Red lantern Inn gives the best service among all the hotels I’d stayed so far in China. The owner and his wife picked me up from the Train station 20 min away. The location is superb, inside the old city and located just 5 min walk from the North Gate. The Mansion is so beautiful and well kept for hundreds years old building unless you like everything new or modern.
The best part is Xiao Lei, the sweet and polite inn keeper who’s extremely helpful although we had to use Google translator to communicate. He goes all out of his ways to do anything to make your stay comfortable and your visit enjoyable. He cannot explain how to but the ticket for the Old city, so he walks with me to the office. He also drives an electric truck to deliver my luggages to the north gate and call the taxi for me to the airport.
I’ll definitely come back to stay here if I come visit Pingyaogucheng again. I completely recommend this inn to everyone.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at Leisure Hotel Pingyao. The service was excellent—friendly and attentive staff even picked us up from the city wall, which made getting to the hotel super convenient. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and both meals were absolutely scrumptious! The location is ideal too—just off the main crowded streets, so it's peaceful but still close to everything.
The only minor issue we had was with the air conditioning, which was a bit on the warm side. Even though the outside temperature was in the low tens (Celsius), we prefer sleeping in cooler conditions and had some trouble adjusting the room temperature. That aside, our stay was memorable and very comfortable overall. Highly recommend you to stay at their accommodation!

I like this courtyard-like accommodation environment the most. I have no complaints. From the phone call before arrival to confirm the arrival time, to the pick-up at the city gate, to check-in, tourist guidance, accommodation, breakfast, and check-out, I really have no complaints. I traveled with my husband. I was originally going to Taiyuan, but later I suddenly had the idea of visiting Pingyao Ancient City. It was really worth the trip. The high-speed rail arrived at just 12 o'clock. The normal check-in time is 2 o'clock. I called the hotel to see if there were any rooms available for check-in. The front desk informed us that there were rooms and they could pick us up. After informing us of the location, we were picked up very quickly. Every service staff member had a very good attitude. The front desk sister also gave us a travel map to tell us where to have fun, which saved a lot of time. During the day, my husband and I went to take photos of the Pingyao check-in goddess. At night, we watched the light show and came back late. I didn't expect that there was still a light waiting for us. The aunt asked us kindly if we were back. Every scene in the hotel is especially suitable for taking pictures. There are also free Hanfu to wear. It's great. I slept very well at night. The sister also upgraded our room. The room design is very unique and quiet. There are also small gifts for us. The oranges sent are also very sweet. When I woke up at night, it was breakfast time. The breakfast variety is not much, but there is a very strong feeling in it. You can eat enough. In the end, I didn't eat the beef patties given by the aunt. The uncles and aunts are very polite and enthusiastic. They said that we often eat takeout and want to eat something healthy There are still many places that I haven't praised on this trip, but the experience is already great. Very good location. Within the old town and close to many attractions and to the lower west gate where taxis can drop passengers. Very good services from staff. The hotel was converted from an old mansion which is a tourist attraction in itself. Do note that there are steps between the entrance and most rooms. Also, our room was over two floors. While these steps and stairs do not bother us it is something to note.

GGuest UserThe homestay I stayed in during this trip to Pingyao Ancient City was amazing! The location is great, on the bustling main street of the ancient city. When you go out, you will see the hustle and bustle of the city, and when you go in, you will find a quiet little world. The room is uniquely decorated with wood-carved windows and rattan furniture, and every detail is carefully thought out. The boss is very enthusiastic, like an old friend who has not seen each other for a long time. He not only shares authentic food tips, but also helps plan routes to must-see attractions. In my free time, I can make a pot of tea and bask in the warm sun, which is extremely comfortable. Very cost-effective, complete and clean facilities. I sincerely recommend this place to friends who come to Pingyao Ancient City. It is like a ”home away from home”!

I really think this is the best performance I have ever seen. It is the first time I watched it on the move. The interaction between the actors, including the dialogue, dance, and monologue, each one was refreshing to me. I may prefer this way of watching compared to sitting on the stage. Especially at the end, when everyone took their bows, my eyes went red, and when I heard their real names, I applauded them from the bottom of my heart. AAReally nice place, but as for most hotels, you cannot expect the staff to speak English (not a problem for me, but if you don't speak any Chinese be prepared). Location is great as it is around 2 minutes walk from 南大街/South Street and all the main museums and courtyards. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making time to explain all the places to see and were to eat. They can even help with good discounts, e.g. for the historical-themed performance '又见平遥'/Encore Pingyao as well as for restaurants.
The hotel is in a beautiful traditional courtyard, very quiet area so you will sleep well at night. The room has traditional furniture, adding to the atmosphere, and while small (but good value for the price) was comfortable. The bed is a so-called 'kang' with heating - it was so comfortable in the cold winter that it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! Part of the floor has heating too. The cleanliness is good too. I would really recommend this place, very good atmosphere and with everything you need to be comfortable.

TTzurThis lovely hotel gets 6 out of 5 stars!! It is located a 5 min. Walk from the main street, not too far of the gate where you can catch a taxi to the train station. However the hotel organised a pickup from the gate, which they did not charge for. The room is probably the best room we have rented ever, definitely in this price range you won't find a better one. It was super clean, new, huge comfortable bed, everything was working as advertised. The bathroom is super modern with the most advanced toilet. Outside the room is a lovely sitting or smoking area where you can chill. The host is really attentive and friendly, perfect. I can recommend this hotel, you won't be disappointed!!

MMandyI have to say this is the best accomodation in my entire Shanxi trip in which i stayed in 5 facilities. I truly appreciate the service provided, i got what i needed in a timely manner. As a solo traveller in a foreign country (i can speak simple mandarin, but cannot read chinese), i was glad that the proprieter could pick me up from Pingyaoguzhen station. Although i initiated the request, from then on, about 5 minutes before the train arrived Pingyao, he was proactive to send me a voice message on wechat when he arrived at the station and shared a photo to identify himself. The journey was 15 minutes in the car, followed by a tuk tuk as cars are not allowed to enter the ancient city during the day. The point of entry to the facility is via the north gate, it is a 3 minutes walk to Ma family mansion and about 10 minutes walk to the centre of the ancient city where most of the good restaurants are located. I booked a traditional chinese design room on the ground floor with the dragon-phoenix bed and another day bed. I did not ask, but i guess the facility is an old house that was built more than 100 years ago, there is a sign at the external wall of the homestay that indicate it is a protected building. As it was an old house, i was surprised that the room was clean, just the bathroom was slightly deteriorated (there is no separation of wet vs dry). The blanket in traditional dragon & phoenix design and traditional pillows with seed-like fillings were clean and odourless, i was so glad. Although the mattress was quite thin, it was not hard, i was glad. The proprieter gave me a map and explained the layout of the old city how to get around, where to eat, and help arranged shared car to Qiao family mansion. Upon checking out, i was given a bottle of locally brewed vinegar. The proprieter was not around when i left, he sent me voice message to arrange transport for my trip to the train station. I actually felt sorry when i told him that i booked another place in the more happening area of the ancient city (south gate) after checking out from his place. There are many buggy cars operating in the ancient city, charging ¥10/trip, you can tell the driver your desired destination and he/she will drop you at the door step or the closest drop off point if that area is not accesible.

It is reasonably priced, a bit out of the very center (meaning also out of tourists crowds that can be quite noisy in the evenings and mornings), but still close, has same old-style design as the more popular and well-established places that cater to foreigners, but priced twice as much. Pick-up and drop off service is provided - just contact the hotel in advance via phone using the reception of tour previous hotel - no one speaks English - it will solve your communication issue if you do not speak Chinese. At the place itself everyone is very eager to help - use your phone app to translate. Onwer helped me to buy tickets to Pingyao attractions and Terracota Army as I was heading to Xian next (available only through WeChat Pay that is in turn is not availablefor foreign tourists as of April 2023). If you go to Shuanglin temple, be sure to ask to buy tickets through WeChat for you as well. I was able to buy physical one by pure compassion of local guard who asked the staff to open ticket office just for me (Probably was the only foreigner in Pingyao at a time). Please also note that as of April 2023, the reconstruction works in the historical city parts are continuing, so, large chunks of the city within the walls are not looking as great as it could have been. The very center of the city is mostly untouched though and you can still come and explore. If going in spring, be prepared for the temperature swings. I got a temperature drop from 28C to 3C within 2 days by the moment I got to Pingyao. It was even snowing at night.

The owner and his family were very hospitable and took the initiative to introduce us to the surrounding environment and the characteristics and tour routes of tourist attractions. They prepared delicious breakfast for us on time every morning. They helped us solve various needs. When we left, they also contacted a car to take us to the station. For this, I sincerely thank the owner Gong and his family of Pingyao Garden Inn, and look forward to coming to Pingyao again next time.

We took the high speed train arrived at Pingyaocheng station which is around 15 minutes away from the ancient city. If the taxi was to dropped us off it’ll be a short walk but the driver dropped us off near the hotel because cars are not allowed within the main streets.

With roots to China but raised up in the US since I was 7 years old. I’ve seen Chinese movies but nothing will prepare you to the hotel and the ancient city. I was surprised how big the hotel complex was. All the staff were very nice, the main host spoke English, and the breakfasts were traditional Chinese breakfast. We stayed two nights and we felt safe throughout our visit. My wife and daughter appreciated the three hotel cats and all the felines throughout the city.
I’m sure the other hotels are fantastic and will give your a unique experience but I can vouch for Yundingxuan. Just be prepared to get out your comfort zone but be amazed by the visual and taste of Pingyao Ancient City.

PPanPivoI must highly recommend this wonderful hotel in the historic centre of Pingyao. The hotel is really authentic, well equipped, the room was beautiful and I didn't miss anything during my stay. The owner is very nice and helpful, he was able to help me with everything. The front desk is guarded by a small, beautiful dog who gives you a proper greeting. Everything is a short walk from the hotel yet it is in a quiet area where you won't be disturbed. Not choosing this hotel for my stay would be a big mistake. Thank you very much

Tento nádherný hotel v historickém centru města Pingyao musím vřele doporučit. Hotel je opravdu autentický, dobře vybavený, pokoj byl krásný a během pobytu mi nic nechybělo. Majitel je velmi milý a ochotný, se vším mi dokázal pomoci. Recepci hlídá malý, krásný pejsek, který vás náležitě přivítá. Vše je kousek od hotelu a přitom je v klidné oblasti, kde vás nebude nikdo rušit. Nevybrat si tento hotel pro svůj pobyt by byla velká chyba. Moc děkuji

KKeaiderenzailvxingThe room was very clean. It was a great experience to experience Shanxi's Tukang culture. The air conditioner and shower water were very powerful. The location of the inn is excellent. It is in the city center, quiet in the bustle. It is not far from various attractions and famous restaurants in the ancient city. You will not have to worry about safety issues if you come back late at night. The owner of the inn was very nice. He helped us book tickets for the performance of ”Seeing Pingyao Again” before we arrived. When we arrived, he was very enthusiastic to help us with directions and introduce the features of the ancient city. The little brother from the inn also helped us pick up and drop off our luggage. Every night when we return to the inn, no matter how late it is, we can see the boss waiting for us at the door. The boss said that we should wait until all the guests have returned to the inn before sleeping. He is a very responsible and warm-hearted boss, which is great. The small courtyard of the inn is kept clean and hygienic, and you can leisurely drink a cup of Kung Fu tea, which is very relaxing. Next time I come to Pingyao Ancient City, I will choose to stay here again.
