Pullman Hotels in Shanghai

Decent stay, but several misses for a 5-star property My stay at the Pullman Shanghai Central was a mixed bag—nice in some areas, but disappointing in others. Check-in: The staff were very friendly and welcoming on our first day. However, I was surprised that they wouldn't let me check in until 3:00 PM. At most other hotels, I'm usually able to get an early check-in (even if I arrive at noon), so this felt a bit rigid for a property of this level. The Room: The room itself was comfortable—the bed was soft and the shower pressure was actually perfect (not too strong, not too weak, just right). Unfortunately, the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke upon arrival. To their credit, when I called the front desk, they immediately offered to change my room, which was very professional of them. Breakfast: This was the biggest letdown. The breakfast buffet felt more like what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel rather than a 5-star Pullman. The quality and selection just weren't there for me. Overall: It was an okay stay—nothing terrible, but nothing exceptional either. I wouldn't rate it a 10/10, more like a solid 6. Good service from the staff, but the check-in policy, smoke issue, and food really held it back.

Pullman Shanghai Jing'an Hotel is conveniently located near Shanghai Railway Station, just a five-minute walk away. It's also close to Metro Lines 1, 3, and 4, making it easy to access all of Shanghai's main attractions. The hotel boasts exquisite decor with thoughtful attention to detail. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bedding is comfortable, and the facilities are comprehensive. The front desk staff provide excellent, patient, and attentive service.

Given the price, the environment here was truly below expectations. I understand it's an old hotel, so things like electric toilets, trash cans, and curtains aren't automated. However, there should at least be some basic amenities. There was no tissue box in the room, no hand soap, toothbrushes, or cotton swabs in the bathroom – none of the things you'd expect. Not even slippers. When I called the front desk, either no one answered or it took half an hour for them to bring anything over.

I really enjoyed my stay at Pullman Shanghai. The hotel has a more grand and luxurious feel, even from the moment you arrive. The doormen were very professional and helpful, assisting with luggage and opening car doors on arrival and departure. The check-in process was warm and friendly, and the room was comfortable with a nice bathtub addition. The breakfast selection was excellent, with a wide variety of international options, and the hotel also offers several restaurant choices. The location is great, just a short walk from Novotel, with many nearby restaurants and a large mall about 15 minutes away. Definitely a hotel I would visit again.
