Valarie474I did not want to leave. That is the most honest thing I can say about Xihe Academy.
”Guest house” is a label that does not prepare you for what this place actually is. If you are American and hearing that term for the first time, forget whatever image just came to mind. This is not a MIL suite tucked behind someone's garage. This is a fully realized, deeply considered experience wrapped inside one of the most stunning environments I have ever walked into. The courtyard alone stopped me mid-step. The surrounding area looks like an active film set -- you keep half-expecting to hear ”action” called from somewhere just off camera. And then you step inside and somehow it gets even better. I genuinely lost my words.
The room is the kind of space where you realize someone has actually thought of everything. Included minibar. Fresh fruit and snacks. Loose-leaf tea so you can brew a proper cup. Bathrooms fully stocked down to the shower shoes. You can arrive with nothing but your clothes and be completely at ease. They have handled the rest.
The staff made all of it feel personal. When a language barrier created a small miscommunication, they were patient and gracious without a flicker of frustration. When I joked that I had gone a little crazy shopping and could not close my suitcase, they immediately offered suggestions to help. That warmth is not a policy -- it lives in the people.
They coordinate meals as well, and mine was delivered to my room and genuinely delicious.
One thing I will say without hesitation: use their driver. This is a private, gated area and you cannot simply grab a random car or rideshare. Arrange your pickup from the train station or airport in advance -- it is seamless, affordable, and completely worth it. Do not skip this step.
This was my first guesthouse experience, and Xihe Academy has set a bar I was not expecting to clear so soon. If you stay here, you will not regret it. Five stars is not enough.

Guest UserHuge thanks to Xu Shuling! My back isn't great, and she proactively arranged a mattress topper for me, which was incredibly thoughtful. She truly sets the standard for housekeeping service, and the other ladies in housekeeping were also lovely. When we had an issue, Manager Han, the duty manager, even came to our room to help sort things out, and her attitude was excellent. However, I wasn't too pleased with breakfast. First, my fourth-grader was considered too tall, so I ended up only getting two breakfasts for my husband and child. It's the first time at a five-star hotel that they wouldn't negotiate initially and then never followed up, but we stuck to the rules and didn't try to get anything extra. Second, my husband and child entered the restaurant at 9:30 AM, which I know was close to closing time, but the noodle station was already closed, which was a bit disappointing... This could be looked into further to improve service! On the bright side, the hotel restaurant's dinner room service was affordable, delicious, and generous in portions! Very satisfied! The delivery manager and chef were also great!

Anonymous UserI stayed at the Kempinski for a business trip, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. The hotel is centrally located with convenient transportation and a bustling commercial district nearby. The concierge proactively helped with my luggage, and the front desk service was professional and efficient, with no tedious waiting throughout. My room had excellent natural light, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a superb view. The bathroom amenities were high-quality, and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring an undisturbed night's rest. Breakfast offered a comprehensive selection, from Western pastries to Chinese congee and noodles, and the freshly ground coffee was delicious. The Executive Lounge provided a quiet environment, perfect for meetings or relaxation, and the well-equipped gym was great for a workout during my business trip. The German hotel chain's attention to detail was exceptional, and it offered great value for money. I highly recommend it for business travelers.

Valarie474A Sanctuary When I Needed It Most
I arrived in Taiyuan not feeling well and ended up staying seven nights without ever leaving the room. Labor Day holiday, full DND stretches, just me and delivery apps. And honestly? It was exactly what I needed, and this hotel made it possible.
Let me start with the moment that defined this stay. My housekeeper came in most days to refresh the room, and each time I'd ask for the same drinks. After a few days he just knew -- knew what I wanted, knew I wasn't feeling well. He'd heard me coughing while he cleaned and was clearly paying attention. On my last day, when I had DND up and didn't want any service at all, he quietly left a bag of my favorite drinks outside the door anyway. No knock, no disruption. Just a person who had been paying attention all week and wanted to take care of me. That kind of warmth doesn't come from a training manual. I won't forget it.
The room itself held up beautifully for a long stationary stay. Clean, accurate to the photos, well-appointed. Floor-to-ceiling windows, two bathrooms, excellent shower pressure, generous storage, a proper tea set, and a beverage bar housekeeping kept replenished without being asked. The slippers were genuinely excellent -- better than some five-star properties I've stayed at.
For seven nights of recovery during a national holiday, this hotel and its people delivered everything that mattered.

Ctrip's target is five diamonds, except for the lobby and services, none of the other links meet this standard. Room facilities are old. But at this price, don't expect too good hardware. The breakfast was good, which is to be commended. There is no business district nearby, so it is not very convenient to eat.
Service: The service is rated five points, very thoughtful and enthusiastic.
Facilities: old.
Will not live again in the future.

Staying at Yungang Grand Hotel in Datong was a fantastic experience overall. The hotel is grand and impressive, and the rooms are spacious and clean, with smart controls that are easy to use. The breakfast restaurant on the basement level, with its water features, is incredibly photogenic, and the breakfast spread is extensive, featuring authentic local dishes like knife-cut noodles and shaomai. I recommend going during off-peak hours to avoid crowds. The accompanying pool is convenient for swimming, but the water was a bit cold, which I hope they improve. Fenglin Pavilion on the first floor is a great spot to visit, and getting to the Yungang Grottoes and the ancient city is very convenient. The service was attentive and thoughtful. It's definitely my top choice for accommodation when visiting Datong.

QingzhebabaThe hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. The hotel is very clean, the restaurant food is delicious, and the staff provide excellent service. As I was traveling alone and wanted to try local specialties, the staff kindly reduced the portion sizes, which was great – tasty and no waste! The room facilities are new, but there's a minor issue: the sink and shower are in separate areas, and the bath towels are kept under the sink. This makes it inconvenient to grab a towel after showering. If you take it into the shower beforehand, there's nowhere to hang it. Perhaps a hook could be added?

HorizonKKThis is a really good hotel for the Wutaishan area. The design is quite ancient and fits in well with the surroundings. After buying tickets to the scenic area, there's a shuttle bus that picks you up, and it only takes a few minutes to get there, which is very convenient. You can take the free No. 8 bus to attractions like Shuxiang Temple, and the hotel shuttle will even drop you off at the bus stop. Having stayed in too many Marriott properties, the differences here become apparent. The buffet selection was really limited, which was a shame. The faucet was quite rusty; it's time for a replacement. All the staff were very friendly!

On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me.
Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄
This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

Guest UserDude, I'm gonna strongly recommend Yunjincheng Mansion! It's got an awesome location, right in the heart of Pingyao Ancient City. You can just take a stroll to major attractions like Rishengchang Draft Bank. It's super convenient to get around. The century - old courtyard has that classic and elegant charm, so peaceful and refined. You can totally immerse yourself in the style of the Shanxi merchant compound. The guest rooms are clean, tidy, and comfy. The toiletries are really good, and the stay was great. They even gave us a foot - soaking bucket. How sweet is that! The breakfast has a wide variety. There are freshly - made hand - cut noodles, pure Shanxi aged vinegar brewed on the spot, and freshly - ground coffee that smells amazing and tastes so rich. The staff are friendly and polite, and their service is so detailed. The turn - down service at night really shows they care. I felt so comfortable throughout the stay. I'll definitely choose this place next time I come!
