"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

"We booked 4 rooms this time, with 7 people in our group + 1 child. The rooms are very clean and each has its own character and name. There are tatami beds and double beds. A large tatami bed is specially arranged for children, so they can sleep peacefully 😁. The room is fully equipped with various disposable toiletries and an instant water kettle. I especially like the service 👍🏻. The breakfast variety is much richer than we imagined, including eggs, corn, pumpkin, sweet potato, millet porridge, minced meat noodles, small cold dishes, fruits, and they even made cakes for the children. On the first day we arrived at the B&B, the staff came to meet us and help with our luggage. It was raining, and they reminded us that there were umbrellas available at the door. I also boiled some hot water to drink. There is a big solid wooden table in the lobby on the first floor, with fruits and snacks on it. The children were very happy 😄. The inside and outside of the door are carefully decorated with green plants and hydrangeas, which is very comfortable. The geographical location is perfect for our travel, close to the main road, with parking spaces available. When we don't want to drive, we can take a taxi or stroll into the ancient city for shopping and eating. As soon as I went out, I saw the city wall. I went to see the night view on my last night! This time everyone praised the convenient location."

"Absolutely loved our two-day stay at Wantoo B&B! The Tatami Twin Rooms boast two large beds and fantastic natural light, while the Starry Sky Family Room even has a bathtub, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of sightseeing. The B&B's location is also excellent. It's situated within the ancient city yet offers convenient transportation; taxis and ride-sharing services can drop you off right at the entrance. They also provide free bicycles, which are incredibly handy for getting around. It was super convenient to cycle to attractions like Huayan Temple, Drum Tower, Shanhua Temple, and Southeast Yi. The front desk service was absolutely fantastic! For early risers, they thoughtfully prepare packed breakfasts, and fresh-cut fruit is also available. The B&B itself is very quiet and peaceful. Downstairs, there's a beautiful coffee shop, making it ideal for those who enjoy peace and quiet or love to read."

"The room was clean, spacious, and equipped with everything we needed. Whenever we had questions or required assistance, the staff was quick to respond and always friendly. A big thank you to the team for their exceptional support during our stay, especially when our flight got canceled due to bad weather. They were always there to help us with any problems. We can’t wait for our next visit!"

"It was a little difficult to find the place to check in. This was a nice, clean hotel room. We stayed in a family friendly room. The beds were comfortable and there were drawers and a lot of counter space, a desk, end table, and small table. There were 3 extra pillows in a cabinet. There was an access code, so when someone left others weren't left in the dark and checkout was just a matter of sending a message via WeChat. We really liked this hotel!"

"My stay at Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Qiuguo Hotel) was extremely satisfying! 👍 This newly renovated hotel boasts impressive, grand solid wood furniture. It's spotlessly clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. The hotel offers its own underground parking (just turn right after Fuyuan Restaurant to enter the garage), which was incredibly convenient. It's about a 7-minute walk to the ancient city's commercial street, yet the hotel itself is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The ambiance is beautifully characteristic of Shanxi, and the breakfast was incredibly rich and varied – I even took a few photos! I will definitely choose this place again on my next trip to Datong!"

"Strong cigarette smell in the non-smoking floor hallway. Terrible bathroom design, the see through glass door makes it impossible to use the bathroom when you have guests. The bathtub is facing the entrance door in the open space. Obviously no privacy at all for anyone who what’s to use it. The room is not sound proof and you can hear people talking in the hallway and music from somewhere. There were people having their wedding ceremony here and loud firecrackers sound woke me up very early in the morning."

"”I can't recommend this hotel enough! Its location is absolutely perfect for exploring Datong; you're just a short walk from the ancient city wall and countless historical landmarks. The service from the staff was outstanding—they were incredibly professional and friendly. When our booked room wasn't ready before noon, they surprised us with a complimentary upgrade so we could check in immediately, which was a fantastic touch. Our room was spotless, with fresh sheets and towels. We also loved the buffet breakfast, which offered a great variety of both Chinese and international dishes. As a bonus, the free self-service laundry facilities were extremely helpful.”"

"Nanshe surprised us pleasantly in many ways. First the owner of the homestay came personally to pick us up from the high speed rail station and did an introduction of the Datong old city on the way to the homestay. She is very friendly and took great care of us throughout the 3 days we stayed with them. The caretaker of the homestay is also a gem. She took care of all our outbound travels from Datong and even helped to coordinate the courier of my left-behind charger from the previous hotel in Beijing. When we had to leave early for outbound tours, they even packed breakfast for us to take with us. So a big kudos to the Nanshe premium stay and their top notch staff for making our stay in Datong such an enjoyable one. We will be back again!"

"When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges."
