The azul cielo hostel has a super chill vibe. The a**osphere and decorations of the hotel gives you the old colorful mexican experience combined with art from modern local mexican artists. Friendly helpful staff. In the middle garden you are surrounded with a lot of plants and trees which makes you feel you are not in a city. A perfect oasis of rest in the city. located at walking distance of the city center. It also has a chill bar where you can have a drink but it is not for loud late drinking so perfect for those who want to sleep and rest. Each day you get a different breakfast so it is very varied local food.

It's not so fair to say that I didn't like this place, because I did, but we left after 2 nights (though we stayed in Oaxaca for 8 nights). We had a private room on the first (not ground) floor, though for some reason we were not given the suite that I reserved and paid for. We were put off first by the lack of air-conditioning (it was hot in Oaxaca), and the fact that the bathroom window opened to the upstairs public space, but what decided us to move was the neighborhood. We go out every night; we don't cook dinner at the hostel because we prefer to catch the evening action in the zocalo, plus I don't cook on vacation, and the walk from the centro historico to Azul Cielo is not exactly scary, but unpleasant. On the plus side, the people working there are very nice, very helpful; the a**osphere is lovely; the design and decoration of our room were tasteful except for that bathroom window and breakfast varies daily. Apparently not everyone is bothered by the location; while we were there a group of older travellers around our age were staying also, and in rooms without a private bathroom. We moved to a hotel really not much closer to the zocalo in terms of walking distance, (but much closer to the outer edge of the centro historico) which lacked character but had excellent facilities, was cheaper, and in a much more salubrious neighborhood where eating options were much much closer.

Great hostel! Has a nice array of activities to do and curtains on beds mean you can also have time to yourself if you prefer that. Breakfast isn't served until 8:30am which is a bit of a pain but the food is good. Although there is social time with music, it's not a loud hostel and I slept well. Staff very friendly.

One of the best hostels we’ve stayed in. Variety of rooms from big dorms to swanky private en-suites rooms with balconies overlooking lovely garden courtyard. There’s also a nice rooftop bar. Good breakfast served at a long table so great to meet and chat to others staying there. Really nice a**osphere. We don’t speak Spanish and the reception guys Dani and Angel were really helpful booking trips, helping with onwards transport etc. The only downside some may say is that it’s a 10 minute walk into the centre but we liked being out of the madness of the city centre and it meant it was quite at night.

Terrific little boho b&b in a great neighborhood. Conveniently walkable to the Zócalo and restaurants in El Centro. There are several shared dormitories as well as very comfortable single rooms with private bath. Some of the private rooms have terraces. Staff is super friendly and dedicated to their guests having a pleasant stay. Breakfast is included. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

As a solo US traveler with imperfect Spanish - this is the place for you! The accommodations are amazing, and the staff can tell you exactly how to get to all your most desired stops and attractions. It’s incredibly secure. I felt so taken care of. It’s small enough that you know who is staying with you. It’s truly a family operation. Could not recommend enough!!!

I loved everything about this hostel: the location, the safety (for a woman traveling solo), the open spaces for connecting with other guests, the delicious, healthy free breakfasts. Wifi was strong throughout the grounds. Hot showers!

We really enjoyed our stay here! We rented a private room on the terraza for a week in Oaxaca. The hostel was close to the center of the city, clean, and the included breakfast was a nice way to get to know other guests. Everything was super clean and everyone who worked there was incredibly kind and helpful. Also, guests really respected the quiet hours and so it was really quiet at night (something that is very important to a light sleeper like me). We will be staying here again in the future.

Can't say enough good things about the staff and how helpful they are. Accomodations and cleanliness exceeded my expectations for a budget hostel. do recommend ear plugs.
