The hotel itself is not bad - beds are comfortable and large, and the dinner is okay, but nothing too special.
This hotel overwhelmingly caters to families, which is evident when staying there: there are many children, and a lot of the amenities cater to them as well. For example the sauna is not very hot and there’s a lot of candies in the free snack bar. I wish the hotel was better at communicating / marketing this on their website, as I’m not the intended audience and it’s very expensive for a mediocre experience.
As well, the breakfast timing is questionable - only available from 7am - 8:30am, along with a 10am checkout time this is quite an early start and not very relaxing.
The hotel was beautiful, and my dad and I were very happy with our stay. The room was extremely clean. We tried the hot springs on the hotel's top floor and also at the shopping mall across the street, and the ones at the mall were definitely better. We booked the 'one night, two meals' package, and overall it was excellent value for money. Regarding transportation, I didn't research it thoroughly beforehand, but it turns out you can take a bus directly from Odawara, Hakone-Yumoto, and Gora stations, and it's free if you use the Hakone Free Pass. When we arrived, a Chinese ticket agent told us the Odawara bus was very crowded and suggested we take the H line from Hakone-Yumoto. There's also a bus that goes directly to the hotel from the Hakone Open-Air Museum. The hotel's own shuttle bus has a fixed schedule (see image below), and the pickup spot at Gora Station can be a bit tricky to find.
The room was absolutely tiny, maybe only 3 square meters. There wasn't even enough space to properly open my luggage. This has to be the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in – I was truly taken aback by how incredibly compact it was. To make matters worse, it was located in the basement, which made it feel stuffy and humid. While the air conditioning offered a bit of relief, it certainly didn't make the room comfortable.
The hotel is quite large, but you can't cook. The balcony is angled, and it's an old hotel with a nostalgic feel. Breakfast is a bit expensive at 200 RMB, with limited variety, but the taste is good and very filling. There's a shuttle bus for 1000 JPY per person, which you can arrange at the front desk or ask the staff at the airport customer service center to help you buy tickets for. It seems the route will change soon, and the price will also increase. Information flow between staff members isn't always smooth, so inquiries might not always be accurate; you need to verify. You can simply scan a QR code on your phone to order. It's very convenient for airport transfers, and they help with luggage. However, you need to give the driver your ticket when boarding. The hotel's second floor has direct access to Queen's Square, which is very convenient. They provide toothpaste, toothbrushes, and brushes, so you don't need to bring your own. There's a bathtub with a view, but you need to explore these amenities yourself as Japanese service isn't proactively helpful. Also, efficiency in Japan can be a bit slow, and they're very particular, so there's no need to arrive too early; they'll make you wait even if you do!
First off, the room was incredibly clean! Housekeeping did a thorough job every day. The front desk staff were warm and patient, and the facilities were very new and well-maintained.
Secondly, the hotel's location is excellent! It's just a few minutes' walk from Yamashita Park and Chinatown, and the Hikawa Maru is also nearby. Yokohama Station and the Red Brick Warehouse are also very close.
Shopping nearby is super convenient! There's a 7-Eleven and a Lawson right downstairs. If you walk towards Chinatown a bit, there's a supermarket. It's also close to Yokohama Station's commercial center, making shopping very easy.
The room was spacious with large floor-to-ceiling windows. I booked a bay-view twin room and was given a fantastic view from the 17th floor. The hotel is located directly above a shopping mall, which has a cinema and plenty of shops, making it super convenient. Sakuragicho Station and a sightseeing ropeway are right downstairs, too. It was a great experience overall. The only minor downside was that toothbrushes weren't provided, but thankfully there are supermarkets nearby, so I just popped downstairs to buy some.
The location is a bit remote. If you take the tram, you need to walk quite far. It is close to the bus station. There is a small safe at the head of the bed. The bed is a wooden capsule with a wood smell. The public area is good. There is a self-service kitchen with complete tableware and many small appliances. You can make your own coffee, tea and other beverages. There is a public large refrigerator and a small open-air hot spring. The overall cost performance is high
Service: Overall very good, just a small suggestion: some of the breakfast restaurant staff moved around too frequently while clearing dishes, and the noise from them walking past was a bit disruptive to the dining experience.
Environment: The location is excellent, it's one of Yokohama's landmark buildings. Truly beautiful, with perfect design inside and out.
Cleanliness: Very thorough, spotless inside and out!
Facilities: The most beautiful harbor views are fully visible – that alone deserves full marks! There are also plenty of parking spaces, making it very convenient for coming and going!
Next time I visit Yokohama, I will definitely stay at the InterContinental Yokohama again!

The staff was very friendly and the amenities included use of the onsen for one hour was great as it was included within the price. The room was clean peaceful and had a nice Japanese vibe. Unfortunately, the room is not en suite.
I would say the location wasn’t great as you should note it isn’t actually in the main area of Hakone but rather by the lake where you take the boat ride. You also have to walk up a hill to get there.

I really needed some help with golf reservations and understandably it is not her business that we had to go golfing the next day. However, I didn’t realize it was such a rude thing to ask for another employee who could understand what I was saying when she couldn’t understand my requests specifically because of her lack of English proficiency. For this property to become popular with international guests, it would be a wholesome idea for the chief manager to learn to speak better English anyways.
I guess she knew that she was being rude by hitting the desk because she came up to me and gave me her business card (without my asking and finally in a nice manner) when I merely asked a younger staff member if the angry lady was the manager. She must have known that she was giving me attitudes.
When you are in the hospitality business, please don’t forget that guests are there to enjoy their trip—savoring each moment—not to feel uncomfortable or be bothered by staff’s attitudes.

GGuest UserI spent a wonderful night here during New Year's Eve. The waiter barely understands people and foreign languages, but he is friendly and good at communication. I booked a public bathroom first, but then I changed it to a private bath when there was room. My satisfaction improved a lot! The hotel is very close to Hakoyō-Yumoto Station, and the taxi cost was less than 1,000 yen. Later, we couldn't get a taxi and it was very comfortable for us to walk to the station for 15 minutes with our children🏳️🌈

We arrived early and could not check in until after 3:30 pm, but fortunately we could leave our luggage at the hotel. The staff helped us make the bed when we were having dinner in the evening. There was a rich variety of dinner, but we didn’t really like the side dishes. It would have been better if the side dishes were replaced with sashimi. We even had a surprise dessert after the meal, which made us very happy. The breakfast the next day was also very filling and delicious. The experience is very good and recommended for staying.

Room and and facilities are great and the kids really loved the indoor ones.unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the foot bath outdoor but the overall experience is the best of this Tokyo trip. The free minibar is a clear value add.

Location is great, in an office building, but it was really hard to find the first time. I couldn't find the entrance from Tokyu below, and had to ask around a lot. However, it was super convenient afterward. There are also a few Chinese restaurants downstairs, and you can hear a lot of people speaking Chinese working in the building. It's more suitable for sleeping than a vacation feel (compared to Tokyu). The sofa in the room is quite comfortable, and the bed's firmness is good too.

Room was more or less as expected, and the dinner and breakfast meals were quite elaborate. Felt that breakfast was actually the stronger meal of the two, so wasn’t necessarily worth it to pay extra for dinner. I’d likely skip doing dinner in the future. The room attendant who helped us was very kind and attentive, although we had a bit of language barrier given we don’t speak Japanese.
The big disappointment was even though the ryokan is advertised as allowing guests to book one of the larger hot springs on the property for private use for 45 minutes, we weren’t able to do this. We arrived within the designated check in time and were told that it was all booked up for the day. There was no way to book in advance and we were only staying for one night, and they didn’t try to accommodate allowing us to book at all for the next day before checkout. This really hampered the experience overall - we weren’t that interested in using the gender segregated facility (was traveling with my partner who is the opposite gender) as we wouldn’t be able to spend time together, and the tub in our room was quite small.
They should amend this policy to allow all guests to book a private hot spring time or not advertise it as part of the room! Feels like we got cheated out of the service and we weren’t offered anything else as an alternative. I would have booked another ryokan had I known this were the case - there are many others in Hakone which are much better value and have nicer / newer private facilities for around the same price. I wouldn’t recommend Yama no Chaya given this was a big part of what we thought would make it a good experience
AAnonymous UserA very beautiful ryokan, old but very well maintained. The decor is so beautiful. From the moment you check in, you will be in good hands of the ryokan, well served with friendliness. Keiseki meals (dinner and breakfast) are served in the room. Food is delicious! And love the private outdoor onsen!! U get to book for 30 minutes per day for the stay. Well worth the price.

It's closer to Shin-Takashima Station on the Minatomirai Line, but navigation always recommends walking to Yokohama Station. Yokohama has many bakeries and brunch options, so I didn't try the hotel's buffet breakfast, which I think was 2750 yen per person. Overall, it's pretty good value for money. The room I booked was at the end of the hallway, a street-view room, and quite spacious. There's no minibar, and even the fridge wasn't turned on. There are no overhead lights in the room, and the walls are all black, making it quite dim.
KKadifazhengThis hotel once hosted the Emperor. The rooms are spacious, and being nestled in the mountains, the air is rich with negative ions. There's a balcony where you can step out and listen to the gentle sound of water. For our hot spring experience, we opted for a private onsen. Breakfast was a bit crowded, but well-organized. All dinner restaurants require reservations; if you don't have one, the izakaya on the second floor is a good option, and their set meals are quite decent. You can take a train up the mountain, making the location very convenient. The red bridge in front of the hotel is also incredibly picturesque for photos.
MM253742****I booked a lake-view room, but at first, the front desk gave me a garden-view room with only a tiny glimpse of the lake on the left. After some discussion, they finally switched my room. Later, after my bath, I noticed that several rooms with better views were just getting occupied, so it really shows you have to advocate for yourself. After the room change, the scenery was fantastic, directly facing Mount Fuji, absolutely stunning. The breakfast selection was also rich. The only downside is that transportation is a bit inconvenient; there aren't many shuttle buses, and public transport services are limited.
