Rarely leave reviews, but this is purely my personal experience, hoping it helps others. The five stars are for the service.
Since it was my child's birthday, I wanted to find a decent hotel in a nearby big city to experience its vibrancy (even though it wasn't my first time, I'd only been to Disney before). I was torn between several hotels near the Bund, but worried about their age. So, drawn by MGM's reputation, I chose this one. (Also, when I booked, Xuhui District apparently had government coupons, so the price for the May Day holiday wasn't inflated much, it was similar to or even cheaper than usual – even cheaper than what I'd get on another platform where I have top-tier membership).
After booking, I communicated my needs to the hotel front desk, concierge, and Chinese restaurant. Everything was handled very well. Because it was a birthday, I requested decorations, and the guest experience department proactively contacted me, arranged birthday decorations, and provided a small cake and pastries. Overall, the service gets a five-star rating.
Regarding the hotel's hardware: it's not a luxurious old-money style, but the overall wooden aesthetic is quite good (personally, the material of the dressing table and tissue box, with its small dots, gives me a bit of trypophobia).
I want to commend the pool changing rooms and steam room – they're very spacious with plenty of linens. The steam room seems to have some herbal properties. The pool isn't huge, but the water quality is quite clean.
The only area I hope they improve is the F&B. In my limited experience with five-star hotels, whether it was the breakfast buffet or the Chinese restaurant, it wasn't just 'decent but a bit pricey.' It was more like, even with a huge discount, I probably wouldn't choose to eat there. I shared my subjective opinion, and the restaurants offered me a very satisfactory complimentary meal solution (though that wasn't my goal). I hope the quality of the restaurants continues to improve and they do well. On this front, I once again commend the service attitude of the restaurants, including their corporate culture of allowing immediate feedback – I was quite impressed by this.
I won't go into too much detail about the F&B issues, but I will mention that the roasted pigeon at the Chinese restaurant was excellent.
I didn't take many photos because nothing truly wowed me.
