4-Star Hotels in Macau

My parents brought their grandchildren to Macau Peninsula, and they wanted a hotel that offered shopping, dining, and easy access to UNESCO World Heritage sites. Grand Emperor Hotel Macau was undoubtedly a highly cost-effective choice. The hotel is situated in the heart of Avenida Comercial, boasting a grand and striking European palace-style exterior, with its crown emblem being instantly recognizable. The hotel's location is its biggest asset. It's right next to New Yaohan Department Store, making shopping and buying souvenirs incredibly convenient. Within about a ten-minute walk, you can reach the shopping landmark of Senado Square (Sena Square). Grand Lisboa and Wynn Macau are also just a stone's throw away. Objectively, the hotel has been open for a while, so some facilities show signs of age, and the decor is quite traditional. During peak times, the breakfast area can get crowded. However, these minor drawbacks don't overshadow its advantages. Its irreplaceable central location on the peninsula perfectly balances comfortable accommodation with excellent travel convenience.

Quiet and **-free, sleep-friendly. This hotel is **-free, meaning no noisy crowds, no smoke, and no loud background music. It's the top choice for those who dislike a ** atmosphere, families with children, business travelers, and early sleepers. Guest rooms generally receive excellent reviews for soundproofing.

✅ **Room Amenities:** The room was immaculately clean, spacious, and never felt cramped. The bedding was fluffy and soft, and the building's soundproofing was excellent. Even after long days of sightseeing, I enjoyed a great night's sleep every night. The entire room was equipped with a full set of L'Occitane herbal toiletries, so there was no need to bring my own – a thoughtful detail that really made a difference. ✅ **Location and Facilities:** The hotel is located on the outskirts of the Taipa resort area, not in the bustling city center, but the amenities are more than sufficient. The ground floor of the complex offers a wide variety of dining options, from simple meals to snacks, so you can easily eat without leaving the premises. The T435 bus stop is right outside the hotel, and the MT4 bus is downstairs, providing direct access to the Macau Peninsula. It's very convenient for getting to areas like the Red Market and the Ruins of St. Paul's. ✅ **Accessibility:** In addition to public transport, catching a taxi outside the hotel is also very easy. Trips to popular spots like Wynn Palace, The Londoner, and Cunha Street usually cost around 20-30 MOP, and the journey time is moderate. Whether by taxi or bus, you have a lot of freedom to explore. Considering the room type, environment, toiletries, and travel costs, this hotel avoids the high prices of the core commercial areas and is budget-friendly. For a leisurely trip to Macau, I highly recommend it as a base.

The hotel is beautiful and conveniently located, with clean public areas. The breakfast is more Western-style, so those who prefer Chinese stir-fries, fried rice, noodles, or steamed dim sum might find it less to their liking. We were fine with it and found enough to eat. As for service: housekeeping was decent, front desk service was secondary, and restaurant service was extremely average, with overly salty dishes for some reason. The room noise was a major issue – constant sounds of running water from pipes, air conditioning, and what sounded like furniture being dragged from upstairs or downstairs, which continued intermittently until late at night. The hairdryer quality didn't match the hotel's caliber, which was a poor experience. Overall, the service isn't as good as hotels in Taipa and definitely needs improvement, especially in guest-facing details, where there's a significant gap. This might be due to language barriers with the foreign staff.

This was my first time staying at an Ascott hotel, and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. The front desk staff were professional, warm, and attentive, making me feel right at home. The biggest surprise was getting two complimentary breakfasts (simple but tasty!). The hotel is apartment-style, equipped with a coffee machine, induction cooker, washing machine, and even dishes and cutlery, so you can do laundry and cook. The drinks in the fridge were also complimentary. The hotel's location is convenient, right across from the MGM. Traveling after the May Day holiday, the price was fantastic 😎. I hope to find such great prices again for future stays.

The room was quite spacious, and there were plenty of power outlets, which was very convenient as no adapters were needed. The hotel staff were all very enthusiastic and helpful. The location is excellent, just a short distance from the Grand Lisboa. We took a shuttle from Grand Lisboa Palace, where we had dinner and shopped, then caught another shuttle to Grand Lisboa, and it was just a 5-minute walk to the Metropark Hotel. There are restaurants next to the hotel, and on Rua de Outubro, behind the hotel, there's a bus that goes directly to the Border Gate, making transportation very convenient. It's also a leisurely 10-15 minute walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's. I haven't included internal photos as they are quite standard; the exterior shots provided were taken from inside the room, offering a wide, open view. The complimentary bottled water was a bit too small.

The hotel is located on a slope, so getting up and down is very steep and would be quite difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The bus stop is close to the hotel, but again, the climb is challenging. The room was spacious, and I was pleased to find an iron and ironing board. The hotel has a cozy, Portuguese style. There's a small pool, which the kids enjoyed. Breakfast was modest, with coffee in a thermos, but you won't go hungry. We walked to the sea to swim but decided against going in. The water was very murky, and there were dead fish floating around. Only a couple of Chinese tourists were on the beach. Housekeeping was very poor; all the towels and bedding should be replaced. Everything was old and worn out, and the duvet covers were synthetic. There was mold in the bathroom. And the icing on the cake – a huge, 5cm cockroach ran in and scared the children.

This hotel in Macau is quite good. There are affordable small restaurants just a two-minute walk downstairs, where you can pay with Alipay or WeChat. It's about a ten-minute walk to Rua do Cunha, and public transport is also convenient. There are free shuttle buses to Gongbei Port and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Port, but it's a pity they don't offer airport pick-up.

The hotel is within walking distance of the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, which takes around 15–20 minutes even with luggage. There’s also a nearby public bus stop that provides convenient access to the Cotai area. The housekeeping staff were friendly as well. Overall, the stay was good, although the design feels a bit old-school. The in-house ****** has also ceased operations since November 2025.

This hotel definitely has a retro vibe, like something from the 90s. You get what you pay for, after all; the opulent Galaxy is right across the street, but it's double the price. It's about a six-stop light rail ride from the airport to Pai Kok station. From there, you enter Galaxy Entertainment, walk through the lobby, cross the road, and you're there. Getting to the East Asian Games Dome is super convenient, just four stops away! The room is fully carpeted, but thankfully there's no weird smell – it's very clean. The bathroom has a tub, but the showerhead is built into the wall, which is a bit awkward. However, the water pressure is excellent, more than making up for that minor flaw. It's a shame the gym hours are only 10 AM to 6 PM, which isn't ideal for early birds. I ended up going for a morning run instead. To my surprise, a quick left turn led me to the Taipa waterfront, where I could enjoy the scenery while breaking a sweat. My biggest complaint is the breakfast; I honestly don't recommend it. There's hardly anything to eat, but maybe my expectations are just too high. You're better off going to Tsui Wah at Galaxy across the street for their breakfast set, which costs 60 MOP. The cleaning staff were excellent; they brought me bottled water several times without any fuss. Overall, it's a hotel with good value for money!
