Hotel location is very good, in the center of Wellington, the parking lot is on the upper floor, to go up a steep slope, parking fee 15 NZ / day. The interior decoration is a bit antique and has a sense of history. The downside is that I arrived at the hotel on Christmas Eve, and the front desk was closed (should be at 7 pm), saying that I sent an email to me, but I didn't find it in fact. Still the cleaning guy, contacted me, opened the key box, and got the key.

Guest UserLocation was exactly where I needed to be and it is close to town centre.
I came up to play in a Pickleball tournament and appreciated a room with a bath tub.
Stuff was there at arrival and departure. Room key was easy to use.

Benny MarcusAura Hotel is located right next to the vibrant Cuba street and Courtenay place. The room on level 2, block J was spacious and in great condition.
However, the first room I was assigned in Block 'N' had a strong, suffocating smell and lacked windows. I called the front desk to request a room change since I couldn't find any windows in that room or the dining area, only to be informed that all blocks in the hotel were windowless. As I walked back to the front desk, I noticed a block with open windows. The front desk staff wasn't happy with me for checking other blocks and also annoyed when I informed him that I knocked on neighboring 5 empty rooms in the Block, without any response, to enquire if they experience the smell too. The personnel claimed that the block I saw was the only one with windows and was fully booked. I returned to my initial room, but the odor persisted, prompting me to return the keys and applied for a refund. After almost an hour, we inspected the room again with the receptionist, and surprisingly, the smell had vanished. Despite this strange encounter, I still opted for a room change. I was given another room in block 'J', which, while also lacking windows, it had a better odour. As I explored the floor after settling in, I discovered several other blocks with windows.
This experience reflected very poor service and dodgy misleading information from the front desk. The first six uploaded images are of Block N, while the subsequent images, beginning with the keys, showcase Block J.

I stayed in a basic room with shared bathroom.
The hotel has an old style elevator which is cool.
The room comes w a heater and a face basin with a mirror which is too high unless you are 1.9m to 2m tall. Lol.
A fridge, a kettle , coffee, tea , cocoa powder and milk for coffee are provided.
It also provide a bath soap and towel.
The hotel entrance are locked after 5pm or 6pm for the safety of the hotel guests as there are no receptionist after 22:00hours.
Cons :- The shower area light auto switched off 3-5mins thus it’s scary when u are still showering , the whole place turned dark.
Both the shower cubicle and the common area in the shower area are scary when they are in total darkness. This is negative as not the right way to save electricity I guess and risk falls as well.
U can parked your luggage after you checkout for free as well.
Lastly the hotel is 20min walk from the Railway station or NZD11 on Uber. And walking distance to the Pier for some high end dining as well as nice eateries within the city centre.

In the heart of the downtown city close to the action if you like to go out in the evening. We missed the airco as it was warm on our room. We had nice view on the church next to the hotel

Quite the experience. I was hoping for ‘cheap and cheerful’ fairly close to town. That was the case for the room and the breakfast options surpassed my expectations. We slept well and were happy to have somewhere to stay that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. After checking out we had a riotous time over a drink, reading through past reviews as we are clearly not alone in noticing the ‘Fawlty Towers-esque’ demeanour of the owner/manager. He likes to complain about guests and after a couple of chats with him we were bemused to o notice that we had inadvertently behaved incorrectly and were the subjects of gossip with new guests - while we were still in the room! I might have grey hair but my hearing is still intact. My impression is that he’s harmless enough, just lacking in some social etiquette. If you remember Basil Fawlty and take it with a grain of salt, you’ll be fine.

I felt this hotel was really, really old and cold. The hotel policy states they won't turn on the central heating unless they deem it cold enough, which I think needs some reconsideration. I figured the bathroom would be freezing for a shower, so I skipped it. I noticed the private bathrooms seemed to be better equipped, so if you book this place, definitely go for a room with a private bathroom. Don't even consider the others, or you'll likely be disappointed.

Anonymous UserThe in-room facilities, like the cabinets and drawers, were a bit dated but still functional; everything else was pretty good.
Also, I booked a King Room, but the 'king bed' was actually two twin beds pushed together. There was a gap in the middle, and if you happened to sleep there, you might accidentally shift the bed. If this bothers you, you might want to reconsider. Otherwise, everything else was decent. The room was quite spacious, and its downtown location was convenient. The only minor issue was some motorcycle noise from the street at night, but it wasn't frequent.
Finally, regarding the service, I'm docking one point here. The hotel initially requested my credit card details for their system to charge for any potential damages. This isn't an issue in itself, but the lady who checked me in explained it unprofessionally, which made me a bit wary. In reality, this charge was a pre-authorization done through a POS machine via the bank system, which is quite secure, rather than being stored in their own system. Furthermore, the receptionist took my credit card and processed the authorization herself, which I found unreasonable. At another hotel I stayed at, the front desk clearly explained it was a pre-authorization and brought the POS machine to me so I could swipe my card myself after confirming. If I swipe it myself and something goes wrong later, I'll take responsibility. But if someone else handles my card, I'll think of that incident if an issue arises, even though this particular operation seems safe. I'm just saying it's neither professional nor standard practice. She just took my credit card, and I didn't confirm the entire process. However, since no substantial problems occurred, I still find it acceptable, just a bit annoying. Other than that, everything else was quite good, and I would still recommend it, though I hope they improve their service procedures through better training.

PattersonAlways thoroughly enjoy my stay here. Very convenient, a step away from central Courtenay Place. Parking is convenient and easily accessed. Rooms are fully equipped with kitchenette that has its own dishwasher/cooktop/fridge etc. super comfy bed and nice little balcony. Really nice open plan bathroom/wet room and lighting is great for dolling up! It’s the PERFECT spot for a night out on the town. Always will be booking here for when I am needing to spend my night in Central Wellington for events. Christian H at the counter is a very nice and welcoming work colleague.
