Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Anaheim City Center Anaheim|1.8km from Anaheim Marketplace
We are DVC and bagged a room at the VGC in early August. First thing- the building and lobby and overall vibe are beautiful. The bell person who greeted us was outstanding, Sorry didn’t get his name but he’s 50s, slim guy, and extremely talkative and helpful, the true ‘Disney Difference’ type employee. Check in was a very slow and lengthy experience although the lady was very nice. Queues at 3pm. This could be speeded up. Room wasn’t obtained until just after 4. We had a disappointing outlook room, ground floor, corner, facing directly at back entrance to Californian Adventure. Security guards stood around and no real barrier for privacy so never sat on patio. However, we realised the room had some advantages in that you could be in the park in about 40 steps. Room was nice enough. Would I pay over $1000 a night for it cash? Not worth it but booked on points. They are getting so they need a refurb although still in decent shape. It was all very dark though, perhaps not helped by room position in bottom corner of hotel. Craftsman’s bar was a bit disappointing for food. It was OK quality but very, very slow at coming out. Mine was comped. The bar itself with live music is lovely though and cocktails good. Pool is beautiful but at the same time disappointing. It’s disappointing because there are not enough sun loungers. This is partly due to Disney greed, who have turned over about a third of the already too small pool area to paying cabanas. This is partly due to lack of management. They are meant to have wristbands on people, but half did not have them and half the time there were no staff on the gate to put them on. I personally witnessed at 8am a family coming in the front of the hotel who didn’t seem to be staying there (very easy to get in despite needing a key card as the gate is constantly opened onto the sidewalk) who I saw walk into the pool area, they had no card and waited for gate to open and went in. Disney can see from the reviews on Tripadvisor this pool seating issue is a major problem. They need to do something about it. If that includes removing the cabana area and taking a hit on upcharges, they need to do it. They need to get really strict on pool management and wrist bands. When you are paying this much for a hotel, not being able to get sun beds is totally unacceptable. Shame as pool itself is lovely and live music even in the day. The characters also seemed to plead daily at around 4 pm for a pool party. Gym great. The DVC team here here we’re very nice people. Obviously location is fantastic.

SunCoast Park Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

This hotel looks amazing! The attention paid to the beach theming is unique, down to the coconut sun tan lotion scent in the lobby. Unfortunately, beyond the looks and theming, this hotel doesn't have much going for it. When staying at a hotel there are two things expected: service and comfort. Theming and cleanliness can only take you so far when the service and comfort of the stay are lacking. My family booked our stay through booking.com, a site we've used several times over the years. I messaged the hotel to see if they'd be able to place a crib in our room for our infant son. When I hadn't heard back from the hotel through messaging, I called the front desk to make the arrangement. We were flying into LAX late at night and traveling with young children. To have everything ready, including a crib, would be refreshing after a long day of traveling. Unfortunately, there was no crib in our room. When I told the front desk, the gentleman said there was no record of me calling but did see my message. Frustrating start to our stay. The beds were ok. The king size bed that me and my wife were sleeping in felt ok, but the pull out sofa bed that my son was sleeping on felt terrible! Mattress was uncomfortable, lumpy, and thin. Luckily my son is 4 and didn't have much to say about it. The brief time I laid on the bed, I was shocked at how cheap it felt! The breakfast area looked and felt nice. The weather was amazing so the hotel had opened the over sized doors to that lead to the game and patio area. However, there was only 1 person working the cafe. She looked so overwhelmed! Service was slow and there were several guests that got tired of waiting for a coffee and opted to leave. My family was on the hook to eat at the hotel since we didn't have a car and there wasn't anything close. We overpaid for a simple breakfast that tasted ”ok” at best. Finally, the pool. The pool area looks and feels amazing. But, just like everything else at this property, it only looks nice. The pool water was cold and the hot tub was luke warm. Obviously not everyone in SoCal needs to heat their pools, but isn't a hot tub supposed to be, you know, hot? There was also a chemical issue with the pool that turned my wife's hair slightly green. This happened once before at a cheap hotel in Vegas (a long story), but we never expected it to happen again, much less at a hotel like SunCoast. Overall, this hotel relies on it's looks more than its service and comfort. Your social media pictures next to the pool and VW bus will look great! But behind the façade of the social media postings, you're gonna wish you had stayed somewhere closer to Disneyland that offers breakfast, comfort, and service.

The Location of this hotel is awesome. The customer service is great. The room was clean and the bed was good. However the parking here is horrible. They have to move cars around so you can move your own . They are nice about it, but this is a huge inconvenience if you want to go anywhere you don’t have to walk to. Luckily we only had to move ours twice. The rooms are way to light at night. You might as well leave your lights on because it will seem like you did. The doors are not sealed correctly so light and cold air come through, luckily the air conditioner/ heater to work well. Also the no breakfast is a disappointment but it is what it is. We did not use the pool, it was to cold and rainy but it looked clean and decent.Overall if you are staying here for the location and a very easy walk to Disneyland you are good to go, If you are looking for better amenities this is probably not your hotel. I would stay here again for the location.

If your going to Disneyland this hotel is perfect. Your just across from the entrance and closer than some official Disney hotels. It also has parking which I was really worried about. It was so close we could go back to the room for an hour at midday rest recharge phones and go back in. Will stay again if going to Disney. Only issue no hairdryer in the room and it can be a little noisy at night as people come back from the park.

The hardware is worthy of five stars, and the hotel is quite new. A large bathtub and comfortable shower are especially important after a long day at Disney. The location is also very good. The rooftop bar is nice. If there are fireworks at Disneyland, you can see them. Unfortunately, there weren't any on the day I went. But the hotel service is really average, not even three stars. If you are traveling for business, it may not matter, but if you go on vacation, it will really affect your mood. Personally I feel that the price/performance ratio is not high enough. P.S.: Regarding transportation to Disney, the hotel staff (at least the one I asked) didn’t know, but Disney employees told me that there is actually a shuttle. You can see the screenshot below for details. Note that this is paid. In addition, there is a free shuttle from Disney to a certain Disney parking lot (I think it is toy story parking, if you need it, you can ask the staff at that time). It takes 6 or 7 minutes to walk from this parking lot to the hotel, compared to walking directly. Go back for 15-20 minutes.
