InterContinental Hotels in Chengdu

A while ago, my child wished to 'stay at Universal and play until we don't go home!' So, we chose a room package with a water park, kicking off a fantastic two-day, one-night weekend. I have to say, the hotel package truly offered incredible value for money! Unfortunately, my child suddenly fell ill on the day of check-in. Faced with this situation, he was understandably a bit disappointed and unhappy. Thankfully, our warm and thoughtful butler, Diana, provided full support and ensured everything was taken care of, making sure our fun wasn't diminished and leaving us feeling incredibly comforted! This also made us even more grateful for and fond of InterContinental! Speaking of the hotel itself, although it's an older property, our room indicated that it's very well-maintained overall, much better than we expected. Even the sofa cushions on the balcony were spotless. We stayed in Block D, which is a bit far from the lobby but very close to the park. It's great for a leisurely stroll, and if you really don't want to walk a single step, the frequent shuttle buses are very convenient. The hotel's breakfast is very impressive, both exquisite and comprehensive. The freshly made Guokui (flatbread) on-site, the rich and freshly prepared congee, and the comforting Wagyu noodles are all highlights that can awaken an early morning appetite. The dining environment is protected from the elements, allowing you to enjoy the pleasant outdoor waterside ambiance – absolutely fantastic. This place is truly a top choice for a weekend or short holiday 'staycation' in the city, especially for families like ours. It boasts a plethora of dining options at the Global Center, and the hotel's own food is also quite good. With kids, you can enjoy the water park, 'Pan Xiaobao,' and 'Super Neilbo' (great for a whole day) without leaving the premises, as well as the exquisite and fun 'Alice Tree' (two parks) and 'Explore Cave Factory' (suitable for half a day) parks. Even though we checked out and went home yesterday, and my child couldn't play in the water park due to illness, he's already asking me today when we're going back to this hotel. That alone shows how much he loved it here.

Is this seriously a five-star hotel anymore?? I wasn't even going to write a review, but the more I think about it, the more annoyed I get. The first picture shows the fruit platter we ate from the day before, still sitting there with stains when we came back. The second picture shows urine stains from the previous night, also still there. The kicker is, staff *did* come in to clean. I'm speechless. I get that I'm not paying 200 yuan expecting five-star service, but I still paid good money. The front desk staff always act like I owe them something. Only the doorman at the entrance was nice; every other service person was utterly terrible! Is this what happens when an old five-star hotel gets too comfortable, thinking it's a luxury brand or something? Also, my deposit hasn't been refunded, and it's been two days already. Is IHG using customer deposits as their own cash flow, seriously? Let it sit in the account for a couple more days to earn more interest, right? If you don't have money, don't run a hotel!
