3-Star Hotels in Shanxi, China

It was just an absolutely amazing experience from the very beginning and until the very end of our stay, not even just in the hotel, but in the city of Pingyao itself in general. Me and my friend are traveling very light and without guides, and in Pingyao we had only one day: from evening to evening of the next day. Huge huge thanks to everyone who made this day unforgettable and ultimately comfortable for tired us: Alice, Helen, Fenny, Hana, and all others who was there for us. The hotel service is simply excellent: as soon as they learned about our late arrival, they immediately offered to meet us at the railway station, which was absolutely the sweetest thing. They brought us to the city gate, met us there, and walked us to the hotel. There they gave us a map, on which they explained in great detail where everything is, what is worth paying attention to, how it is better to build the route, and what opening hours different sights have. They also helped us organize a private transfer to Shaolin Temple the next morning. It was just perfect: we got there in 15 minutes instead of one and a half hours by foot, and after our walk in the temple they met us and brought us back. Also on the evening of arrival they helped us immediately buy the ticket for visiting all attractions of the city, valid for three days. And also they advised us where to eat, and gave us a hotel discount in both places. We did not regret it even once, the food was amazingly delicious in both places! The hotel itself is just wonderful: it really looks exactly like in the photos. You want to photograph every corner and record how the sparrows are chirping on the roof, and how two wonderful cats are meowing. The room also matches and even exceeds expectations. A huge kang bed, very comfortable. Excellent shower with everything needed. Breakfast is included in the stay: the traditional Chinese one was very tasty! Unfortunately, we did not manage to eat the egg, it was freshly boiled and still hot, but we were hurrying to Shaolin Temple by opening time. Also the hotel has a laundry service, and special thanks for that too! Washing and drying were very fast, and we got our nicely smelling clothes back already after four hours, which was critical for us, because we were leaving the same day. We felt like we really were honored guests, and we really appreciated it, even if only for one day.

The owner contacted us ahead of time and was very friendly and helpful. They provided essentially all the amenities we needed. The highlight was the generous and delicious breakfast, and the courtyard offered a charming view. As I was checking out, I even got to pick an apple from the owner's apple tree to eat – what a lovely touch! I would definitely choose to stay here again if I return to Datong.

Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. Before coming to Pingyao, I browsed over 10 guesthouses on Trip.com and finally chose this one! The main reason was its excellent location, especially since I was traveling with elderly family members. It's right in the heart of Pingyao Ancient City, making it super convenient to visit attractions like the Rishengchang Draft Bank, the Armed Escort Agency, and the County Government Office – everything is close by! 👍👍👍 The rooms aren't huge as it's an old house converted into a guesthouse, but they are very clean. All the necessary facilities are there, and both the rooms and the courtyard are spotless and comfortable. 🫰🫰🫰 The service was fantastic. The owner is very welcoming and attentive, always busy making sure everything is perfect. He gave us great recommendations on which attractions were worth visiting, marking them out on a map for us, which saved us a lot of valuable time planning our itinerary! When we left, he even gave us a bottle of their aged vinegar as a gift! 🫶🫶🫶 (Oh, and they offer pick-up and drop-off services; the young man who drove us was incredibly enthusiastic and energetic! 🤭🤭🤭) Friends planning a trip to Pingyao should definitely contact this guesthouse owner and give it a try – it's excellent! (Lastly, I have to mention that all the restaurants he recommended were delicious, and if you mentioned his phone number, you even got a 15% discount! 🤩🤩🤩)

We ended our five-day trip to Shanxi and were very satisfied with Shanxi, especially this B&B in Pingyao Ancient City. After booking the room, we contacted the inn and reserved a parking space for us. We got off the expressway and arrived at the parking lot smoothly, and someone came over. They were very considerate in picking up my luggage. The location of the inn is very good, just at the intersection of the pedestrian street. It is not noisy at night and is very convenient for traveling. This is the most recommended one. The inn is a typical Shanxi courtyard house, just like living in a TV series. The courtyard is very comfortable, the rooms are clean and hygienic, and the service is excellent. I recommend everyone to stay here.

As a solo traveler, I was a little apprehensive before my trip, secretly hoping there wouldn't be any unpleasant surprises, but it turns out I worried too much. This place boasts an excellent location in Wulong Alley, with beautiful surroundings that are safe and comfortable, and fully equipped facilities. Because it's not right next to the busiest snack streets, it's very quiet at night, allowing for a truly restful sleep – huge thumbs up! It's close to the North City Wall and convenient for visiting attractions like Huayan Temple, Daiwangfu, and the Nine Dragon Screen in the ancient city. It was also easy to reach all the eateries on my must-try list, such as Longjuxiang, Zini 369, Heshengcai, and Xijindao Snacks, and I managed to check them all off! I passed by Kuixing Tower and its wishing doll countless times; perhaps it was fate, haha 😄. For those who are too lazy to even walk a kilometer, there are shared bikes available. The owner is incredibly welcoming; they contacted me half a day in advance, added me on WeChat, and waited for me at the entrance. They went over all the important details and even asked about my breakfast preferences for the next day. The breakfast itself was perfectly portioned, exquisite, and nutritious. This place exceeded my expectations, another big thumbs up! Choosing this accommodation has made me even more excited for future solo travels. I hope the owner's business thrives, and I look forward to returning with my child and family sometime in the future for another visit.

I can’t stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

We had a fantastic stay here, largely thanks to the incredibly helpful and kind host. The hotel is housed in a 300-year-old building, giving you a beautiful, authentic experience of ancient China, but the interior is fully updated and very calm. Arrival and Service: The host is highly organized. They arranged a free shuttle to pick us up the moment we stepped out of the Pingyao Gucheng railway station, and provided a free drop-off when it was time to leave. Upon arrival, the host sat down with a map, clearly explained how to navigate the walled city, and gave us great advice on what to prioritize. The Room: It looks ancient from the outside, but it is a spacious, spotlessly clean, modern hotel room on the inside. It features a large flat-screen TV and a smart voice-control system for the lights. The bathroom was immaculate and entirely modern, complete with an excellent shower and a heated toilet seat. I cannot believe they provide a room of this quality for such an affordable price. It is truly worth it. Location & Breakfast: The hotel is in a very convenient spot inside the Pingyao city walls, just a 10-minute walk to the evening light show. Breakfast is included. Rather than a standard buffet, they serve a nice traditional set meal featuring millet porridge (xiaomi), fried vegetables, and eggs (see my uploaded pictures). I highly recommend this place if you want top-tier hospitality and a clean, comfortable blend of ancient atmosphere and modern convenience.

Very Nice Hotel at Center of Taihuai Town, The Owner Are Good and Very Welcoming, The room Very Clean with nice and comfort bedding. Hot shower is good. Many food and store available nearby. Early morning breakfast before pilgrimage, is not a problem, many affordable buffet arround at 15 RMB. If you want to go for 5 terrace pilgrimage, the transport will come to pick at the hotel, because the location is nearby The hotel owner also can help to book for the five terrace trip.
