The hotel was very modern and clean. In addition the evening meal was great value for money and the black pudding at breakfast was divine. Similarly the rooms were very pleasing and the beds were luxurious. Word of advice though, watch out for the breakfast lady with purple hair. A fair number of my travelling party experienced her lack of customer service, even our coach driver mentioned it, making a joke of it on the bus tannoy. Despite this, all other staff were great and the hotel is a great place. We'll worth a visit.

The lighting in the whole building is very subtle. Nice and relaxing music and atmosphere. Only one hand and bath towel in the bathroom and, although there were more in the bottom of the bed, we were unaware of where to find these until we checked out. I was in the shower before I realised there wasn’t a second towel and it was too late to phone reception. Booking had 2 names for the room so we would have expected adequate towels in the bathroom or visible in the room rather than under the bed.

Came here for the wake after my father in laws funeral. The hotel is spotless, beautiful views and the food was lovely. The majority of staff were pleasant however after a few hours we sensed they needed the room back so we moved to the main bar to get out the way. The lady behind the bar looked annoyed every time we asked for drinks which I found quite odd. Not friendly at all. We were then shouted at to be quiet by an elderly couple who choose to sit beside us when the entire rest of the bar was empty. Very distressing for the family, some of us hadn’t seen each other in years & were swapping stories about the deceased. Anyway over all nice place, just made to feel uncomfortable towards the end which wasn’t very nice after what we had just been through. Hoping my review will help towards this not happening in the future.

The staff are excellent, very friendly and ensure your stay is enjoyable. The rooms in the hotel need updating; I would not choose to stay at the hotel again due to the rooms being quite basic for a 4*, and no safe in the room either. The restaurant area is nice. The bar area could do with an open fire, which would be in keeping with the property and, due to the bar's location can be quite cool. I found the lockers difficult to use; there are no instructions when trying to use them, only in the reception area. I did ask someone to show me, but they were too busy apparently, so I asked another customer to help me. There was no concession for late checkout on New Year's Day; however, upon request, this was granted. You also have to book for breakfast; therefore, on New Year's Day, I had to get up for 9 am to go down to breakfast, which was not ideal. I had paid for the trip online when I booked; however, when I came to checkout, I was charged the full amount again and was informed that there was no log that I had already paid, but when we arrived and checked in, it was acknowledged that I had paid, it was a good job that I had the email displaying that I had paid. Upon further investigation by the hotel, it was noted that I had paid. I thought that I had read somewhere that there was an option for a set menu for NYE, but al a carte was still an option however this was not the case. The food was ok. The stay was made better due to the friendliness of the bar and restaurant staff, all credit to them.

Just returned from a 2 night spa break to celebrate my wifes 40th birthday. Overall the experience was good, from the title of my review there are elements that i felt there were parts of this that made me question its overall 4* rating The spa, gym and swimming pool were excellent (My wife had treatments over the 2 days and felt they were very good), she did mention that one day one the relaxation room wasnt the most relaxing due to a group of other guests talking quite loudly about things you probably want to avoid discussing when in a relaxation room. Her therapist had to also quicky leave to be sick (the girl was very apologetic on her return and i guess sometime these things happen. For me the gym was very well equipped and with a good standard and great variety for various skill levels, a few minor things, the 2 sessions i had in the gym over the days, not once did any of the instructors walk the gym floor and i happened to observe a few people who appeared unsure of equipment use (i work in the fitness industry and that in itself is an issue for me) on approach to the leisure facility door there is a plaque stating that all instructors are REPS registered, again as someone in this industry, Reps no longer exist and haven't for at least 2 years, they were bought over by CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the management of sports and physical activity) These things probably don't matter on the whole to some but they were things i picked up on and are small details that elevate the status of a gym/leisure facility. The food was very good, definitely no complaints, the staff were always polite and attentive, no issues at all on this front and is probably where the hotel scored its best for me. If i could comment on one thing my wife and i happened to be privvy to some of the younger staff's personal conversations at times, i would not say some were discreet in this I initially called ahead prior to travelling and requested a bottle of champagne in the room due to the occasion, this was not there upon arrival, and we were placed in a twin room despite booking a double, in that we had to take our cases down and get rechecked in etc and then back up, the room mix up i had no issues with but was a bit annoyed with the fact i requested something to make the arrival special and despite the reception staff noting this at the time of the call it wasn't done (again the small details that can elevate a person's experience, needless to say i did request this again to which they ended up sending a bottle of prosecco instead of champagne, at that point i wasn't in the mood to dial up and switch it over. The room i felt was what let the experience down, a definite 3 star room, very tired and nothing like advertised, chips and scuffs on the walls, some rust in the bath along side some dirty shower seals, and just very dated furniture with the token yellow discoloured phone.
