Recently stayed at the Ship and Castle in St Mawes and found the Hotel to be very clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely pleasant and professional and very polite. The room we stayed in was very clean and pleasant and was serviced regularly. Would highly recommend this Hotel and will be definitely be rebooking another stay.

The hotel is in front of the sea with beautiful views over the bay. The dining room, lounge and bedrooms were spotless. The dining room has good windows overlooking the bay. The hotel is a minute's walk from the ferry to Falmouth, cafes, shops, and pubs.

Myself & my boyfriend stayed here for a couple of days while he was working close to the area. On arrival we were checked in really quickly, our room was on the first floor and was a sea view room with a balcony. There was a lift however there was still a couple of steps to up then a couple more to go down to get to our room. On opening our room door we were instantly wowed by the view! The balcony doors opened to a table & a couple of chairs & we were just across the road from the harbour. It was idyllic especially as the weather was hot & sunny. The room itself was spotlessly clean, the bathroom was large and the shower was good. The room had a good sized wardrobe with plenty of hangers. There was a safe inside the wardrobe as well. There was a Tassimo coffee machine with plenty of pods as well as regular tea & coffee. A hair dryer was in one the drawers and a tv on the wall. I have to say the bed was one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept in! It was so lovely having the patio doors open at night looking over the harbour. We opted for breakfast and this was in a dining room again with terrific views over the harbour. The staff were lovely & friendly and had lots of local knowledge. The actual breakfast was ok, there was a hot section but the only egg option was scrambled, There was a toaster and also croissants and pain au chocolates. Apple juice & orange juice was available as well as hot drinks. Underneath the hotel is a bakery as well as a second bakery just across the road, when we stay here again we’ll opt out of breakfast and use these instead as they have a larger range of breakfast options & it’s great to use as many local businesses as possible! We were sad to leave and will definitely return here’

After recently staying for our second time at The Ship & Castle, I think it will be our last. We really are not fussy people at all, but there are too many little things that need to be addressed, some even from a year ago as we got the excat same room for our 2 night stay. The drainage in the shower wasn't great, nor was the cleanliness as when we lifted the shower cap, It looked like it had never been cleaned (not pretty). Toilet roll holder still not connected to the wall properly, (cheap toilet roll), toilet seat at back still very lose, strains on the carpet excatly the same place as last year, no nice mini toiletries that we had last year & balcony area very dirty with cigarette Ash. It is such a shame as this Hotel has unbelievable potential in such a beautiful spot in St Mawes. The staff have always been super amazing, but unfortunately, everything else lets it down. I will also add that £310 for 2 nights, not including breakfast, is also a little steep, although we could have overlooked this if the Hotel had been up to standards. Going forward, I really hope someone takes a serious look at this hotel and brings it up to the standard that it truly deserves.

I wasn't anticipating the hotel to be up to much after seeing some photos and reviews on TripAdvisor, but I was very pleasantly surprised. We booked last minute and were at the back of the hotel (so no view), however this didn't matter as we were out enjoying the views until bedtime. The room looks to have been recently renovated and was modern and comfortable, with tv (Netflix), hairdryer, kettle and decent mattress and pillows. For the price, I thought it was a bargain. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it was fresh and bright with a stunning view (see photos). The only let-down was it needed more attention to detail when cleaning the room, as there was a chocolate wrapper on the floor under the bedside table and the bathroom kickboards were full of dust and cobwebs. The general bathroom suite was clean though. It was also very hot, but a fan was supplied in the wardrobe. Overall I'd go back. Fabulous central location, a 2 minute walk to the public car park (£7 for 24 hours).

The Ship and Castle hotel, in St. Mawes, has excellent potential: the building is a typical English one with the pub - restaurant on the ground floor and the rooms on the upper floors, the hotel is located in the center and the rooms are large and comfortably furnished. The staff is also very friendly and the breakfast, although slightly expensive, is quite good and varied (the only flaw is that many products ran out quickly, greatly reducing the variety). What, unfortunately, made the stay very uncomfortable was the lack of hot water in our room. We tried all the possible combinations, waited even 20 minutes (with regret for the waste of water but after having received a lot of rain we physically needed a hot shower) and in the end we went to ask for help. We were told to wait with the tap open and the next day we asked for help again without getting it. It may happen that the structure has a problem but I think it was poorly managed, I would have preferred someone to come to the room to give us a hand or to check the situation and, in this case, a partial refund or, perhaps, a voucher would have been corrected on their part for breakfast.

Room was dark and dingy. Over looked by the pub opposite. We were pleased it was currently not used. Meals were very nice, but 5 chips was nowhere near enough . Breakfast was a good selection but needed to be a lot hotter to be enjoyed. I would not recommend this to anyone with mobility problems. Our room was on the first floor, but we had many stairs up and down ,through a few doors and across uneven landings. I did ask for a different room, but was told nothing was available.
