Flying regularly or even occasionally? A Frequent Flyer Number helps you earn points or miles on every flight you take. Let’s find out what it is, how to find yours, and how to make the most of it.
What is a Frequent Flyer Number?
A Frequent Flyer Number (FFN) is a unique ID linked to an airline’s loyalty programme. You receive it when you sign up (free of charge) with an airline. Each time you book or check in for a flight, adding this number allows the airline to track your travel and award you points or miles.
These points or miles build up over time and can be redeemed for a wide range of rewards such as free flights, cabin upgrades, hotel stays, car hire, or other travel perks. Even if you don’t fly often, using one loyalty programme consistently can bring long-term benefits.
When booking with Trip.com, you can enter your Frequent Flyer Number during checkout so the airline can credit your miles automatically. You’ll also earn Trip Coins on top once your trip is completed.

What Can You Spend Airline Miles/Points On?
Reward Type | What You Get | Notes |
Flights | Book free or discounted flights with your airline or partner airlines. | The most popular use. Value can vary depending on route and demand. |
Upgrades | Move from Economy to Premium Economy, Business, or First Class. | Great value if available. Some fares may need to be booked first. |
Seat Selection | Use miles to pay for extra legroom or preferred seats. | Convenient, but often not the best value. |
Lounge Access | Buy single-entry lounge passes or annual lounge memberships. | Ideal for long waits or connections. |
Hotel Stays | Redeem miles for hotel bookings through the airline’s partners or portal. | Compare with cash rates – value can vary a lot. |
Use miles to book hire cars with partner companies. | Again, check cash prices to make sure it’s worth it. | |
Shopping & Vouchers | Spend miles on gift cards or items via the airline’s online shop. | Usually the worst value – better if you no longer plan to fly. |
Priority Services | Access priority check-in, boarding, or baggage handling with status levels. | Available mainly with higher loyalty tiers. |
Extra Baggage | Free checked baggage or higher weight limits. | Often linked to status in the programme. |
Alliance Benefits | Earn and spend miles across partner airlines within global alliances. | Handy if you fly with different carriers under Star Alliance, oneworld, etc. |
Airport Transfers: Use code GELLNXVZJU to enjoy 10% off your first airport transfer or save 12% when booking with flights.
Global Airline Frequent Flyer Programs & Rules
Airline loyalty schemes keep changing, but the basics stay the same:
- Your Frequent Flyer Number (FFN) is personal.
- Miles or points earned are yours to spend, often even on tickets for friends or family.
- You must enter your FFN when booking to collect points.
- Many airlines now give miles based on how much you spend (not just distance flown), and the number of points needed for rewards can change with demand.
Always check the latest rules on your airline’s website.
