Booked here for 3 nights. Pictures on internet look fine along with most reviews. But when arrived. Greeted by jason and was told to leave bags downstairs while he checked us in. Took us in a room which was very dated and chairs were badly ripped. (This is the dining area) (Not the best first impression) but jason sorted out the parking permit for us. Then asked what we want for breakfast. Full english and we had to have the same for 3 mornings. . And time of breakfast had to be same time each morning. .Anyway got keys to rooms. Room 6 . Opened door . Room was full of dust. Had a look round and it wasnt cleaned at all. Beds weren't made properly and floor was filthy. Extension cable inbetween 2 single beds. . Wardrobe you couldnt open because it is so close to bed. Dressing table stool couldnt pull it out properly because other bed was in way. Then bathroom . It was disgusting. There were hairs on floor along with plenty of dust. Built up of grime on the shower in corners. Shower which was electric ,it was hot but not much pressure from it. We would of walked away but we were with friends who had booked it and paid up front. At breakfast we went at our set time for the door to be wedged so we couldnt get in. Anyway door opened. Couple of mins later. Toast already on table which was stone cold. with coffee and tea. There were another table for two and their food was on table but hadnt got gown yet. Not good. When we poured coffee it was luke warm. Told the lady and she wasnt very happy. Her response was. Cant be ive just done it . She grabbed it and walked away. She returned with another which was hot but said nothing. Kitchen door was left open and all you could here was a conversation between her and her colleague. Life stories. The kitchen didnt look the most hygienic. Luckily we only used the place to get head down. Beds were awful. Very lumpy and duvet full of bobbles. After 2 nights of having to stay we had to leave couldnt cope with another night in the place. There were lots of other things but i would be writing forever. CERTAINLY WOULD NOT BE RETURNING!!!! Decent location and rooms are equipped with sufficient amenities. Sound proofing could be improved.

The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay for my birthday weekend! A very relaxing guest house that thought of every detail. Beautiful decor all very clean, very comfortable beds and amazing breakfast. V. Child friendly too All in all the perfect base in a quiet and beautiful part of York, close enough to stroll through the museum gardens into the Centre or amble along the Riverside. Thank you for a memorable weekend!

Again that won't be the only (in my opinion) lie that they say to get people to stay but we'll get to that. It says that it is close to the city centre do you consider 20 minutes on foot close? Again it doesn't tell you it's next to a hospital or show you the front of the building in it's pictures that's because it's a house and a pokey one at that. Next let's move on to the rules they don't tell you about before arrival, you are not allowed alcohol in the room you are not allowed takeaway in the room and you are strongly encouraged not to make any noise after 10pm what is more fun when you're on holiday than copius rules? On top of that the rooms are incredibly small it feels like you're in someone's back bedroom, which wouldn't be a problem if that was clearly shown that was what it was but it wasn't clear. Also whilst in there you feel incredibly on view and like you have to be on your best behavior again as though you are staying with a parent not want you want on holiday. Relaxation isn't on the cards. Finally, the staircase is a deathtrap (in my opinion) incredibly steep and not wheelchair friendly, also the front of the property is very icy and that is also hazardous. Oh and the online check in procedure where you have to give you passport details is also irritating. If I had known any of this before going I never ever would have, in my opinion they keep most of these things like the rules out of sight until you get there again becuase they know it will put people off. Do yourself a favor and stay away

We stayed here 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Very friendly and helpful checkin on arrival. Our room was well equipped with everything you require for a comfortable stay and it was very quiet. Only small complaint was we had an upstairs room and it got quite hot during the day and took awhile to cool off at night. There’s a pub across the road for meals and a drink and a convenience store a short walk away. A short pleasant walk to the city with all the amazing things York has to offer. There’s a no alcohol policy in your room which has attracted some negative feedback in the past. But it’s the owners place so it’s their rules and we had no problem respecting their decision. We had a cup of tea at night instead of our glass of red. The majority of people would drink responsibly in their rooms but there’s always a few that would spoil it for everyone else and the owners have no option but to make it a blanket ban. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone else.

Firstly, it has to be said this ‘Guest Accommodation’ is in an excellent location. Though you do need to be on Google maps to find the tiny entrance hidden next to a mobile phone repair shop. Minutes walk from the Shambles, the Minster, excellent selection of dining venues to suit all budgets. Betty’s if you can ever get in! What isn’t so fabulous is the actual accommodation. I paid nearly £200 for one night for myself and my daughter as a treat after a particularly difficult year during which we lost her father, my ex husband and my fiancé within 3 months of each other. The room was dingy, not terribly clean and the beds looked ‘thrown together’ with the bedding and very uncomfortable. The pillows were, well, I’ve thrown away better, less lumpy items. The carpet was stained and there was an unexpected and unannounced difference in level between the bedroom and bathroom floor levels. According to the cardboard key holder you are given you used to be able to choose a breakfast to be delivered to your room, sadly no more but that’s ok. Starbucks is 20 paces away. Considering they state they are guest accommodation in their defence of reviews their prices are definitely ’hotel’ and they always ask where it states 5*? Well, at the top of the page! The bathroom window could not be closed and at 5am when it poured down the gap in the guttering above the wheelie bin under the bathroom window beat a tattoo which woke us both. The woman on reception last night was the least helpful woman ever, admittedly probably due to the weather the tv lost signal so I called reception for help and advice. I was told I “need to rescan the tv”. OK, how? Where do I find the instructions for the tv or have you got them? Her response? “We don’t know the details of each tv in each room, it will be somewhere in the menu”. OK, WHERE in the menu? Response there came none. When asked if they thought it might be a good idea if they had copied the troubleshooting part of the manual if it was too much to leave the instructions in the room there was a sigh. I mean. It’s only telly. But. I’m paying top money for ‘guest accommodation’. And yes. When we checked out I said it was ok. I know. But having tried to communicate with reception last night I had no faith in any response.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and I asked the hotel if they could sort anything out for me to make it a little bit romantic as it was her birthday. This was no issue for them at all. My girlfriend was surprised and the smile on her face was the best thing ever. I ended up paying for an extra night which was promptly sorted for me. Cannot thank the hotel enough. Next time I visit York I will stay here again

At arrival we managed to get the key before the actual check in time. I called the number and the housekeeper very kindly gave me the key card and showed me how to open doors for later on. We were so lucky to have a family room even if it was just the two of us. We stayed in room 3 at ground floor. There was plenty of space and lots of tea and coffee and a small fridge as well. The bathroom is awesome, brand new with a huge shower and very clean. Only thing is the radiators in the room do not work so there is a heater. The room was quite warm but maybe it would be better to have a different heating system for winter. We like staying in Fulford because it's much quieter than the city centre. The bus stop is very close and busses run every 15 minutes. Perfect for us!

My partner and I have just returned from a 2 night stay in a deluxe double room at this frankly superb b&b. Only a 6min walk to the Minster (or an 8 minute walk through the beautiful museum gardens) and with several lovely pubs within short walking distance. The staff here are friendly, the rooms immaculate, the beds unbelievably comfy and the breakfast simply wonderful. We will definitely be back very soon and have already recommended it to family.

Riviera was welcoming, clean, comfortable, with friendly, efficient and hardworking staff. Our room had a lovely view. Breakfast was delicious, with a great choice of options. A couple of things that needed attention were taken on board by staff when we mentioned them. Would be happy to visit Whitby and stay at Riviera again.

We booked a 4 night stay at this wonderful house and it was absolutely delightful. The staff were superb and couldn't do enough for us. Sadly after 2 nights we had to leaved due to ill health, but the compassion/help by the staff was superb. A beautiful place to stay at as the standard in this house are more than A1. It is impeccable and truly a magnificent place to stay at. The breakfast was lovely and a huge choice. However, apart from booking an apartment which has a lift, there are many stairs to climb, which could be problematic to people who have certain needs. Also breakfast is served in the basement which adds to more stairs.

A gem of a find! We were visiting Whitby but wanted to stay somewhere away from the bustle of the town. Only 3 miles away down a little lane near Sandsend beach was Mulgrave Country Cottage, set in woodlands it was so peaceful and completely unpretentious. A lovely lounge and large bedrooms. Blaine and Jasmin were so helpful and provided a delicious breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Riviera was welcoming, clean, comfortable, with friendly, efficient and hardworking staff. Our room had a lovely view. Breakfast was delicious, with a great choice of options. Nice stay for two tired and hungry coast to coast walkers. Room was clean, shower nice & bed comfy. Slept well. Pub food downstairs did take a while but was good. Breakfast was good and catered to GF and vegetarian. Overall stay = happy customer :)

Lovely set up, just what I wanted on my solo reflective hike along the cleaveland way. A stone throw away from the sea front and short 10/15 min beautiful coastal walk to centre. Clean, tidy and amazing hosts whom were very attentive and most helpful. Hot Breakfast was really tasty and also cold breakfast bar available.Very accommodating to my vegetarian needs. Helpful in giving pointers as to places of interest. Felt extremely safe as a lone traveller. Thank you.
