Lakes|2.43km from Treetop Trek Windermere
I came into the bar, circa 17.30 ish. This time, thankfully the heating was on. But there was no music being played. I ordered some food: Sweet potato fries and buttered corn, plus a pint of Guinness. And further asked; Is it possible to get a couple of poached eggs? I was informed: We are out of eggs. I stay overnight at least once every four to five weeks at this Establishment, and have their 7.30 am breakfast. I also work locally within a similar Establishment and know that the Food supplier’s don’t deliver until circa 8am each morning. Which begs the question: If there’s no eggs at say 17.40 pm, as was confirmed. How are the multitude of breakfast’s which commence at 7.30 am going to be served? Moreover considering that the staff are the same Folk who were employed last year. One would be correct in the presumption that by now there Customer focused skills would be up to industry (Hospitality) norms. But there’s no sense of ‘creating a welcoming experience’. One that is sure to win-over the patrons and procure a good tip. Trust me, I have left tips frequently at the bar to encourage staff who do try. But holistically it’s this old-fashioned unwelcoming English speaking attitude of being in hospitable. I mention ‘English speaking’ because one the acting Cooks today was is an Australian , ie/ Not English as such. I first came across this worker a few months ago. When I again visited the bar and ordered food. As I tucked into my dish, the Skippy approached me and advised: Your eating the wrong dish! I responded, really! Well it was delivered to my table? Rudely Skippy exclaimed into my face: Yes, but now the other person has got to wait for their food! I offered to pay for food, and was advised: That’s not the point! Then Skippy walked away I laughed, thinking to myself: I did try to resolve the mistake. Such is Life 🤪✌️☮️

Compston House B & B

Stayed at Compston House over the Easter weekend. Megan and John are very welcoming and friendly! Our room was clean, tidy and had everything you needed. We parked using the parking pass in the local car park and had no issues. The breakfast options were great and cooked nicely, not sure what they do to their hash browns but they are unreal! 5 stars just for the hash browns. Recommend going to The Priest Hole for dinner if you are staying here, it’s just up the road and incredible food!

The environment is very beautiful, very quiet, luxurious and stylish, clean, and there is also a beautiful fireplace for heating. Breakfast is also a classic English breakfast. It is close to the lake, and it is very convenient to take a walk. Picturesque, less than 10 minutes by car from the train station

This is easily the best place I've had the pleasure to stay at. Straight away I highly recommend. I chose the camping option which is only £12 a night, there are options for rooms and tipis too for very reasonable prices. The staff have been IMMENSELY accommodating. All of my needs have been met beyond my expectations. The location is good. You're about an 18 minute walk from the nearest bus taking you into the town centre. There is plenty of info here on local walks/hikes. It goes without saying you're in a beautiful location. The view of the lake and the mountains to wake up to is absolutely breathtaking. Even if you stayed here for a while and didn't go on any adventures, even if you stayed at the hostel the whole time, its very much worth your while. Even just for that. Food and drink is available, the food is amazing and is well priced. I want to empathise how amazing the staff are, I've had quite a few enquires and favours to ask of them and they've been immediately brilliant. Kind people with beautiful hearts. You WILL be taken care of with great care. It's a family friendly environment, and is quiet from 10pm till 7am. The guests are very respectful too. I couldn't recommend this place more. 😊

We had a great stay here (it's my second time!) - the owner has a brilliant manner for hosting and makes excellent breakfast. Rooms are clean and comfortable and I was very happy to get into bed after a day out walking or swimming. The location is amazing, especially if you are using buses to get around as it is less than a minute's walk. All the shops, restaurants and cinema are also within a few minutes walk and the owner Andy gave me lots of tips and recommendations.
