The room, cleanliness and service was excellent. A really nice hotel - badly let down by its food.
The menu in the bar was uninspiring. I struggled to pick something I really enjoyed the sound of and wanted to eat. Between us and friends we sampled quite a selection of the meals over the 3 nights we stayed, and were unanimously unimpressed. If the Hotel was nearer other establishments we’d have eaten elsewhere after the first night.
The fried fish tasted ‘mushy’. The chicken satay skewers were so basic, served with just salad leaves, it felt lazy. Not restaurant fare.
The Nachos with beef for an eye watering €19.95 were shocking. Under the top layer it was just a pile of plain tortilla chips. The beef was fairly dry. It was a €12 starter at best.
The burger was overcooked and mediocre.
The side salad was €6 ( but only €4.95 in the restaurant ??) which consisted of a bowl of leaves with onion on top and a scant dressing.
The best part of the meal was the lemon posset. Smooth and tangy.
Frankly there was nothing served to us that couldn’t be cooked better by a reasonable home cook.
Hodson Bay has everything else right ! …. Shame about the food.

Went to Roscommon simply because we’d never been there before. Much bigger than we expected, some very interesting shops but none more so than Time Piece. You could spend hours browsing there, admiring their wide range of wonderful things. Top the morning off with a great choice of sustenance and refreshments in the Rogue & Co Coffee Shop, some wonderful home made cakes to enjoy
