The stay was wonderful! We were touched by the hospitality shown by the boss and his wife. They were really friendly and helpful, spending time to chat with us, and ensuring our stay was comfortable and our needs met. We were also served fruits! The decoration and architecture of the accommodation were impressive and the location is just excellent! We could walk to the various go-to places for food, tours and performances. Our bedroom was spacious, situated upstairs. The lower floor was where we could chill and eat or drink. There's a beautiful feel about the place. We also had fun speaking with their pet parrot One reason we fell in love with Datong is Renyi Inn!

This is my second stay here! It's very close to the ancient city, about a 10-minute taxi ride away, and also about 10 minutes from Datong South Station. The hotel has a high star rating, and the butler service is attentive and warm. The rooms are well-equipped with everything you need. It's truly perfect for families, as it allows for separate resting areas while also providing space to work. A big shoutout to the lamb offal soup with vermicelli at breakfast – it was delicious!

What was most disappointing about this stay wasn't a broken piece of equipment or simply a late room delivery, but rather the hotel management's arrogant, shirking, and inactionary attitude when faced with problems. We booked three suites for two nights. The hotel's policy is a 12 PM checkout and 2 PM check-in. We arrived at 10:30 AM to check-in, but two suites weren't ready until around 4:30 PM, and the last one wasn't available until almost 5 PM. The duty manager, Becky, repeatedly explained that ”the previous guest only checked out at 3 PM.” However, a previous guest's late checkout, room status coordination, and housekeeping are all internal management issues for the hotel and should not be borne by the next guest. After checking in, we encountered a heating problem. At that time, the nighttime temperature in Mount Wutai was close to or even below 0℃. The hotel's in-room air conditioning system was off, and we had to rely on in-room heaters. The heater in one of the rooms was broken. Maintenance and management staff were slow to arrive, and we waited in the room for the duty manager for over 30 minutes, eventually having to switch rooms. The lobby manager, Manager Chen, explained that ”the hotel is relatively old,” and for the waiting time, stated that ”the front desk was busy, and this is considered a reasonable wait.” Even more outrageous, on the morning of September 30th, the guest in room 8228 went to the front desk in person to report being unable to sleep due to insect noise all night, and also had multiple obvious red swollen areas on their neck. The front desk took photos on the spot, provided a plug-in mosquito repellent, and stated that they would arrange for a re-cleaning of the room. However, during the afternoon discussion, the lobby manager still insisted that it might not be mosquito bites, but rather that ”the guest has a special constitution and is allergic.” Throughout the entire communication process, hotel management almost consistently explained why the problems were ”not the hotel's responsibility”: Late room delivery – blamed on the previous guest's late checkout; Manager's slow arrival – blamed on the busy front desk; Broken equipment – blamed on the hotel being old; Suspected mosquito bites – blamed on the guest's constitution; Cold room – stated there was no other solution. The lobby manager even repeatedly emphasized that ”the hotel is not a five-star hotel” and ”does not have a five-star rating, so it cannot be expected to meet five-star hotel standards.” However, the hotel itself is sold as a 5-diamond high-end hotel on Ctrip and is also under the Marriott brand. Guests were not asking for extra courtesies, but simply the most basic: rooms delivered on time, equipment functioning, heating when temperatures are near zero, and prompt resolution of issues when they arise. I want to particularly state that this review is not about compensation. The hotel did propose some compensation options during the process, but we ultimately did not accept any financial compensation, room rate reduction, or other benefits. Until our departure, hotel management did not offer a serious and formal apology for these issues. What I truly found unacceptable was the arrogance, inaction, and continuous shirking of responsibility displayed by the hotel staff when faced with problems. Old equipment can be repaired, late rooms can be coordinated, but if a hotel management team lacks even the most basic attitude of admitting fault, taking responsibility, and solving problems, that is the most serious issue. Objectively speaking, the hotel restaurant service was very good, and Jeremy from concierge was also very responsible. These employees deserve recognition. However, the guest room operations and the way management handled guest complaints fell far short of my basic expectations for the Marriott brand.

Plenty of parking available right at the entrance; we arrived quite late but still found a spot. The hotel is very close to the scenic area, which was super convenient. We had breakfast at the hotel the next morning and headed straight to the attraction, lucky enough to see a rainbow, which made us so happy! They even gave us a souvenir when we checked out – so warm and thoughtful.

Pros: 1. The room offers expansive views, overlooking Yingze Park, which is absolutely beautiful. 2. The hotel's front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and provided excellent service. 3. The hotel's interior facilities and amenities are very tasteful, including the toiletries and complimentary fruit. Cons: (Service rated 3 stars, with 2 stars specifically for dining) 1. The dining management on the hotel's 2nd floor needs significant improvement. We ordered five dishes for dinner; we finished the first two, but the rest were nowhere to be found. Three tables next to us, who arrived 5-10 minutes after us, had already finished their meals and some had even left. After we repeatedly urged them, our remaining dishes finally arrived, including dishes like knife-cut noodles. Others who arrived later had finished theirs before we even got ours. I have photos to prove this. Honestly, this aspect completely falls short of the hotel's overall standard.

My overall experience staying at Shanxi Hotel was excellent. The architecture has an antique charm, and the courtyard environment is elegant, with beautiful lighting at night. The room was very clean and well-equipped, making for a comfortable and reassuring stay. The front desk service was attentive and responsive. The location is convenient, not far from nearby attractions. The breakfast offered a good variety and tasted delicious. It combines a sense of culture with practicality, making it suitable for both leisure travel and short stays. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Taiyuan.

A very satisfying travel experience! The boss was very enthusiastic and drove us in and out of the city. He also recommended a tour route in the city for us, which was very heartwarming~ The environment inside and outside the hotel is beautiful, which is a surprise! The yard satisfies my fantasy of Pingyao Ancient City! Moreover, the hotel is near the city building, which is easy to find. It is in the center of the ancient city when you go out, and it is very convenient to go out for a walk and go anywhere! The facilities in the room are complete, the sanitary conditions are good, the bathing is very comfortable, and the sleep is also comfortable! I will bring my parents and relatives to play next time!

The environment is great! The house is big and clean. It really exceeded the expectations of this trip. Traveling to Datong is cleaner than Datong City and is close to the expressway and scenic spots. It is very convenient to eat in residential areas. Xiao Wu at the front desk has a good service attitude and is clean and hygienic. , parking is free, will stay again next time

After several days of travel, staying here was perfect for a hot spring soak to wash away the fatigue. The night view is absolutely stunning, and the architecture is just like the Wang Family Compound. You can even walk along the city wall, which is very pleasant. I slept incredibly well – the bedding was comfortable, and the environment was quiet, so I slept right through until morning. Waking up to the sound of birds was a lovely experience. No need to worry about meals; the in-house Chinese restaurant charges the same prices as outside establishments, and the service is warm. The Wang family started with tofu, and here you can enjoy authentic Wang Family tofu with a very unique flavor. For parking or taxis, head directly to the underground parking lot. You can ask the concierge to help with your luggage. Since it's an ancient building, elevators cannot be installed, so expect to use stairs.
