Guest UserI highly recommend this guesthouse!
Firstly, the location is excellent. It's right inside the ancient city, very close to Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall, and the ancient city wall, making it incredibly convenient for getting around.
Secondly, the room layout is fantastic. In a prime location within the ancient city where every inch is precious, finding a guesthouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms is quite rare, and it perfectly met our needs.
Room hygiene: The room was clean and tidy, with no strange odors, and it was cleaned daily. Disposable bath towels and toilet seat covers were provided.
The guesthouse also has parrots 🦜, peacocks 🦚, squirrels 🐿️, and goldfish 🐟, which add a lot of life to the place, and these little animals are all very friendly to people.
While there are many guesthouses in the ancient city now, I still recommend this one the most, and the reason is the service! The owner of this guesthouse has an excellent service attitude, answering every question. As soon as we arrived, seeing that we were tired, they immediately brought us iced watermelon 🍉 and peaches 🍑. In the morning, they brought us warm, homegrown old corn 🌽 and local specialties. We were very touched!

Guest UserDatong Wangfu Zhizun Hotel definitely deserves five stars! The location is superb, close to the ancient city and convenient for getting around. The room was super spacious, clean, tidy, and the bedding was comfortable. The service was warm and attentive, and the front desk was efficient. The breakfast was plentiful, with local specialties like lamb offal soup and knife-cut noodles. Free underground parking was also very convenient. Overall, it offers great value for money. This is my top choice when visiting Datong!

Guest UserCheck-in was smooth and convenient. Our room faced the cultural tourism town, so we could enjoy the animation show for free in the evenings. Breakfast offered a good variety. There's also a Chinese restaurant for dinner; it's not managed by the hotel but the food is quite good. We didn't try the buffet, but the dining options close at 2 PM, which feels a bit too early. So, dining was a minor drawback. However, the environment is truly beautiful, surrounded by pine trees, green grass, and flowers. The tranquility is especially appealing for city dwellers. This will be my top choice for accommodation on my next trip to Wutai Mountain.

Anonymous UserI chose this place because it's a hundred-year-old historic house, and I wasn't disappointed! The building is truly beautiful, full of rich historical charm. The hotel offers a shuttle service, and during check-in, they gave clear and comprehensive explanations of the main attractions. Some of the in-room facilities are a bit old, especially the bathroom, and there's a slight 'old house' smell. However, the courtyard is absolutely stunning! As a parting gift, they gave us some aged vinegar. The owner's sincerity really shines through. I'd recommend it!

As a hotel within a scenic area, the facilities were clean and tidy. We had a view of the Yellow River from our window, and the service was excellent. We received helpful reminders during both check-in and check-out, and even a thoughtful souvenir. The restaurant downstairs had delicious food; compared to where we ate the next day, both the portion sizes and taste were far superior and very reasonably priced.

ZhexiaozihaoshuaiaPros:
1. The room offers expansive views, overlooking Yingze Park, which is absolutely beautiful.
2. The hotel's front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and provided excellent service.
3. The hotel's interior facilities and amenities are very tasteful, including the toiletries and complimentary fruit.
Cons: (Service rated 3 stars, with 2 stars specifically for dining)
1. The dining management on the hotel's 2nd floor needs significant improvement. We ordered five dishes for dinner; we finished the first two, but the rest were nowhere to be found. Three tables next to us, who arrived 5-10 minutes after us, had already finished their meals and some had even left. After we repeatedly urged them, our remaining dishes finally arrived, including dishes like knife-cut noodles. Others who arrived later had finished theirs before we even got ours. I have photos to prove this. Honestly, this aspect completely falls short of the hotel's overall standard.

Pros: The architectural landscape is the biggest highlight.
During the day, the ancient double-eaved hip-and-gable roof building is stately and grand, with red pillars, flying eaves, brick carvings, and colorful paintings. Located on the former site of a provincial examination hall, the courtyard is antique and elegant, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle, creating a strong historical atmosphere perfect for photo ops.
At night, with all the lights on, golden illumination outlines the contours of the pavilions, making them look magnificent and splendid. The night view is incredibly atmospheric, making it a very photogenic landmark in Taiyuan. The exterior alone is stunning. The location is excellent, right next to Wuyi Square, Wenying Park, and Liuxiang, making it incredibly convenient for getting around and shopping.
Complaints: Typical old-school state-owned hotel service.
Service is ”just passable, lacking proactiveness.” They follow procedures strictly, without refined, attentive service. They aren't主动 enthusiastic and only respond when prompted, lacking the thoughtful service ethos of private hotels.
Regarding amenities, the leather slippers are sterilized and reused, not disposable. This detracts from the experience for guests who prioritize hygiene. If Shanxi Grand Hotel allowed guests to take the leather slippers (priced at 35 yuan) as a courtesy, it would also be a subtle form of advertising. (Of course, you can request disposable slippers).
Hardware facilities are a bit old. The room interior and bathroom equipment have a dated feel. Maintenance is acceptable, but it doesn't meet the standards of boutique hotels at the same price point. It's a case of ”grand exterior, simple and old-fashioned interior.”
Nevertheless, if you're coming to Taiyuan and can book it, staying at Shanxi Grand Hotel is still recommended.

Chengjia Old Home is a typical Shanxi house style, with a quiet environment amidst the hustle and bustle, quiet but not far from the commercial street. The room is carefully decorated and clean. The service is responsive and considerate, and the pick-up and drop-off services are in place. A very satisfying stay experience. The only thing that needs improvement is that the breakfast can have more variety.

I specially rushed to travel during the off-peak period after the Spring Festival to take the dog out for fun. After booking the room, I added WeChat with the landlady. She thoughtfully sent us the navigation location and a long route to get there. She also helped us book a drama to see Pingyao again. We called her the day before departure. I also contacted the hotel. I felt it was very reliable before going. They arranged to pick us up on the day. Because we were not familiar with it, we needed someone to guide us. However, the location of the inn is very close to the navigation gate and it is very dog-friendly! Very considerate. You can adjust the temperature of the central air conditioner in the room. It is hygienic and clean. The location of the accommodation is very close to South Street and relatively quiet. Because there are not many guests traveling during off-peak hours, we were upgraded to a room type for free. We got a sticker and drew the location. , independent wifi in the room, free access to mineral water, the store staff is really nice! The dog friends who recommended it to me hope that they will all come and check in with their dogs, haha! Almost everything I asked for was answered. Before I left, I said that there was really no need to send us away. It was very close, but the boss lady still asked us to send us away in the scenic spot car. I hope the business is prosperous and the store is caring!

I was on a temporary business trip and took a boat trip to visit the ancient city. Because I was short of time, I couldn't stay overnight, but it was too sunny during the day. After discussing with the boss for a long time, I agreed to stay for a few hours. Haha, I was forced to be given an hourly room. I feel that this small courtyard is quite nice. The only shortcoming is that it would be better if there were more green plants. I sat and drank tea with the boss and chatted until it cooled down before going out. This inn is very convenient from the main street light show and everything. The boss also avoided a lot of pitfalls. It has good reviews.
