2-Star Hotels in Samarkand Region, Uzbekistan

The hotel is located in the old city's residential area, making it easy to walk to the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis and Registan Square. The location is excellent. However, I'm not sure if it was a system issue or something else, but when we arrived, our booked room wasn't available. We had to stay on the first floor for the first night and then move to the second floor for the second night, which was quite inconvenient. The hotel breakfast was just average. There's a three-generation naan bakery right outside the hotel, and their naan is absolutely delicious.

The hotel is conveniently located about one kilometer from Registan, Shah-i-Zinda, the mosque, and the Grand Bazaar, all within walking distance. It's a guesthouse in a small courtyard, clean and tidy, though some facilities are lacking (no toothbrushes, slippers, or an electric kettle). Hot water needs to be heated in the communal kitchen. The owner is very kind, provides a tourist map, and speaks English. When I visited, there was road construction, making it very difficult to get around, but it should be finished in a few days, so future guests will be lucky.

Pros: 1. The location is excellent, just a few steps from Registan Square – incredibly convenient! 2. The room size is reasonable, and the facilities are great. There are hot and cold water dispensers on each floor, which is very handy. The room also has a small fridge, perfect for keeping drinks cold in the summer. 3. Downstairs is the hotel's own highly-rated restaurant, and there are two other restaurants nearby, making dining incredibly convenient. There are also small shops around for buying drinks and snacks. 4. As mentioned above, since the hotel has its own restaurant, the breakfast quality goes without saying. 5. The price is reasonable; I stayed in a single room for three nights for just over 500. Cons: The room seemed to have been recently painted, as there were a few drops of paint on the windowsill and mirror.

Even though I arrived late at night, I was kindly checked in and shown to my room. The hotel is located in a back alley, but it's easy to find as there are many signs. I could walk to all the tourist attractions in Samarkand. It was a great location. The breakfast was also very delicious.

The hostel is located in the Old Town, which is convenient as the bus stop is only a 3-minute walk away. However, it's situated in a small alley, and there's a stretch of road without streetlights when returning from the main square, which felt a bit unsafe at night. The owner was always helpful in solving various issues, for example, when I wanted to boil a couple of eggs in the morning. There's a water dispenser available in the common area, which is handy. The day before I checked in, guests reported no hot water, initially thinking it was due to late-night usage. The next day, it was still cold. When asked, the owner said a circuit breaker had tripped. Once fixed, the water was very hot, so it's important to report any problems promptly. It was advertised as a 4-bed dorm, but it was actually a 5-bed dorm, which was quite a surprise. The owner claimed it couldn't be changed on the platform, a reason I found hard to accept. Even if the main listing couldn't be altered, they could have added a note in the remarks section. Otherwise, it feels like deception, especially for a 'non-refundable' booking where no money is returned. This was the case for both the female and male dorms. With many guests staying, the cleanliness of the common areas struggled to keep up. Also, I didn't seem to find any lockable personal lockers. The owner, who uses a wheelchair, runs this hostel, which is commendable, and the price is good. However, the issues mentioned above do exist. Luckily, I only stayed for one night as a stopover.

This guest house is a wonderful budget-friendly option in Samarkand. It’s conveniently located near the city center, only about 2 km from Registan Square and other major attractions, making it very easy to get around. The room rates are affordable, with options for 2 or 4 guests, which is perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities for a pleasant stay. The host is incredibly kind, gentle, and always willing to help with anything you need. One of the highlights was the homemade breakfast prepared by the family — generous, delicious, and offering a wide variety of dishes each morning. For easier navigation or when booking a taxi, it’s best to search for “Bilol Hotel” on Google Maps. Wishing this lovely guest house continued success and many more happy guests in the future!

Advantages: 1. Excellent location. Approximately a 15-minute walk from Registan Square. 2. The front desk staff were very helpful, assisting with luggage up and down stairs even without an elevator. 3. There's a viewing platform on the third floor with sofas and tables, suitable for leisure travelers. Disadvantages: 1. Room types are not standard; the size of the double rooms varies. When no rooms were available, I was given a triple room with a bed that appeared to be only 0.8 meters wide. 2. There's no POS machine at the front desk, and the prepaid deposit cannot be deducted from the room rate; only cash payment is accepted.

We stayed for 3 days and chose this hotel for its proximity to Registan. The location is excellent, everything is close by. We were given a room on the first floor, which wasn't the one we booked. It only had a door with a tiny window, even though we selected a room with a large window by the bed. Breakfast from 8 to 10 AM was simple and the same every day. The bathroom was very small. However, there was always hot water and a good shower, which was a pleasant surprise. Thank you.

The room was very clean. Since we had to take off our shoes indoors, it felt very comfortable. Both the air conditioning and the TV were modern, making our stay very pleasant. The bed was also spacious and clean enough for a good night's sleep. The bathroom ventilation wasn't great, so I left the door open, but it wasn't a major issue. The staff's hospitality was excellent. I was reassured when they explained that female staff would handle laundry for women. Regarding the location, it's a bit far from tourist attractions, so a taxi is essential. There's a bus stop right in front. There are also delicious restaurants and a convenience store-like shop nearby, so we had no trouble with meals. I would definitely like to stay here again when I come back to Uzbekistan!

Cleanliness: Although the hotel is a bit old, it's incredibly clean and well-maintained. There were no strange odors inside, which shows their excellent housekeeping and odor control. The lobby always had a faint fruity scent, and our room was spotless. Facilities: The hotel breakfast was fantastic! Besides standard items like coffee, tea, milk, juice, and eggs, they offered a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and local pastries every day. For tourists who spend their days exploring, such a high-quality breakfast is essential. The complimentary bottled water in the room daily was also very practical! Service: All hotel staff spoke fluent English and Russian, so communication was never an issue. They were polite, friendly, and always willing to help. We needed to book an English-speaking tour guide for the next day; after explaining it to the front desk, they immediately helped us contact someone and quickly finalized the booking. The day after our tour, upon returning to the hotel, the staff even followed up to ask if we were satisfied with the experience, showing truly excellent service. Environment: The hotel's location is superb, situated within a pedestrian street, making it very safe. Most major attractions are just a 10-minute walk away. There are many guesthouses and shops nearby, and a square not far off where many locals stroll and walk their children after the sunset cools down, making for a very pleasant evening walk. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our experience at the Sangzor Hotel and highly recommend it to other visitors coming to Samarkand!
