2-Star Hotels in Canterbury, New Zealand

The twizel town is very beautiful and the place was at the right place. However, the room we choose wasn’t that great. I know it’s a small town but reception area was closed by 7pm so you need to make sure you arrive before time else need to message the check in time.

The motel room is very clean, the car also has a place to park, not far from the city center, and overall is good. The only thing is that the sound insulation is not very good. We live in a small villa facing the street. The single-story glass on the second floor is a bit noisy when there is a big car. But still recommended, the Chinese at the front desk are more lax

When I checked into the hotel that day, the front desk lady was very enthusiastic, introduced the basic situation of the hotel, and specially said that the door was closed at night, how to open the door, and then introduced the parking spot for the Christchurch bus, and walked less.

Due to the season, all the hotels in the area were booked out, so I had to stay in a dormitory room in this hotel. The hotel itself is nice. The room was very small, but clean and ok for this type of room. There is a shared kitchen, rest area, as well as laundry which is great. The location is 15-20 mins walk from the town center, but it’s ok. However, the service is not good. It was the male manager who checked me in. When I asked the manager if there was a breakfast option, he laughed at my face and told me: “Girl, your room is like what, 30 bucks and you want breakfast?”. This was really rude and unacceptable. Moreover, I didn’t even mean for the breakfast to be included in the room price, but wondered if I could buy one since I don’t have much experience of living in hostels. Therefore, I deduct some point for such an arrogant behavior from the staff who represent the hotel.

The hotel is about 10 minutes drive from the airport. There is a gas station nearby, which is convenient for late arrivals. The key is placed in a box at the front desk door, which is very convenient for self-check-in. The TV in the room is very new and can watch YouTube. The kitchen is a bit small, but the things are quite complete. There is a bottle of milk in the refrigerator, which I thought was left by the previous guest. The room has a private bathroom, which is good. It is very cost-effective for many people. The supermarket is 10 minutes drive away.

It was a wonderful stay at the accommodation. Check in is super easy and they will give you the instructions beforehand. The hosts have been very nice and helpful. Anything you need it’s just a call away and they will get it right away for you! It’s a good place to stay if you are traveling to Lake Tekapo the next day too!

A 15-minute walk from the Church of the Good Shepherd, this place has a quiet and lovely courtyard with blooming flowers. Check-in and check-out are self-service with key retrieval and return. This time I booked a room with a shared bathroom, but it was conveniently located right next to my room in the same building. There's also a large communal kitchen and dining area, which is great for preparing your own meals.

The location is good. The room windows are quite old and the soundproofing is very poor. The music from some bar outside was very noisy at night, but it quieted down by midnight. The bathroom layout was a bit confusing; it took me a while to find things the first time. There were some small flying insects in the room, but they didn't bite. I booked this hotel for the convenience of taking my luggage to pick up the car the next day, as it's very close to the car rental company.

Room is a bit cramped when full, but when I stayed we had people come and stay for one day only. So not too full. I can’t state enough, I love the idea of turning historic jail to accommodation, which is incredible idea. Kitchen is clean and huge, each bed has their own storage for pantry things in the kitchen, cozy corner is wonderful, books and puzzles! Love loveee! They have two best employees; pumpkin and onion🐈⬛🐈 If you like walking, it’s just 30is min to city centre and there where botanical garden is.

I was very happy with the Blackhorse Hotel. The room I had was quite spacious , the facility was clean, the bed was so comfy, even had a large tv and I had a wonderful staff member that was accommodating and very friendly. A few minutes to McDonalds for easy meal. Not wanting to spend a lot on accommodation for my trip I was happy with my choice and would recommend for other travellers passing through.
