The room rate was affordable and included free breakfast. The booking was actually for two people, but I stayed alone.
There are a few areas that could be improved. The room looked quite worn out, and the hygiene could be better. The bedsheet had stains that could not be cleaned off.
The water pressure was also very low. Unfortunately, my room was facing a shop lot with a disco, and the loud music and vibrations continued until around 2am, making it difficult to sleep.
On the positive side, the hotel provided two bottles of water, coffee, toothbrushes, and shower caps. Two small bottles of shower gel and shampoo were also provided, although there was no tissue box in the room.
Security felt good, with a standard hotel door lock system and lift access restricted to room card holders only.
The breakfast was good, with a standard Malaysian-style selection. Considering the room rate, it felt quite generous.
They also provide basement parking, which is very convenient for guests traveling by car.
I researched a lot of hotels in Ipoh. Most hotels are spread out around the Ipoh “downtown”.
If you’re arriving on a bus from KL, the bus terminal Amanjaya is 9km away. 20 mins on the local bus will take you to Terminal Kidd and it’s a 15 mins walk to M Boutique. I wouldn’t suggest this option if you have a lot of suitcases as the walk is on the main roads with cars and truck zipping past.
Location is surrounded by industrial and car dealerships, but once arrived you’re surprised! They live up to their name - Boutique! They have been in that location for 13 years.
Staff are friendly and helpful! Room (single room with no windows) was clean and comfortable and provided the amenities after a long day on the bus. And the hotel - SMELLED nice. Like a high end hotel.
It was a nice treat if you’re a solo traveler looking for comfort on a budget. I tried to extend an extra night, however Trip were only showing double and twin rooms - out of my budget for a solo traveler.
Asking at reception if the single room was available, they checked and I paid directly to hotel for a 2nd night. Your loss Trip!
Hotel amenities were great. Hot shower, WiFi and air conditioning working.
It’s a 10-15 min walk to the old city. When I arrived around 4 PM, a lot of things are already closed and quiet.
Walking around in the dark back to the hotel was a little uneasy, but you can easily just arrange a car to GRAB.
Highly recommended!
Newly renovated with great self-service check in system, though some details need attention.
Overall, I really liked the newly renovated room. The self-service process is seamless, and the message guidelines are very clear—though the video quality could be improved, it was still easy enough to understand.
A few things to note:
Parking: The underground car park doesn't have a direct link to the main building (likely because it's an older building that was refurbished).
Room Details: The bedsheets were worn to the point of pilling ,and the curtain holder fell off during my stay, possibly due to the wall material.
Despite these minor maintenance issues, I was satisfied with the renovation details. Everything still feels very fresh and new!
The hotel's strengths are the spacious rooms and the presence of a bathtub, making for a generally comfortable stay. The cleanliness was acceptable and met basic standards, but the overall environment was quite ordinary, with nothing particularly special about it.
The only minor letdown was the service details: even though we booked a triple room, they only provided two sets of toothbrushes and bath towels. We were even charged an extra RM5 for an additional bath towel, which was a bit disappointing.
Overall, if you're looking for a short stay and prioritize space and basic comfort, this hotel is a decent option, but there's room for improvement in terms of service details.
Cititel Express - Great Value in a Prime Location!
I had a pleasant stay at Cititel Express. While the rooms are not particularly spacious, they are very clean and well-maintained.
The staff were courteous, friendly, and genuinely helpful — they even allowed us an early check-in, which was much appreciated.
The hotel has a convenience store on-site, which is super handy. Location-wise, it’s excellent! Just a 5-minute walk to Concubine Lane, with plenty of eateries and attractions nearby, including the Han Chin Pet Soo Museum, Ho Yan Hor Museum, and the beautiful 22 Hale Street Heritage Gallery. The Kinta River is right across the road, making for a nice view and easy stroll.
The room was equipped with all the essentials: a good fridge, safe, powerful cold air-conditioning, and excellent water pressure in the shower.
Overall, a solid choice if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable, and well-located hotel in Ipoh. Highly recommended!
Ok hotel I’m great location outside of taiping
Breakfast was good
Didn’t have water for the first hour of stay but was sorted , but ran brown for a while
Corridors were very tired and tatty but renovations were on going
Construction waste outside of balcony
I had a wonderful and peaceful stay at Tambun Retreat Ipoh. The place is very quiet, relaxing, and surrounded by beautiful nature, which makes it perfect for a short getaway away from the busy city. The room was clean, comfortable, and well prepared when we arrived. I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the greenery around the property. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay, which made the experience even better. Overall, it was a lovely and relaxing stay. I would definitely recommend Tambun Retreat to everyone.
The room was clean and the hotel was new, but I could still hear motorbikes at 2 AM. Despite that, I was satisfied and will definitely book again if I return to Taiping.
Location within 10mins walking distance to tourist spots.
Shower water was good enough.
Cleanliness needs to be much improved. The bed sheet and blanket were not cleaned and stained. The screen of the television was broken.
Roadside parking space was very limited, although a covered “parking garage”provided, the scary and steep narrow entrance need to have a very skilful driving techniques required.
My first impression was quite a grand stallion entrance. Most importantly, nice cozy environment, rooms are clean, well maintained and the kitchen is ready if you intend to start up cooking. Highly recommended to check in for family trip. You can even check out late till 3.00pm.

Very Good
GGuest UserFrom day 1st to last, staffs were very friendly, attentive and service orientated. Kdos to front office team and house keeping who made out stay awesome and memorable. Location would have been a little better if more shopping malls and variety of food selections are nearby. Overall everything else was just perfect for a regular traveler who needs just a comfortable stay with basic needs.
NNzet1996Got a short trip to Ipoh and choose Zone Hotel Ipoh. The location is nice where it is just 15 mins from Ipoh city central and nearby to plaza tol. It feels comfortable to stay with clean room and quiet environment.
GGuest UserThe environment is good but the waterpark only open in the evening. Kids can only enjoy the pool. It will be good if the mini waterpark is open the whole day during weekend. Cleanliness is up to our expectation. Easy to check in and check out.

GGuest UserOverall, it's definitely worth it.
The location is strategic, close to attractions, and it's easy to find food. The room is clean, modern, and the bed is comfortable, although a bit small. It's suitable for short stays or couple trips.
Parking might be limited when it's busy, but during my stay, I managed to park in the basement, so there were no issues.
The staff were friendly, and the check-in process went smoothly.
Conclusion: If you want a clean, comfortable hotel with a great location — it's highly recommended.
