InterContinental Hotels in Shanghai

I booked two rooms for one night using a voucher. During our stay, we had executive lounge access, which included breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour. We were also offered a late 4 PM checkout, subject to availability. We arrived around 2 PM on the check-in day, but were told our rooms weren't ready. We didn't get to check in until 4 PM. Luckily, we enjoyed a simple afternoon tea at the executive lounge while we waited. The afternoon tea selection was just okay, but they refilled items promptly. Coffee was from a Nespresso machine, and soft drinks were self-serve and unlimited. Our room was on the 10th floor, near the executive lounge, with a view of the walkway between exhibition areas 5 and 6. The size wasn't too small (though it didn't have the chaise lounge shown in the pictures). The king-size bed was truly huge, and on the softer side. The minibar had a separate charge (with a price list provided), but bottled water, Nespresso capsules, and tea bags were complimentary. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, and a large bathtub. The wall between the bathroom and the room was fixed, not a movable partition. There were speakers in the bathroom connected to the TV. The shower stall was a bit small, and water tended to spill out. I also have to complain about the wall-mounted toiletries – I wanted to use some shower gel for a bath but couldn't find any. The hotel pool is on the 5th floor, and the water quality was pretty clean. It's also open to the public. Next to it, there's a hot tub. There were three lifeguards on duty. The executive lounge area isn't very large. Breakfast is also served here, but the variety isn't as extensive as the buffet restaurant on the first floor. The upside is that it's much less crowded. Happy hour, however, gets incredibly busy. There wasn't enough seating in the executive area, and the food selection was mediocre. Hot dishes were gone within minutes, so fast I couldn't even take pictures. There were mostly flour-based items. For the cold dishes, I managed to snap a photo at the very beginning, but the presentation was never like that again. The food items changed, and the soup of the day was served at our table. Cocktails (including non-alcoholic options) were available during happy hour. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Side note (no comparison, no harm done): The other room in our booking was upgraded to a premium room, which was noticeably more comfortable. It had three large closets, an ironing board, a chaise lounge, and a movable partition between the bathroom and the room. The shower area was also significantly larger. Unfortunately, bookings made through third-party platforms do not qualify for IHG points.

I recently stayed at InterContinental Shanghai Jing’an and had a very pleasant experience overall. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its location. It is conveniently situated near Shanghai Railway Station and provides easy access to the metro, making it simple to get around the city whether you’re visiting for business or leisure. There are also plenty of dining and shopping options within a short distance. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. Check-in was smooth, and whenever I had a question, the team was happy to assist with a smile. Their professionalism and hospitality definitely made the stay more enjoyable. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable, and I appreciated the cleanliness of both the room and bathroom. The hotel has the upscale feel you would expect from an InterContinental property, while still feeling warm and comfortable. Bidet was a huge plus. Along with the shower While some areas of the hotel are starting to show a little age compared to newer luxury hotels in Shanghai, it is still very well kept and offers excellent value considering the location, facilities, and service. Overall, I had a great stay and would happily choose InterContinental Shanghai Jing’an again on a future visit to Shanghai. The convenient location and friendly staff were the highlights for me.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a few steps from the riverside promenade, perfect for cycling, jogging, or a leisurely stroll. Although the room facilities aren't the newest, they are well-maintained and convenient to use. I especially loved the double vanity in the bathroom. The room also offered a nice river view. The hotel's fitness center and pool were quite busy, and the 1188 restaurant on the ground floor was even more crowded for the evening buffet, which offered a decent variety of food and drinks. Outside the 1188 restaurant, there's an old villa district that used to be the Shanghai Alcohol Factory dormitory. It's now preserved and converted into an English-style pub, though I'm not sure if it's currently in operation. Now for some areas that could be improved: The young lady with glasses at the front desk during check-in spoke in a very soft voice throughout, almost mumbling, and showed no enthusiasm. This was a stark contrast to my previous experiences with InterContinental hotels. I wonder if they treat business and non-business guests differently.

My stay at the InterContinental Ruijin was absolutely fantastic, earning a perfect score! It's truly an exceptional choice for a city getaway in Shanghai. The hotel is nestled within historic buildings, a collection of charming vintage villas scattered elegantly. The red-brick architecture paired with exquisite carvings exudes the unique grandeur and sophistication of old Shanghai. Each building showcases a classical beauty shaped by time, creating an incredibly atmospheric ambiance. The hotel's garden landscape is equally stunning. The entire area is lush and verdant, with flourishing plants, ancient trees, and intertwining vines, making the air delightfully fresh. The expansive central lawn is perfectly manicured and vibrantly green. Sunlight filtering through the trees creates soft, gentle shadows, making every photo Instagram-worthy. It's a tranquil and therapeutic escape, completely isolated from the city's hustle and bustle – utterly relaxing. Throughout my stay, the service was attentive, meticulous, warm, and thoughtful. From check-in and concierge transfers to everyday inquiries, the staff were consistently enthusiastic, polite, and quick to respond. They thoughtfully arranged electric cart transfers between the main building and the VIP building, showcasing incredible attention to detail. The entire experience was comfortable and truly pleasant. I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a Grand Deluxe King Room in the VIP building, which I was thrilled about. The lobby manager and Mr. He Hui, the concierge at the VIP building, left a particularly strong impression. The room's decor was elegant and sophisticated, with high-quality hard finishes. Marble flooring and exquisite ceilings added a touch of luxury. Vintage art on the walls and refined wooden furnishings throughout exuded a classic cultural heritage and a timeless quality. The room facilities were comprehensive and well-maintained, blending vintage charm with modern comfort – quiet yet luxurious. While I didn't experience much of the dining, the breakfast selection was incredibly rich and diverse, featuring a wide variety of Chinese and Western dishes, desserts, and beverages. The ingredients were fresh, exquisitely prepared, and of high quality. Overall, the InterContinental Ruijin combines beauty, heritage, and excellent service. Its classical architecture, magnificent gardens, attentive service, and exquisite dining perfectly complement each other, resulting in a wonderfully therapeutic and perfect stay. It's definitely a place worth revisiting!

Great hotel with amazing friendly staff, this was my fifth hotel I booked in Shanghai during our long 3 weeks stay and it was the best location. The management did everything possible to make our stay more comfortable and accommodate all of our needs.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, I brought my family for a trip nearby. The Shimao Wonderland InterContinental, though I'd heard mixed reviews online, I decided to experience it for myself. After confirming our check-in time and our preference for a quiet room, Hanna from the front desk proactively added me on WeChat. She reminded me that because it was a holiday and there was an amusement park nearby, parking might be tight, advising me to inform her 30 minutes in advance so she could make arrangements. We checked in on Dragon Boat Festival noon, and I was surprised to see the lobby's seating area packed with people and a long queue at the front desk. However, thanks to Hanna's foresight, our room was already reserved, making the check-in process quick and efficient. Our room was arranged away from the elevator, and the soundproofing was remarkably good. We couldn't hear any plumbing from the adjacent rooms or the floors above/below, whether it was the shower or the toilet. This undisturbed experience is a rare find, whether in hotels built years ago or newly constructed ones, a truly effective soundproofing is hard to come by. There was a minor issue with the sink drainage during our stay, which was promptly resolved, showing their attentive service. However, I have to complain about the sink's design; it was a square basin, which easily splashed water, and water tended to accumulate near the faucet – not very practical. Our stay included a complimentary travel photoshoot with three free photos. The photographer was excellent at creating a lively atmosphere, and our family portrait turned out vibrant and natural, boosting our mood significantly! Online reviews for the Western restaurant were mediocre, but the Chinese restaurant, Cai Feng Lou, received many positive comments. I spontaneously decided to try it, worried about not getting a table, but Hanna immediately helped us book a table for that evening. The standout dish in the set meal was the diced wagyu beef – a true test of a chef's skill. Each piece was large, yet perfectly tender, flavorful, and didn't get stuck in your teeth. This mastery certainly justifies the numerous trophies and prestigious brand accolades at the entrance! At the restaurant entrance, there was also an introduction to the Shimao Quarry Hotel's background and construction history. Indeed, many aspects of its design were quite visionary, considering it took 12 years to build! The cliffside light show at 8:30 PM featured stunning opening audio effects, and the fountain design added a lot to the visual impact of the mythological story. The Chenshan Botanical Garden, included in our hotel package, was even more amazing. I felt like I could spend two days there, enjoying nature, the charm of the vast lawn, the beauty of the dawn redwood forest, and the tranquility of the camphor forest. Overall, it was a good experience, but the price was just too unfriendly. Even without it being a major holiday, it was so expensive. Given the current economic climate, a more affordable price would be needed to maintain sustained market demand.

The hotel has excellent amenities, including an outdoor lawn and a play area, making it perfect for families with children. It's within walking distance to Dishui Lake, which is great for a relaxing stroll. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, and the breakfast offers fresh and diverse options. The mini wontons and Cifantuan (sticky rice balls) were particularly delicious. The staff are friendly, and both check-in and check-out were hassle-free, ensuring a fantastic family vacation experience.
