Established in 1879, this hotel is indeed the Grand Birmingham Hotel! It oozes classiness throughout. Our room was spacious but looking at the floor plan, that seems to be the standard! Bathrobes provided though not slippers. The shower has a door instead of the useless walk in panels that never work! No useless espresso cups but proper world map mugs for our coffees and tea in-room. Two comfortable arm chairs and the bed… The bed was a dream and I’m hoping to source the exact mattress topper and duvet! Perfect for me as a smoker, the hotel has an exclusive courtyard terrace on the first floor offering complimentary self service coffee. There are two adjacent restaurants to the hotel that uphold a dress code ensuring the premises is classy throughout. Beyond the hotel doors there’s plenty other eateries as the hotel is bang in the centre right by the Birmingham Cathedral: again perfect for our following Palm Sunday. The only thing I don’t understand is why the hotel entrance is not bigger and grander than it deserves.

the room is good enough for 3 persons, though the sofa beds are actually smaller than the photos. well equipped with 2 head cooking hobs, small fridge, dish washer, microwave with grill function and sufficient utensils, and also instant coffee were provided. the water pressure of the shower is super good and water is hot enough but the toilet is a bit small, you have to hide just next to the toilet bowl then you have enough space to open the door. The down side is the service of the reception & housekeeping team. After we got the room cards, we couldn't access to the room and needed to go down to ask the receptionist to fix the cards and come back to open the room. After entered the room, we found that the water in toilet sink didn't go, we asked the housekeeping staff who was just working at the next room to have a look at it but who said we needed to go to the receptionist (as there's no inter-room telephone, we have to go down again). Then the receptionist arranged another room which was downstairs for us. We booked for 2 nights, when we came back to the hotel the next evening, the room cards didn't work, again. The receptionist claimed that it might be due to the cards being put together with the mobile phone that might damage the cards. However, we were sure the cards weren't put together with the phones! It would be perfect if a small box of tissue could be provided.

The clean facilities are very new. The building has a high-end feel both inside and outside. However, the service and the price do not match the price. In a hotel that costs more than 1,000 a night, a four-in-one express hotel shower gel is very stingy and smells bad... The bedding is rough and does not match the price of the hotel. I only asked for a one-hour delay in check-out. After the front desk agreed, they knocked on the door and said that the service could only be served for half an hour. The logic was confusing and the experience was not good.

Receptionist gave fan but it doesn’t work , room temperature was not tolerable , my husband felt suffocated , he slept only for 2 hours . Hotel was fully booked so that’s why we have no option to changed the room but they ready to give us refund but refund is not solution because it’s disturb our plan , budget ☹️.

To be fair Birmingham at first glance coming out of the station doesn’t look all that safe for a foreign traveller. The route to the hotel would initially reinforce that impression. However after walking the city the next day for over 6-8 hours, while the location is NOT city Center, it is actually located in a good place close to all the major places I need to visit on foot; train station, the mega mall Bullring, Birmingham city center / cathedral / St Martin’s mkt, the hip new part of town - Gas Basin (canal waterways) and also the city’s modern library with the rooftop gdns (@ Centenary Square). The rooms looked like it was recently refurbished. For the price I paid (58 Pounds for 2 pax), it was the best value out of my entire 16 day UK trip covering 15 different towns - up & down the UK (incl London/Cambridge/Leicester/Coventry). In short, a pretty damn good deal. It had aircon which was a major blessing in summer as most other places I stayed, didn’t have that.

I booked my stay at Malacuna through Trip.com, but the check-in process was very confusing and frustrating. When I arrived, the lady at reception asked me to wait, which already felt a bit odd. Then, when I provided my booking details, she told me I had to pay £70 — even though I had already paid through the app. When I explained this, she insisted they hadn’t received any message from Trip.com and even asked if I was sure I booked through them, saying their system was connected to ******* instead. She also insisted on seeing something that specifically said “Malacuna” on my receipt. I showed her my booking confirmation, but she still told me to check with reception again at checkout the next day. The whole experience left me confused and a bit uneasy. While the stay itself may have been fine, the check-in process really needs improvement. Clearer communication between Malacuna and booking platforms like Trip.com would save guests from unnecessary stress and doubt.

As a four star hotel, I am disappointed that the room was not really clean, and there was a strange smell, and there was no toothpaste! Staff were nice and the location is in the centre. I enjoyed the sauna, the gym is not big. Restaurant's price is reasonable, the breakfast could be better.

Room is tiny but all necessary amenities are included. Beds are comfortable, the water is hot enough for a cozy shower and the air conditioning is working well. Staffs are friendly. Sufficient and economical on-site parking provided. A bit noisy at night caused by other guests though, bringing earplugs may be a good idea for those sensitive sleepers.

The room was quite spacious and offered much better value for money compared to staying in London. It was quiet and spotlessly clean. The breakfast selection was also very plentiful and varied. It's about a 15-minute drive from Birmingham New Street Station, with a taxi costing around £7.
