Shanghai Hostels

After staying in the first room on the first night, I booked another room in the same hotel for the second night. This room was slightly more expensive (around 10 RMB more) but it had a window facing the road. The room had all the same basic amenities as the first one, including Wi-Fi, slippers, dental kit, shower gel, towels, and a hairdryer. The cleanliness was also just as good. The room was very clean with no dust, and the bathroom was neat and well maintained. Compared with the first room, this one was slightly larger and felt more comfortable mainly because of the window. The window provided natural light and ventilation, which made the room feel much more open and pleasant. Overall, everything I mentioned in my previous review about the hotel—such as the cleanliness, basic amenities, reasonable price, and convenient location—also applies to this room. The only difference is that this room is slightly bigger and has a window, which makes it a bit more comfortable. If you are deciding between the two, paying a little extra for the window room is worth it. Staying at YunJian Youth Hostel during my trip to Shanghai was an amazing experience! The location is a huge plus – it's not far from the subway station, making it super convenient to get to places like Nanjing Road and The Bund. It really saved me time and effort getting around. The hostel itself is clean and tidy. The common areas and bathrooms are cleaned daily, and there were no strange odors. The bunk beds are thoughtfully designed; the curtains provide privacy, and each bed has its own power outlet and a small locker, which made me feel very secure. The common lounge area has a comfortable vibe, perfect for relaxing and chatting. The facilities like washing machines and luggage storage are all available. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient with check-ins. Most of my bunkmates were solo travelers, and everyone was very respectful of each other's space, so even as an introvert, I felt completely comfortable. It's perfect for both short trips and temporary stays. I genuinely recommend it to any backpackers coming to Shanghai!

I moved from a 6-bed female dorm to a 4-bed female dorm, but to my surprise, the 4-bed dorm was actually a bit narrower than the 6-bed one. I didn't expect that. Honestly, I also found the common areas a bit cramped. There are only three showers in the female bathroom, but a plus compared to Hostel No. 1 is that the showers and toilets are separate. Also, their mattresses are thicker than at Hostel No. 1. I dropped something once and checked under the bed, and noticed they even have a pretty big dust mite repellent sachet, which was nice. I think their beds are a bit more comfortable and better to sleep on than at Hostel No. 1. The front desk service was decent too; they'd solve any issues promptly.

I specifically chose this hostel to experience the old Shikumen lane houses. It's tucked away deep in a bustling alley, and you have to navigate through winding old streets and traditional iron gates to get in. Stepping inside, you're immediately immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of old Shanghai, a delightful surprise for its tranquil location amidst the hustle and bustle. The renovated old house retains its vintage wooden windows and old floor tiles, and the courtyard is filled with greenery. I woke up to the aroma of breakfast stalls from the lane each morning, and in the evenings, I enjoyed the breeze in the courtyard, fully experiencing local life. The beds come with blackout curtains, individual reading lights, and charging ports. Storage lockers are complete, and the bedding is changed daily, fresh and odorless. The bathrooms are cleaned in sections, with 24-hour hot water. The public living area is spacious, with bookshelves, board games, a microwave, and a self-service washing machine – full of thoughtful details. The owner and staff are warm and genuine, proactively sharing local hidden gems for food and off-the-beaten-path routes, helping me avoid tourist traps. Shopping districts and the subway are within walking distance, and there are old-school pastry shops all around. The value for money is absolutely amazing. It's my top choice for solo travelers and students. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai!

The location is great, very close to the subway station, making it convenient to get to The Bund and Nanjing Road. There are also plenty of dining options nearby. The hostel itself is quite clean; both the common areas and bathrooms are regularly tidied, which gives you peace of mind. The front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The hostel has a good atmosphere; you can sit and chat or relax in the lobby, which is perfect for solo travelers. The bunk beds have curtains, offering decent privacy, and there are sockets and a small light by the bed – everything you need is there. For this price in Shanghai, it's really excellent value for money. I'd definitely consider staying here again on my next visit.

This place is great! The front desk staff personally showed me to my bed. No eating or loud phone calls are allowed in the rooms, which keeps things quiet. A little foot traffic is totally acceptable. I specifically chose a multi-person dorm to try it out, and it was surprisingly quiet. The bedding was clean, and I didn't have to make my own bed; it was even softer than my college dorm bed. You can order takeout in the common lounge area, and there's self-serve hot water and a microwave at the front desk. The toilet in the bathroom has disposable seat covers, and the shower facilities are good too. Overall, it's truly excellent for a hostel.

Facilities: The facilities are very complete. The front desk provides toothbrushes and earplugs, and I even saw disposable bath towels. The Laifen hair dryer was excellent. However, the door to the single room was transparent, very transparent (see photo 4), which made me, as a woman, feel very unsafe. Also, the charger was too far from the pillow, so I couldn't charge my phone and use it while lying down. This is definitely something to be aware of. Service: The service attitude was great. They answered all my questions, and the staff were very enthusiastic. Hygiene: The environment was truly terrible. I booked a single room, and when I entered, there was a strange, damp, and moldy smell. The bed sheets weren't clean either; they had crumbs and oil stains, which was really unpleasant for anyone staying there. I immediately ordered a disposable sleeping bag. Moreover, the desk was completely uncleaned, covered in crumbs. The toilet was okay in terms of hygiene, definitely cleaner than the room itself.

Excellent! I found the environment here very elegant and artistically beautiful. It's peaceful, allowing for a calm mind, and you can cook your own meals. It has a wonderful, lived-in feel, and the auntie cleans the place spotlessly.

The interior facilities are quite complete, with a cooking area, range hood, and washing machine. It's suitable for long-term stays. The shower drainage isn't very smooth, but the cleanliness is acceptable.

Cleanliness: well it is clean. Except for th Comfort room there is a yellowish on the side floor. When you open the door, you will see the snall kitchen and on its front the small comfort room. The bed is big and nice even the cabinets and table. There is no hair blower. The ref is not working. It was a cheapest and nice apartment hotel as it is like a small condo for a couple.
