Tiger Inn - Grace

I have come down from Hailsham and absolutely loved the scenery on the green where I consumed many lovely pints! What was more impressive was the young man named Scott who has been outstanding with his customer service! Tried to walk Inside- he offered me table service! Pints brought out instantly by him after each order and even the chips !! Less than 30 seconds after I ordered !! Even the local maccies isn’t that quick !! He over heard me talking about getting a table at the Thai across the green and walked up there and booked me the best table in the restaurant! Thank you Scott! We will come back!

We received an Afternoon Tea Voucher as a Christmas present and decided to book for my husband's birthday in June. Upon arrival at the hotel reception desk, we only had to wait a few moments before Donna showed us into one of the lounges where a table was set up for us by a window overlooking the lake and grounds. As it was a beautiful sunny afternoon I asked if we could have tea on the terrace. Donna apologised and said that unfortunately this was not possible so we were initially a little disappointed, however, we were still able to enjoy the view. Our selected coffee with hot milk arrived swiftly and the selection of sandwiches, scones and patisseries quickly followed. All were freshly made and quite delicious. Donna ensured both the coffee and hot milk were replenished as required and looked after us superbly throughout the afternoon. After tea and feeling rather full we took the opportunity to have a walk around the hotel grounds seeing the fish in the lake and the deer grazing amongst the trees on the adjoining golf course. All in all, a very enjoyable afternoon made even better by the June sunshine!

Oh dear - this is a very tired hotel. Room was clean but dated and very tatty. No food offerings at all, and the bar is deserted, in fact shut on the second evening of my stay. Any staff are hard to find. My tv didn’t work and as there is no phone in the room I had to traipse back downstairs to try and find someone, who said her boss had been trying to fix the tv earlier that day! I suggested it could be the batteries in the remote, so we tried that and it worked. The back of the tv was covered in a thick layer of dust. The few staff I did find were helpful and friendly, but mostly it was like the Marie Celeste! The front door was shut by 9.30pm, fortunately they gave me the code for the door. It was dark and unoccupied it seemed, and being on my own was somewhat scary, having to let myself in to the dark reception alone, having already had to walk around the outside of the building in the dark from the car park- not pleasant or welcoming. One morning a person was hanging out from an upstairs window at the front having a cigarette- a member of staff maybe, but not a good look. The car park is shocking, with a huge flood that you have to walk through to get out of it. Not even sure there is anyone on duty there overnight, or how you would get hold of anyone as no phone numbers in the room. Seriously needs an overhaul.

I was recently in Sussex working at the Women's European Soccer Championships for several weeks, and stayed at Carole & Ceri's wonderful B&B for two nights - it was by far the best place I stayed during my visit. They were very welcoming, showing me to a lovely comfortable room with its own bathroom overlooking a wonderful garden. The attention to detail and the warm, friendly welcome are exactly what makes travelling in England so special, and the breakfast the following morning was head and shoulders above the many hotel buffet efforts that I experienced. Many of their guests are there to visit the local opera but in truth their B&B is perfect for anyone travelling around the south coast - I sincerely hope that I have reason to pass that way again in the future, and if I do I'll be booking a room with them again.
Chequers Inn Hotel

After reading the reviews I was slightly concerned, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. My room was rm 35 - comfy 4 poster bed. The bathroom was a retro orange, the water was hot. Tea/coffee/milk/biscuits, clean towels + toiletries provided. Rm 36 smelled of smoke + TV wasn't working so I had the better room but co-traveller said other than that it was fine, bed comfy and it was quiet. Some lights in the corridor didn't work - just used torch on phone. Fire escape was not locked but would prefer that than getting locked in a burning building. Other accommodation near was more than double the price per night (we paid £150 for 2 x ensuite doubles) - so content to enjoy, not perfection but the chance to stay in a querky listed building. Just check in early as online can double book rooms!
