I was one person and they asked me to pay the city tax 2 times because they said that it is a double room and that's how it sould be - 30 euros instead of 15. They said ”its on the systeme and that it can not be changed even if i am just one person”. In that hotel they do not allow to anyone open the windows - that is very stressful even for people with no claustrophobia. No window open - of course in all rooms closed by key - but in the entire hotel also. It was a very strange feeling to not be able to have fresh air and beeing closed in all that big building. I personaly will not recommand this hotel to anyone and even if i would pay 0 euros i would not return.

The location is excellent, but the details are a little lacking. The bed sheets are a little short and the Simmons mattress doesn't cover both ends. The breakfast is 46 euros per person with a wide variety. When you enter the breakfast room, someone will seriously introduce the food on the bar to you, but they forget to tell you that you can order Chinese snacks. There is no price list for the minibar, and you will be asked to pay when you check out. A bottle of water is 26 euros.

Don't get conned by this establishment! It looks nice from the outside but once you're in, the service is atrocious! There's great pretence in ”trying” to serve and assist/help in anything (from restaurant reservations to car park ticket validations) - it's all one big farce! The only commendable thing was the buffet breakfast - that's the only plus point.

Enjoyed my first stay at Kimpton in Amsterdam, its a large hotel with spacious rooms. Bathroom and bedroom space was good (King room, no balcony), and we enjoyed having a view. Service was helpful and friendly and conveniently located only 5min from Amsterdam Centraal station making it convenient to travel to and from the hotel.

Great location, close to centraal station, tram and metro. Lots of restaurants around, especially the Asian food selections nearby (chicken ramen is very nice)! We had a family room with sofa that fits the 4 of us. Shower room ceiling is a bit low if you are over 170cm. Power outage in the area on our last day there but the staff was very helpful.

After returning from Iceland, I opted to stay here again. This time, my room was on the 3rd floor, but there's no direct elevator access – you have to switch elevators on the second floor. The room didn't have any stirrers, and when I asked, the front desk wouldn't send them up; I had to go down to get them myself. What was truly frustrating was the motion-sensor light in the bathroom. It would always turn off automatically halfway through my shower, leaving me in complete darkness. I'd essentially be left in the dark twice during a single shower!

I had a great experience staying at Generator Amsterdam! The hostel is stylish, clean, and well-located, with friendly staff and a vibrant atmosphere. Everything from the shared spaces to the rooms was well-maintained. The only downside was that they don’t accept cash, something I wasn’t aware of beforehand. It would’ve been helpful to know in advance. Otherwise, a fantastic stay!

The room was bigger than expected, with super comfortable beds (a bit smaller in size but great sleep quality). Sound insulation was excellent, so the room was quiet and relaxing. Check-in was smooth and there were always staff around to help; same for check-out and luggage storage, which made everything very convenient. The bathroom was spacious and clean, though I personally don’t like the half-glass shower door design, as it tends to make the outside shower we, but otherwise it was great. Cleaning was spotless and done daily. We didn’t include breakfast at first but decided to try it later, it was definitely worth the €22.50 per person. There were plenty of choices, and the smoked salmon, olives, and cheese section were especially nice. Honestly, breakfast cafés in Amsterdam cost about the same or more, so having a full buffet here felt like good value. There isn’t much going on immediately around the hotel, but it’s right next to a metro station that takes you to the central area in just a few minutes. A great option if you prefer to stay somewhere quieter yet well connected.

If you’re a tourist, you’re better off somewhere else. Invest in a good room. Don’t cheap yourself out! We rushed our trip and didn’t get to research hotels properly. We ended up here mainly because of price. If you’re thinking “you get what you pay for”, tbh I think there are places in the same price range who are much better. Anyway, the area is a bit sketchy to start. Dutch people are the minority. The building looks old too, inside AND outside. (Especially inside) Going inside, the lobby already had a certain smell. Further inside, our room smelled SO bad. It was hard to breathe until I adjusted to the smell (no one has to go through this!). I’d get a whiff of piss smell from time to time too, it was awful. The bottom of the bed was full of dust too. Something was probably hidden there. Then for the service, housekeeping doesn’t speak English. This gave me a feeling that maybe this hotel isn’t meant for tourists, but probably for migrants. One off thing that happened was 2 housekeeping people just barged in while we were inside. One good thing about our stay though was the bathroom. It was nice, and I think was recently renovated. Really nice.

Hotel is new and modern but they clearly don’t have the experience running a large hotel. At many times you could tell they were trying to figure things out. Early check in was promised. We got there at 12. Regular check in is 3. No room was ready at 4:30 even though promises of “a few minutes” and “we’ll call you” no one did. I had to complain and upgraded to a better room to be able to check in finally. Told us to go get a drink but not like they offer a free drink or anything. The room we got the washroom wasn’t especially clean. I had to scrub the grout so my wife didn’t see it and want to leave because of the mold. In a room behind the restaurant had pillows piled up on the ground, they had no idea what rooms were clean, and they couldn’t find our luggage for several minutes. Just really poorly organized. I told them all this when I checked out and they didn’t seem to care. Just smiled and said hope you enjoy better next time. There will not be a next time. Location is really far out, BUT the metro is right there and works good. View was nice. Overall not great

Because we lost our passport, the hotel reception is very nice! They willing to help us pass the stored luggage to our arrange courier , would have been needing to take 14 hours flight if they didn’t help. Very appreciated for their service to hotel guests! The place is nice, across there is a cafe. Close to rai. Their service is excellent. Appreciated that for the last bit !

I chose the hotel as it’s close to the event venue I’m attending . The room was very good - clean , spacious, big windows that can be open a bit for fresh air circulation. Love this. And the view of the room was spectacular especially in the morning and evening. Service was average , the counter staff pushed me to sign up for their membership for ‘early check in’ —- I was there at 12+pm and was in a hurry to attend my event. Saying that, the experience was general good.
