La Vista Hakodate Bay Annex

Hakodate|1.73km from Mt. Hakodate Observatory
The combination of Japanese and Western styles is very good. Japanese people are more rule-abiding, while foreigners don't understand the rules. The hotel is also tolerant and friendly. It is close to the business of the red brick warehouse (there are restaurants, shops, and seafood supermarkets), and it is only a 5-minute walk away. Guests include Japan, South Korea, **************, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. La Vista is a big chain brand with branches in various tourist resorts in Japan. It takes about 15 minutes to take a taxi to the ”Tropical Botanical Garden” in Hakodate. There are monkeys bathing in hot springs there. It is very interesting to feed the monkeys in the hot springs under heavy snow (special food, 100 yen for a small bag. You cannot feed other food at will). I met a Chinese father and two sons who entered a hot spring with their clothes on. It was obviously their first time bathing in a hot spring in Japan. Later, they took off their clothes and put on slippers. It’s hard to say anything, but it’s best to know more about Japanese hot springs in advance. The difference from other places is to respect local customs. There are ”on-the-way” arrows for picking up breakfast, and the hotel also provides everyone with a small map. However, most Chinese people don't pay attention to the direction, are prone to going in the wrong direction, and their voices are an order of magnitude louder than in normal environments. Overall very good, high score.

Hotel&Spa Century Marina Hakodate

We stayed at Century Marina for our first night in Hokkaido and originally chose it for its proximity to most of the sites we wanted to see in Hakodate. It's just a few minute walk from the train station with plenty of sidewalks so pulling our suitcases was no issue. The hotel also has a large parking lot if you choose to drive. It's also just a few minute walk from the warehouse district and the older area up the hill where a lot of historical embassies and churches are. The hotel's breakfast buffet is an experience itself with an extensive spread of both Japanese and Western food options. You will reserve a time slot when checking in, but even then you should expect a 10-20 minute wait in the morning to get your table, so its best to go up before your reserved time. This hotel also has one of the best rooftop onsen I've seen, with wonderful views of the whole marina and hill. When booking I didn't realize there was a hot springs so this was a nice surprise. Our room was right next to the elevator but very quiet and clean. This is a newer hotel too so everything felt very fresh and well-maintained. We checked in using Japanese, but the hotel has check-in info packets and signs in English so this is a good option for non-Japanese speaking guests as well.

What an amazing hotel HakoBA Hakodate is. It is located in the old Fuji Bank building which gives it a unique character. They have done an amazing job updating the interior making it look modern yet still letting the character of the building shine through, awesome! Staff at reception were super friendly and helped us with lots of recommendations, like food and drink, and helped us with the public transport 1-day pass which you can buy here. There's also a cool little shop in the reception area selling local gifts. The room was really nice and we were lucky they gave us a room on the top floor which meant the room had really high ceilings and amazing details on the ceiling. Bathroom was pretty large, very modern and clean. Location wise this hotel is perfect. It is a 20 minute walk from the station but well connected to other public transport like buses and the city tram system. Located in the middle of the redbrick warehouse area of Hakodate there's plenty of shopping and restaurants around. Ideal for exploring this amazing city. Highly recommend staying here!

Stayed in a suite. The room was very large, with kitchen and coffee mills, and it felt like staying in a luxurious house. I think the meal is very good because the welcome cake was very delicious. From the big window, Motomachi and Hakodate mountain are visible and have a feeling. It is just a good location for walking in the western district, such as Motomachi and Hakodate station, and the tram stop is also close, so access is good.

Super Conveniently Located the Guest House Hakodate Bay

This hostel still needs a little improvement in terms of hygiene, but I personally think it's okay. The boss is very welcoming, and most importantly, the must-see attractions in Hakodate are very close to this hostel and it only takes about ten minutes to walk. So. You can still choose a day or two!

The environment is good and very convenient. You can walk to the Jinsen Red Brick Warehouse in 5 minutes. The room is clean overall, but the towels are still old. The most surprising thing is that there is a Natural Spa in the room. I broke out in a sweat after sitting in it for about 20 minutes. 😁
