Hotels in Dongcheng District, Beijing

This guesthouse, tucked away in a hutong, is the former residence of Edgar Snow and perfectly captures the old Beijing hutong charm. I stayed at Beijing Zhong An Hotel for three days, and my overall experience was excellent. The hotel staff were warm and attentive; one of the service guys even helped me carry my luggage to the room. During my stay, I saw many foreign guests, which created a great atmosphere. The breakfast, especially, was a highlight. It was a Western and Chinese buffet with a rich variety of authentic dishes, catering to both Chinese breakfast preferences and Western light meals. The hotel's location is also superb, close to Beijing Railway Station. There's a small alleyway from the hutong that leads you to the hotel in about a hundred meters, and it's also very near Tiananmen Square, making transportation incredibly convenient. Overall, it's great value for money and highly recommended.

· Location: Easy walking distance to Wangfujing – super central! Also walking distance to metro line 8. · Transport: Didi pickups are easy right at the lobby entrance. · Bathroom: Great water pressure for the shower, plus a bathtub in the toilet for relaxing soaks. · Cleanliness: Room was spotless and comfortable. · Noise: Slight soundproofing issues (could hear hallway noise), but not a dealbreaker. · Perks: Loved having Miniso and gift shops in the lobby - so convenient.

An absolute 10/10 stay! We genuinely loved The Yard and would happily stay here again. The customer service was top-notch, every staff member we encountered was warm, friendly and incredibly helpful. The hotel itself has so much character. The traditional exterior is absolutely gorgeous, especially when the red lanterns light up at night, while inside our room was surprisingly spacious, cozy and beautifully decorated. We loved having a proper bathtub, the hot water worked perfectly throughout our stay, and housekeeping was excellent. Fresh towels, bottled water and other necessities were replenished daily, which we really appreciated. The location was another highlight! Step outside and you’re immediately surrounded by a lively street filled with shops and so much amazing street food, which we absolutely adored. Comfortable, welcoming, full of character and a wonderful base for exploring Beijing. Thank you to the lovely staff for making our stay so memorable!

The service, cleanliness, and location are all perfect for travelers. What truly impressed me was their integrity in returning lost items, which really warmed this 'traveler away from home.' As a guest, all I can say is that I will definitely be staying here again! Thank you all very much! I wish the hotel great success and fully booked rooms every day.

The hotel's location is excellent, with very convenient access to public transport and the subway. Most importantly, right outside the hotel is Tianqiao Roast Duck (the branch near the General Administration of Sport, where even athletes and celebrities queue to eat). A 500-meter walk takes you to Ya'er Li Ji for breakfast with their tofu pudding and beef buns, then braised pork noodles for lunch, and mutton spine hotpot for dinner... there are countless delicious food options, though I only have one stomach! The room service was great; the cleaning staff were very thorough and meticulously cleaned, also thoughtfully replenishing our bottled water daily. Overall, it was a very comfortable and satisfying stay with a fantastic experience. Plus, you might even bump into some athletes! 😯

Apart from the renovation which we were told beforehand, the room we had was dark (probably because it was a windowless room), humid, aircon wasn’t strong but they provided a fan. Could smell urine even with the toilet seat covered, toilet door was closed, to a point that i was awaken by the foul smell. Had to spray perfume to have it barely covered. Ventilation was super bad. Cons aside, service was good, fridge in room had free drinks. Would recommend to book a window room if you had to even though friend that stayed in the window room said it was bad too. There’s a mall few minutes walk away which was a plus. Good view on the reception floor too.

## Facilities The facilities were quite comprehensive. I was only in Beijing for an overnight stay, but the room was clean and hygienic, with a luggage rack and a place to hang clothes. ## Hygiene It was clean, and the cleaning was thorough. ## Environment To the north, there's a garden with a fountain. Everything was good, except for the slightly small room (though I knew the size when booking). ## Service The front desk staff were warm and attentive. Everything was great, except for the call I received rushing me to write a review after check-out. I had already informed them during check-out not to send a drink and that I would write a review when I had time, as I had a train to catch to Tianjin that afternoon. Being rushed to write a review while sightseeing in Tianjin was a very unpleasant experience. Does a review expire if it's written a few days later? Or does it cause some kind of loss for you? ## Special Compliment: Breakfast The breakfast was excellent every day. The auntie clearing tables was quick and even helped us find seats. The beef noodles and small wontons at the noodle station were delicious, and I had several bowls every day. Other dishes were also good and well-stocked. 6:30-7:30 AM is peak time for foreign guests, but around 7:30 AM, there are quite a few empty seats, though they fill up quickly.

I’m really torn about reviewing this place. 🥹 Pros: 1. The breakfast was light and well-balanced with a good mix of meat and vegetables, especially suitable for older people. My grandma had two bowls of millet porridge, haha. 2. The service attitude was excellent; they patiently answered our requests and even refilled my grandma’s porridge for free. They also gave us a fridge magnet when we checked out, though all the hotels we stayed at provided complimentary souvenirs. 3. The hotel location is great, right next to in88. Cons: The room was in an old-style courtyard house with only one window. The toilet was partitioned off from the main room and had no windows, so ventilation might not be ideal. There was a very strong air freshener in the room. I opened the window as soon as I entered and kept it open for ventilation, but I could still smell the strong scent all night. I woke up feeling a bit dizzy and it took a while to recover. I honestly don't recommend the hotel using such strong air fresheners. I’d happily give full marks for the service, but I have to be honest about the facilities.

The location of the hotel was good and there were two metro stations close by. The biggest problem is the cleaning. I read the comments here on trip before booking and thought they were being picky but it is really that bad. Even as you enter, the hotel has a B grade document in terms of hygiene, which is already concerning. The bedsheets and pillows were fine but all other surfaces were full of sticky dirt that stays when the place isn't cleaned properly so the dirt just gets wet and sticks. The shower had a wood drawer inside that always gets wet whenever you shower and it was really disgusting. Despite the ok price and the good service, I definitely wouldn't stay there again. And they urgently need to improve their cleaning.
