"Two nights at Laochengenguan was absolutely fantastic! First, it was spotless and well-equipped. Second, the breakfast was abundant and delicious, even coming with fruit. Third, the service was truly top-notch; their patience made us feel right at home! (I booked two nights, but needed to switch rooms in between, which shows how popular this place is. However, on the morning of the second day, we were rushing to Hengshan Hanging Temple and completely forgot about the room change. The owner actually called to check if we’d like to move, as the new room was already cleaned. Of course, we happily agreed! This way, it didn't disrupt our sightseeing, and we could rest as soon as we returned! A big thank you to the owner once again! Staying at Laochengenguan is perfect for visiting attractions and shopping."

"If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.) Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired."

"I booked a special offer room, so it wasn't very spacious. In the evenings, they provided sleep-inducing milk and fruit. Breakfast wasn't included, but they thoughtfully brought us some local Datong breakfast specialties in the morning anyway. When we checked out, they even gave us Datong vinegar and millet as a gift. The ladies at the front desk and the housekeeping staff were all wonderful. I regret not remembering the housekeeper's name, but the front desk staff I remember were Meng Nan and Wang Caiyun."

"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

Wooden furniture, warm lighting, and thoughtfully displayed local characteristics and surrounding information reveal the owner's excellent taste. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a sound night's sleep. Even more surprisingly, the soundproofing in the room was exceptional. There was no need to worry about being disturbed by the sounds from the book bar or the street, truly achieving a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. 💖 Thoughtful Service, as Warm as Coming Home The front desk lady had a sweet smile and proactively introduced the hotel's features and nearby dining options during check-in. Any questions I had were answered promptly, which made me feel very much at ease. This stay completely exceeded my expectations. It's not just a place to rest your feet, but a healing space where one can slow down and enjoy a moment of tranquility. I highly recommend it to all book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and friends who appreciate aesthetics! The next time I visit this city, this will definitely be my top choice."

"The owner upgraded our room, which was fully equipped, clean, and tidy. The disposable bath towels were a thoughtful touch. The service was warm and attentive; they even helped us with our luggage. The recommended restaurants in the old town were all excellent. The knife-cut noodles for breakfast tasted even better than those in other restaurants, and the side dishes prepared by the lady were very much to our liking. Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely come back next time."

"Traveling for business used to mean staying at chain hotels, so I was pleasantly surprised to book one of Datong's top two hotels this time. The off-season rate was incredibly good value. The facilities are top-notch, and the service was beyond satisfactory. The breakfast, in particular, was very extensive; it's the first time I've ever had steak for breakfast at a hotel! The check-in and check-out processes were simple and convenient, and they even upgraded my room proactively. I'll definitely choose this hotel first for my next business trip to Datong!"

"The room was spacious, clean, and bright. Although the en-suite bathroom was a bit compact, its layout was very practical and well-designed. We really liked the integrated smart controls throughout the room, and the hotel staff were wonderfully warm and attentive. The L'Occitane toiletries were a nice touch. However, the hotel's biggest disappointment was the breakfast served in the basement. It was simply chaotic! The food and drink stations were disorganized, and the seating area was a complete mess, with tables and chairs crammed everywhere, even spilling into the aisles – clearly an attempt to seat more guests. The staff themselves seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, constantly rushing around to clear tables while guests stood waiting with their plates of food. This was during an off-peak travel period; I can only imagine the sheer chaos and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds during peak season. Fortunately, there's a Fenglin Pavilion downstairs serving dim sum, where for around 20-something RMB, one could enjoy a satisfying meal in a much more pleasant setting."

"Everything was ok. Room was clean, with nice views and as depicted in the web. Staff is kind and helpful. You can ask them for advice to visit the main hotpots in Datong. But bear in mind that this is an b&b with no proper reception desk. You need to contact the property in advance, or go to the liquor shop next door otherwise. The hotel does not provide real towels but disposable towels (made of paper)."

"The staff upgraded us to a suite room upon check-in. Also provided daily fruit platter and 梨汤. Supper of 刀削面，egg and warm milk was great! Special commendation to 郭六女 for good service. Parking convenient."
