The following is the copy of an email sent a week ago to Britannia hotels main email address. To date, I have received no response but neither did I expect one. - I'd like to tell you of our experience of staying at the Palace Hotel, Buxton. 13th and 14th September, 2022. On arrival at the hotel one cannot fail to be impressed by this fine old building with fitting décor in the entrance lobby and communal area. Unfortunately, this is where the impressiveness ends. Check in – 3 or 4 stations at the reception desk, only 1 manned. Thankfully we were 2nd in line and on glancing behind us when it was our turn saw about 30 people behind us queuing out of the glass doors and back to the revolving door. No welcome from the receptionist and I was quite surprised that when I asked about using my card for charges to our room for wine etc. was told that you pay as you go. Not quite what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Booked a table for dinner – we were booking in at 4 pm but the earliest option for a table was 8.30 pm. Our Room – we had booked an executive twin room and whilst the room was spacious it lacked character and was in fact quite sp**** . We understood that there was no room service but assumed this would be for change of towels, little did we know that there would be no emptying of bin or replenishment of tea/coffee/milk and sugar. No guest information folder in the room, which we would expect to find. Dining – dinner. 4 staff ( I won't give them the title of waiter/waitress/hostess as it would be doing a disservice to those who do this role properly) at the desk at the front of the restaurant and given a menu and taken to a table. We were given to understand that meals were buffet style but the comment from the staff member who had taken us to our table who told us it was self service we found her description was more realistic. In actual fact for the help that was given throughout our stay you might as well have trays situated at the front because the service is more akin to a poorly run motorway service station. That again is giving a disservice as there is a far better selection of food on offer there. We asked for wine menu and were told it was in the menu folder, it wasn't. The staff member said she'd get one, took the menu away and neither were seen again. We opted for soup which we had to help ourselves to from an electric soup tureen, after we asked what it was. After one mouthful, found it was lukewarm so took it back to another staff member who took the soup bowls from me saying she'd tell chef. Well, that helped a lot didn't it as neither of these were seen again either! We had to have the pate or salad as these were the only other things on offer as a starter. Back up to the hot cupboards for our main course – on offer, 1 choice of roast - turkey, fish in sauce which looked as though that had been there for the whole of the service time and a sweet potato curry. We arranged our wedding with Paige from the weddings team at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble from start to finish, and any questions we had were answered throughout the process and on the run up to the wedding and very accommadating when we needed to change any details or ask opinions . We stayed on the night prior to the wedding and from arrival the staff could not do enough for us and other family members with our party, the weddings team were amazing food was fantastic and they all made the day very special, especially Eamon our Master of Ceremonies who guided us through the day and thought of everything to ensure any worries were taken away throughout the day!

Great airport hotel. The room was clean and nice. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The included breakfast was good. The hotel isn’t really within walking distance of the airport, an Uber is £10 but the hotel is much cheaper in comparison to the Radisson inside the airport.

I was surprised after reading reviews I wasn't expecting much but yes it did have a bit of a smell in the room but everywhere was bright and cheerful the staff where fantastic and food great.. slightly annoyed at paying £7 for WiFi in the room but it was a fair price for the hotel and taxi to the airport was booked for me the cost was £15 The door to the room had to be slammed and I think this was a problem with alot of them judging by the constant slamming of Doors throughout the night but all in all not as terrible As expected also a nice location not too noisy and actually some grounds to walk in ..don't be put off by reviews if you want cheap and cheerful.

I discovered this hidden gem by accident. I had almost given up on finding a hotel that was close enough to the airport as well as to local shopping and had ac. There are only two things I have a problem with in regards to this place. Please note there is not an elevator or lift as the UK states. The other draw back is there is no way to shield the light in the bathroom area. It is hard to describe. There is a beautiful glass door to the right and left in the bath area with a sink in the middle of the space. If one has to get up to use the facilities the light being turned on glares in the face of the other one in bed. One other note is to be careful when closing the glass door. When I closed the door, my finger got closed in the door and it actually cut my finger below the cuticle. After 3 days, my finger is blue and sore. While the hotel is directly under the local airport's flight pattern, we never heard planes unless we were outside. The grounds are astounding as is the building itself. Make sure to check out the artwork throughout the place. If you like hidden staircases, watch out. The place appears to be kid friendly. There is a fabulous playground adjacent to the property. Make sure to purchase duck food for the locals. The bar, while somewhat limited in its offerings, was suitable for us. As to cost, the prices were comparable if not better than other bars/pubs we have visited.. We did not dine in the restaurant, but from what I say, the food looked amazing. The young man working reception was so very nice to help with our luggage as well as anything else we may have needed. The young ladies working in the bar were also very nice. In fact, they were so embarrassed by my asking to take their photo. They said no one had ever asked to take their photo.

We were recommended this hotel by family and friends who live in the area. Great choice.Stayed two nights.Attended 85th birthday lunch catering for 16 people on the Sunday. Superb food and service. Breakfasts excellent.Customer service first class.Staff have the right attitude and just cannot do enough for you. Rooms clean and comfortable..Large accessible free car park. Lauren one of the receptionists very helpful both upon arrival and departure. Would we return, well that's a simple question to answer, Definitely. Superb value for money.

I didn't book the old hall, but this one is really good. The cleanliness and comfort of the room is my most important. The decoration is red classical style. There is a wedding atmosphere under the floor.
