The Yungang Jianguo Hotel (Datong Yungang Jianguo Binguan) offers various rooms furnished with 32-inch LCD TVs, DVD players, plush bedding, upscale furniture and free broadband internet access. Each suite has laptops and two bathrooms equipped with jacuzzis and LCD TVs. For recreation, the karaoke hall and the nightclub are good to dance the night away and socialize with friends. Sporty guests can take advantage of the table tennis, billiards, fitness center and indoor swimming pool on offer. In addition, the hotel also offers a variety of massage, sauna and spa services.

"Even though the hotel's facilities are a bit dated, the service and food are absolutely on point! The breakfast was the absolute highlight! Seriously, you're missing out by not promoting it more! The knife-cut noodles (better than any chain restaurant – get the original flavor, trust me!) are a must-try. The tofu vermicelli, kuailai (a local dish), and lamb offal vermicelli are all pretty much on par with what you'd find at good to excellent local restaurants. All the side dishes are quite refined and the ingredients are top-notch. For example, the stir-fried bok choy had very few stems and was incredibly tender! The broccoli and baby corn were also very refreshing! The variety is excellent, with both Chinese and Western options, as well as local specialties. Noodles are made fresh on the spot. It really met my expectations for a high-end hotel breakfast. Facilities: It's an older hotel, so the facilities are indeed a bit dated. Cleanliness: I prefer to wipe things down with my own wipes, but it all seemed pretty clean. Environment: Close to the ancient city and Parkson (a department store), the surroundings are nice, but room soundproofing is just okay. Service: Warm and attentive. Single bathhouse ticket: A Northern-style public bath. Late-night congee service: Didn't try it, no delivery available."

This Datong hotel features parking on site. Our guests rate this hotel as one of the best hotels for cleanliness. This hotel is a popular accommodation for guests traveling with families.

"The carpet hygiene was poor. Breakfast was a nightmare. The restaurant was huge and chaotic, with no host to seat guests. It was a free-for-all, with people scrambling for tables and often sharing, which was very unfriendly. The breakfast quality was mediocre. Plates often ran out and weren't refilled, and the coffee was terrible. The specialty lamb offal noodles were decent, but most other items were pre-made and tasted very average. However, the hotel hardware was top-notch, with luxurious decor. The rooms were large and spacious, and the design was very practical. But the staff... honestly, it's hard to describe. I stayed for three days and don't typically remove my key card, but every day the staff would take it out. 😅 The first night, the water temperature wasn't hot enough. Perhaps the hotel was fully booked, but my child kept complaining about the cold during their shower. As someone from the North, I found the room temperature comfortable, just a bit dry."

"During the Chinese New Year, I chose this hotel for my family and it was my second time staying here. The hotel is very clean, quiet, and has an antique charm. It's located within the ancient city walls, very close to all the attractions. Just a few steps from the hotel, you'll find Huayan Temple and Chunyang Palace. There's a church next to the hotel, and walking through its courtyard leads you straight to the Nine-Dragon Wall and Daiwang Mansion. For dining, the hotel is also conveniently close to popular spots like Xidao Noodle, Fenglin Pavilion, Laochai Sliced Noodles, Zini, and Longjuxiang, making meals very accessible. The hotel owner was incredibly welcoming; she even brought an additional staff member to help us with our luggage, fearing we had too much. My family thoroughly enjoyed their stay at this hotel over the New Year."

"The hotel is brand new with modern facilities, and parking is super convenient if you're driving. It's spotlessly clean, and the breakfast spread is great with a good variety, especially the coffee which is delicious. Both the staff and housekeeping were very polite and courteous. The hotel is about 4km from the old town, so it's nice and quiet around here. If you don't have a car, taxis in Datong are probably quite affordable. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay and offered great value for money."

"Fantastic lodging. Best value I have had in dozens of stays. Clean, classy and large room with huge window to the main streets. Nice little hip cafe in the same hallway on the same floor. Nice bathroom, great bed. The location is also fine, even though it is a kilometer or so to the city walls. The naming Old town guesthouse isn’t much correct, but it doesn’t matter for the overall impression of this hotel."

"Summary: Not as good as Yungang Grand Hotel, and far inferior to other Four Points by Sheraton hotels I've stayed at. Let's start with the positives. The hotel decor is quite new, and they offer triple family rooms. Breakfast was decent, and there's a gym. However, the stay experience was very poor. First, the soundproofing is quite bad. I could clearly hear noises from the corridor and outside the window. I couldn't sleep without earplugs. Secondly, the room was very hot and I had to open the window to cool it down. Thirdly, why was the staff attitude so terrible? 3.1 I wrote some suggestions in the in-room comment book, but no one bothered to respond. I understand if they can't meet the suggestions, but at least a reply would be nice. 3.2 After checking in, no one told me I needed to scan a QR code for parking and then go to the front desk for a refund. They asked for a payment record, but the ETC record isn't real-time, so I hadn't replied to the front desk. Then, in the evening, they chased me for the record, only to tell me in the end that parking only accepts WeChat Pay, not ETC?! Why couldn't they just tell me that upfront? What was the point of all that hassle? 3.3 For a triple family room, they only provide two breakfasts. In the morning, I forgot and went to eat with my parents, only to be stopped publicly (though even if I wasn't stopped, there was no space in the restaurant). I suggest the hotel consider offering an extra breakfast for family rooms (they could learn from Yungang Grand Hotel, which offers four breakfasts with a booking)."

"My stay here truly exceeded all expectations! The facilities were exceptional. Not only did the room have all the basic amenities, but it also thoughtfully included a direct drinking water system, so I could just turn on the tap and drink – so convenient and healthy, what a pleasant surprise! 😍 The cleanliness was also absolutely reassuring. Every corner of the room was spotless, and the bedding was pristine white with no strange odors. It made for a very comfortable stay; I have to give it a huge thumbs up! 👍 And the environment was simply fantastic. Both the interior design of the room and the decor of the hotel's public areas exuded elegance and warmth, making me feel as relaxed and at home as if I were in my own house. 🌿 The service deserves special praise. The staff maintained a warm and attentive attitude from check-in to check-out, and their smiling service was incredibly refreshing. The biggest surprise was that, since it was the off-season, the hotel proactively upgraded us to an Executive Room for free! The view was more expansive, and the facilities were even better – truly thoughtful! 🥳 There was also a lovely late-night snack service from 9 PM to midnight. The complimentary pear soup was sweet and soothing, and drinking a bowl on a slightly chilly evening warmed me right up. It was a moment full of happiness! 🍐 Furthermore, the hotel guaranteed a late check-out until 4 PM. For travelers like us who enjoy sleeping in or have a more relaxed itinerary, this is incredibly accommodating – no need to worry about rushing at all! ⏰"

"The hotel lobby is impressive, clearly a renovated old hotel but doesn't feel dated. The breakfast restaurant has a great ambiance, and the abundant breakfast is definitely worth trying, with waterside seating available. The bedroom is spacious and generally clean, with smart home features throughout, which is very convenient. The toiletries, tissues, and slippers are all high-quality, and the shower water pressure is excellent. The soundproofing in the room is also good. The only drawback is that the carpet is a bit old. The Fenglin Pavilion downstairs has delicious food, and they even give out vouchers. The complimentary bathhouse isn't worth visiting; it's very small. It's definitely worth the price during the off-season; for under 600, it's impeccable."

The hotel enjoys a prime location in the heart of Datong's ancient city, offering convenient transportation. Datong Yungang Airport is a 25-minute drive away, while Datong High-Speed Railway Station is a quick 10-minute taxi ride away. A wealth of dining options are available nearby: a 100-meter walk will take you to Parkson Plaza and the surrounding food streets, where you can savor Datong's signature knife-cut noodles and oat noodle soup. Nearby are the time-honored Fenglinge and the century-old Gulou Snacks. Alternatively, explore Gulou West Street and Heyang Street for local delicacies like donkey meat biscuits, copper hot pot, lamb skewers, and lamb offal soup. Popular destinations are also within easy reach: the Datong Ancient City Wall, Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Screen, and Shanhua Temple are all within easy walking or short trip. A 30-minute drive will take you to the Yungang Grottoes, where you can experience the profound charm of this ancient capital. Part of the mid-to-high-end brand under the Totoro Hotel brand, the hotel blends wabi-sabi and Song Dynasty styles, creating an elegant, tranquil, and stylish ambiance. Soft colors and a minimalist layout allow guests to find a quiet space to soothe and relax amidst the rich cultural atmosphere of the ancient capital. Datong on the Clouds offers a refreshing and relaxing journey.

"The room is clean and tidy, with a complete Japanese-style decor. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a great view of the ancient city. The large TV also has a projection function. It's very convenient for dining nearby, with Old Chai's Noodles and Sunji Baozi chain stores, and Beiwei Family Feast is also very close. The accommodation price is quite affordable, highly recommended!"

GGuest UserI can’t stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

GGuest UserThis hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is! The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup. The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained. Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserSpent a most enjoyable 5-day stay here. The owners are really nice -- they not only surprised us with a welcome fruit platter but also sent another one on another day. When we had to wake up super early on one of the days, they actually cooked 2 hard boil eggs for us to pack for breakfast (despite us saying no the night before as we didn't wish to trouble them). The husband also sent us via his car to a nearby pick-up point that we had to assemble at 5.40am. This is a very nicely done up place, well-maintained and very clean too. Good quality toiletries provided, comfortable bed, bathroom with a shower cubicle, water that is hot enough, even a toilet bowl. Great location -- there're rows of different types of shops nearby but it's still surprisingly quiet despite our room facing the road with a balcony, there're 2 cafes nearby, a nearby eatery that sells the most delicious 'shao bing' (crispy skin pastry with meat in it) - it's freshly made when one orders and a adjoining noodle stall that serves noodles that's quite OK too. It's just opposite the Hua Yan Si temple - one of the must-visit on the list of places in Datong. Hua Yan temple is also located in a huge square with more shops and food. From the front door of the homestay, turn right and walk all the way down abt 15-20mins, go through the ancient walls and then cross the road, you'll find Parkson mall there - a huge modern mall with all your usual F & B + shops that you'll find in these malls, supermarket, etc. The bus-stop to Yun Gang Grottoes is also nearby. A new landmark that makes it easy to locate this charming homestay : a new huge pink bunny with the Chinese characters of Datong on a green artificial grass patch, that is located just abt 200m away from its main entrance.

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay Location: - Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring. - 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town - 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions - 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets. I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around. Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major. Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening. Room: The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift) Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set! Service: - Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate. - Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge. - I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me. - Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here - Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed. I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

黄善博The hotel was the priciest that we stayed at during our 45 days in China, though the beds, space, and bathroom were the nicest out of them all. For the price, I would’ve hoped that the staff would’ve been a bit more helpful—no elevator and many bags to carry up the three flights of stairs was really quite difficult. The staff also don’t speak any English at all, and my friend doesn’t speak any Chinese, and we didn’t really understand that you needed to put down a deposit of 100rmb that would then be refunded to you (or that they needed a Chinese phone number too; I didn’t have one, and as a foreigner traveling through China, if I had been by myself or didn’t know or have any Chinese friends with Chinese numbers, I would’ve been unable to check-in). The hotel was very nice nonetheless. Fantastic location, very close to everything. The walk to the old city wall took about an hour, and would’ve been a ten minute taxi ride. The street the hotel is located on is full of lots of local shops and restaurants, and feels very lively during the day. The staff was also very friendly and enjoyed speaking with the foreigner at the hotel (although I had some trouble understanding the Shanxi accent! Jin Chinese is not my strongest!). The WiFi was a bit slow. But the beds were incredible. Huge, clean, soft. Pillows were lovely. Bathroom was huge. Just wish there’d been a bit more service from the front desk. Was a tad weird to get up at 5:50am to go to the Hanging Temple 悬空寺, which is very normal, to see the woman at the front desk asleep… it was fine, but still a bit weird.

RRichard76ukThis weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Great Palace Hotel in Datong, and I must say it was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea. The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing. This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong. What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort, making it a reliable choice for both leisure and business travelers. From check-in to check-out, every aspect of our stay was smooth, relaxing, and enjoyable.
