovated property, as some of the furniture looks a bit dated. However, I always choose Atour for their incredibly comfortable mattresses and pillows, and this stay was no exception! The location is excellent, very close to Cuihu Park with plenty of dining options nearby, making it super convenient. We had a family room, and the kids slept soundly on the big bed. There are also local breakfast spots in the surrounding alleyways, which gives you a real taste of the local life. Late check-out until 2 PM was also a nice bonus.

I arrived at Changshui International Airport late at 2:15 a.m. I called the hotel’s customer service to request an airport pickup. They responded quickly, and the driver arrived about 10 minutes after the booking was confirmed. The room was spacious, but it had a slight smell because it was a smoking room, even though I had requested a non-smoking room during booking. The next morning, I had breakfast, which was good, and we departed from the hotel to the airport at 8:00 am sharp. Overall it was a good stay, staffs are friendly and helpful.

I stayed for three nights, and overall, my experience was very satisfying. This hotel left the deepest impression on me during my trip to Yunnan. The private courtyard and hot spring gave it a real resort feel, and the quiet environment was perfect for relaxation. The breakfast quality was excellent; in addition to the usual offerings, there were freshly cooked items like pan-fried steak and fresh shrimp, which I looked forward to every morning. The service was an even bigger bonus. Our butler drove us to the mountaintop restaurant for breakfast, and any requests we had during our stay were promptly met. The whole process felt very comfortable—not overly intrusive, but help was always available immediately when needed. When we checked out, they even thoughtfully gave us some tea as a souvenir, which was a lovely touch. If you're looking for a hotel genuinely suited for a vacation and unwinding, I think it's definitely worth experiencing. I'll certainly come back if I have the chance.

Hands down the best choice for my trip! From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew I'd made the right decision. It was spotless, and the service was warm, attentive, and incredibly friendly. The room itself was a pleasant surprise too – spacious and bright, with smart controls that made everything super convenient. Everything was perfectly clean, the decor was fantastic, and the soundproofing was excellent. I had a really comfortable stay. Highly recommend!

We are Americans from Hong Kong and traveled to Kunming for our Easter holiday. The positives of this hotel: 1. it was beautiful. The design and furnishings were very well done and the room itself was exceptionally clean. 2. The owners were so kind. We arrived way after the tea time hour, but they still provided our family with cappuccinos and fresh fruit, free of charge. Both were delicious and our children were so excited about the gourmet coffee art. 3. The mattress in the main bed area was very comfortable. Not a typical “hard” mattress like many hotels in China. Another bonus: it was actually a KING size, which we rarely see outside the US! 4. The breakfast was Chinese style and the rice noodles were delicious! The hotel also had a beautiful courtyard area to eat outside. A few items to be aware of: 1. although the hotel was in a neighborhood near the lake, the neighborhood itself was a bit strange. We could tell it was meant to be a beautiful, well-to-do neighborhood of modern villas, but more than half the neighborhood was unused and/or under construction so it wasn’t as lively feeling in the evening because it was so dark and desolate seeming. It was beautiful in the daylight though! 2. This is not a big hotel chain, just an independent boutique style hotel operating in one of these villas. 3. There are no optimal eating spots near the hotel. You have to take a 20-30 minute Didi (taxi) ride to the nearest area with a lot of restaurants. However, if you like street food, there is a street food carnival area about 10 minutes away via walking (walk north along boardwalk bordering the lake.) Overall, because of the kindness of the owners, the cleanliness and modernity, delicious breakfast, and comfortable mattress, we would definitely choose this hotel again for a one-night stopover.

The room is pretty decent and big. There's just a bit of noise as the room I got is next to a room being renovated, but it is only during the daytime. The best thing for me aside from the beautiful view, big room, and big bed is the smart toilet (I specifically check for places with bidet for my stays, and this place got a high-tech one). The hotel and cold water are also great. I appreciate that the toilet, sink, and shower are separate. The staff are all kind and helpful. I got an issue with my DiDi account and need to book one for my scheduled tour, and the staff on duty gladly helped me book one paying for it and said I could just settle the payment later, and even escorted me to the DiDi and let the driver know I don't speak the language and to get me safely to the location. The other staff also helped me with my WeChat, which helped a lot during my whole stay in China. The only con that I can say (if you are specific with location) is that it is not that close with the usual tourist spots like the Kunming Old Street, but it is close to the South Railway station (Kunmingnan). This is not a big con for me as I actually enjoyed the nearby malls and alleys. This is one of the good stuff here as well. It is on top of a mall, and just across the place is also a place to go shopping (for clothes, food, restaurants). There's a big supermarket/department store in the next door mall too. It also gets lively at night. Overall, personally, I find this a great place to stay in Kunming.

We stayed at Bai Nian Sheng Shi Hotel (Kunming Changshui International Airport) before our departure, and it was a good choice for a short stay. The hotel is located only about 10 minutes from Kunming Changshui International Airport. The road leading to the hotel was quite rough due to construction work during our stay. It appeared to be the main access road used by many vehicles, so don’t be surprised by the condition of the road. The room is a little old, but it was very clean, comfortable, and affordable. If you're looking for a place to rest for a few hours or stay overnight before an early morning or late-night flight, this hotel is an excellent option. The surrounding environment is peaceful and has a countryside feel. We enjoyed waking up to the sounds of chickens, the fresh air, and the pleasant fragrance of flowers, which was a nice contrast to the busy airport nearby. The hotel also provides complimentary bottled mineral water, and if you don't want to go out for a meal, you can enjoy a steamboat dinner at the hotel's own restaurant. The hotel owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. She provides a free airport shuttle service according to a scheduled timetable and even helped us carry our luggage, which made the transfer very convenient. Overall, Bai Nian Sheng Shi Hotel offers excellent value for money. The friendly hospitality, free airport shuttle, clean rooms, and peaceful surroundings make it a great choice for travelers needing a convenient stay near Kunming Airport.
