Shenzhen surprises anyone expecting the typical Asian chaos. Since the city was built practically from scratch in just a few decades, everything was planned to be modern from the very beginning. There are wide avenues, spacious pavements, and completely flat terrain, which makes walking around very pleasant, even if you are travelling with children or elderly people.
Many visitors say the same thing: Shenzhen is completely different from what they expected. The city has more of a Singaporean flair than that of a traditional Chinese metropolis. There are hardly any large crowds on the streets, except in certain places like Huaqiangbei at the weekend.

I booked two rooms for a business trip; booking through Trip.com is always super convenient. Our butler, Joy, provided exceptional service—she arranged for both rooms to be on the same floor and even gave us a room upgrade. The rooms were quite spacious and well-equipped, complete with a bathtub. Both the hairdryer and the air conditioning worked consistently well. During check-in, Joy kindly reminded me that there is a bar street on the south side of the hotel. However, I really wanted a room with a good view, so I insisted on staying on the south side anyway. It turned out to be a great decision—I had a wonderful night's sleep and didn't find it noisy at all. The Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen boasts an excellent location, ideal for frequent travelers between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Situated in the Futian Free Trade Zone, it's very close to the Futian and Huanggang Port immigration checkpoints, offering convenient access to Futian CBD and the Convention and Exhibition Center. Getting to Futian Station by taxi is also very easy.
The guest rooms are spacious, and the Four Points' signature comfortable beds provide a great night's sleep. The rooms are clean and tidy, with complete bathroom facilities and stable internet. Some room types even offer river views. The soundproofing is good, ensuring a peaceful rest. Check-in at the front desk was efficient, and the service attitude was attentive.
The breakfast buffet offers a rich variety of options, a good mix of Western and Chinese cuisine, including freshly made Cantonese dim sum like Chee Cheong Fun and Koay Teow. The food quality is consistently good, and the dining environment is comfortable. Hotel amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour gym, and ample parking space in the underground car park, including charging spots, which is very convenient for those traveling by car.

First off, the hotel's location is excellent, right in the heart of Futian CBD. It's incredibly convenient for transportation, with Futian High-Speed Rail Station and multiple (5!) subway lines right next to the hotel. There are also plenty of dining and shopping options nearby, like Link CentralWalk, Star River COCO Park, and Shopping Park. The room itself was very spacious, and it even had a walk-in closet, which I haven't seen in the same room type at Shangri-La hotels I've stayed at in Beijing, Xi'an, Xiamen, Nanchang, Chengdu, Sanya, or Guangzhou. I know this hotel is undergoing renovations, and some packages for the new room types even include lounge access and five meals a day, which offers excellent value for money!
First, regarding the room, the newly renovated style is minimalist and refined. The room feels very spacious and has excellent natural light. The bathroom amenities include Diptyque shampoo, shower gel, and lotion, which was a very pleasant touch.
Next, concerning the dining, the five meals included afternoon tea, happy hour, evening dessert and drinks after check-in, and breakfast and lunch on the second day. The afternoon tea was a pleasant surprise. Although the food selection for happy hour wasn't extensive, it focused on quality over quantity. I didn't get to enjoy the late-night dessert session, but I learned that it was a chocolate-themed dessert night, and the themes are updated regularly. It's worth noting that no matter when you dine, you can enjoy unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Finally, I'd like to commend the hotel's service. All the staff I encountered during this stay were extremely polite and friendly. Especially Miss Sahar at the front desk, the check-in process was very smooth and efficient, and she even followed up afterward to see if I needed any assistance. A male staff member in the lounge also provided very professional service, always greeting us with a warm smile every time we entered the lounge for a meal.

This time, my Trip.com booking was a bit odd, split into two parts, so I guess I'll write a bit more. The executive lounge service was excellent, and the coffee was great! As for the room, after the upgrade, it was incredibly spacious! From one direction, you could even see the Ping An Finance Centre, Shenzhen's tallest landmark. A small detail, it seems the hair dryer has been upgraded to a Dyson, which is quite good. One evening, I got back late, so I just had a quick bite at the Japanese restaurant on the 6th floor, which was surprisingly good. The ingredients seemed very fresh, and I didn't feel heavy after eating. Breakfast at the 29th-floor executive lounge lasts a bit longer than the 6th-floor, until 11 AM. After my morning workout, I went up at exactly 11 AM, which was a bit late, but Ms. Carrie was very patient and asked the chef to make me an omelette, which was very kind. The room was very spacious, with two 1.4m beds. Our child slept in the middle, and adults on either side. The beds weren't as soft as some reviews mentioned, so turning over didn't wake anyone. We didn't even need air conditioning in this weather; we actually needed a blanket in the latter half of the night, and the duvet thickness was just right. There were no strange odors in the room. The bathroom was roomy, with both a shower and a bathtub. It was reassuring to put a non-slip mat in the tub and fill it with warm water to wash our sandy child's bottom. The complimentary double afternoon tea was also good; two adults and one child enjoyed three sandwiches, and our child loved them. There's a shuttle service to the InterContinental Hotel beach every half hour, on the hour and half-hour. During the National Day holiday, when it's busy, they run more frequently based on demand. This was our second stay, and they upgraded our room without us even asking, to a higher floor (9th floor) with a sea view, which exceeded our expectations. Overall, the value for money is excellent. The hotel service was warm and prompt; refilling mineral water and delivering a child's toothbrush was very quick. My only personal preference, which I'm a bit particular about, is that if you leave the bathroom night light on for older people, it's too bright and illuminates the bed area. It would be better if there were a floor light design in the bathroom. In the end, we turned off the bathroom light. During the National Day holiday, my family and I stayed at the Hilton. I was initially worried about long queues for check-in during the holiday, but to my surprise, the guest relations staff helped coordinate everything, making the entire process quick and smooth. The hotel is located in an area with excellent amenities, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
As soon as we arrived in the lobby, someone helped us with our luggage. The room felt comfortable from the first glance; the housekeeping was impeccable, with tabletops and bathroom corners wiped spotless, no water stains or dust. The room facilities were well-maintained; the air conditioning provided stable heating, the bathroom water flow was smooth, the bedding was soft, and the soundproofing was also good. The location is truly convenient, close to taxis and subways, with many shopping malls and restaurants nearby.
We had a minor issue during our stay, and the guest relations department responded very quickly, patiently helping us resolve it properly. Upon check-out, we even received a souvenir from the hotel, which was a very thoughtful touch. The only minor drawback was that during the National Day breakfast rush, seating was a bit tight, but the staff were constantly guiding guests. Opened in 2009, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen is already 17 years old, making it a truly 'old' hotel in China. When you talk about old hotels, there's always the sentiment of 'new over old' and a dismissive scorn for outdated decor. However, my impression of the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen is 'old on the outside, young at heart.'
The hotel's decor undeniably feels dated and old-fashioned by today's standards. Yet, the presence of new bidet toilets and sturdy, well-maintained bathroom fixtures prevents the hardware from feeling run-down. Furthermore, the meticulous and neat bed-making clearly demonstrates the hotel's housekeeping department is on top of their game. I'm not sure if all rooms are like this, but in the corner king room I stayed in, there was a palpable sense that even the air felt clean. This is thanks to the meticulously clean windows, which at one point gave me the impression of being in a Japanese hotel.
The hotel is very close to Luohu Port, and from the guestroom, you can take in panoramic views of Luohu landmarks such as Kingkey 100 and Diwang Building. Luohu must be considered an older district in Shenzhen, and it certainly lives up to its reputation with plenty of dining, drinking, and entertainment options! The sky lobby offers stunning views. The twin room in the Club Lounge was spacious and comfortable, the bedding provided a very restful sleep, and the cleanliness was impeccable. The service was attentive and courteous. The food selection at the Club Lounge was diverse and delicious. It was an excellent stay! The Club Lounge twin room was spacious and clean, with meticulous service, and the executive lounge was a great place to eat and relax. First off, the check-in time was indeed quite long, but it's understandable given it was peak summer season. They even offered drinks while we waited, which was a nice touch! As an InterContinental member, I also received two complimentary drinks at the bar.
The hotel's facilities are excellent. I went for a spa treatment while my child and husband went swimming – a perfect arrangement. As soon as I finished my spa, the butler notified me that our room key was ready! There was also a welcome fruit platter in the room.
The room's view was absolutely unbeatable! We truly felt at home and enjoyed every moment.
However, I actually found the breakfast to be even better than the dinner buffet. The oil-splashed noodles at breakfast were delicious 😋, and the chef who made them had such character, clearly demonstrating his passion for food. I really admire him! Thumbs up to him! 👍
For dinner, the seafood wasn't very fresh; the oysters and crab meat were quite loose. Plus, on the second night, we wanted to try the Southeast Asian restaurant, but upon arrival, many dishes were unavailable, which was a bit disappointing, so we left to eat elsewhere. Also, the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM.

This is probably the most comfortable Hilton I've ever stayed at, and specifically the Nanhai Wing. It's the renovated old-school Shenzhen's first five-star Nanhai Hotel, and it even has a small garden downstairs, giving it a full retro resort vibe. The Wanghai Wing, on the other hand, is more postmodern in style. The front desk staff thoughtfully gave us an extra breakfast. The kids' toiletries, slippers, and bathrobes were also adorable. Room service was excellent. The Nanhai pool is 2 meters deep, perfect for a comfortable swim, and it wasn't crowded even during the National Day holiday. The public areas also have a sauna, hot tubs, and relaxation areas. The Wanghai side has a shallower outdoor pool suitable for kids and a dedicated children's pool, which tends to be a bit busier. There's also an indoor pool and a jacuzzi. The shuttle service between the two hotels is frequent, but they're actually very close, just a 3-minute walk apart. The suite in the Nanhai Wing offers excellent value for money compared to equivalent room types in the Wanghai Wing. It has two large balconies and a sofa bed that can be opened up, easily accommodating a family of four. The room design is great, with the bathroom, shower, toilet, and walk-in closet each being independent spaces that can be separated by sliding doors. Getting around from the Nanhai Wing is also very convenient; the elevator is very close to the lobby entrance, and you don't need to go up and down hills within the hotel. It's a 10-minute walk to the Sea World commercial area nearby. I'd definitely recommend the Nanhai Wing for a super chill holiday next time.From239 AZN

Kempinski Shenzhen enjoys a very convenient location, making it a great choice for both business and leisure travellers.
The hotel has been operating for around 20 years, so some parts of the property do show their age. However, I was impressed by how well maintained everything is. The overall condition remains clean, comfortable and well cared for.
While the design may not feel as modern as some of the newer hotels in Shenzhen, the hotel still offers the quality, comfort and service expected from the Kempinski brand.
Overall, a solid choice if you value a great location, reliable service and a well-maintained hotel. It may be an older property, but it has been maintained very well over the years.

I stayed in a runway view king room during the National Day holiday, and the overall experience was good. It's a great airport hotel for aviation enthusiasts.
From an aviation enthusiast's perspective, the hotel itself is a fantastic spot for taking photos. The 5th-floor terrace and some rooms offer excellent views for photographing the southern approach to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport's west runway. The hotel rooms feature a double-window design: the inner window can be fully opened, while the outer window has a normal restrictor, allowing for ventilation but not full opening. This design effectively balances soundproofing and security with a good viewing experience. It's quite enjoyable to sit on the sofa and watch the bustling airport outside.
From a regular guest's perspective, the hotel's soundproofing is excellent. With both windows closed, the room remains relatively quiet even when large aircraft start their engines on the tarmac outside or when bird-scaring cannons are used nearby. This is a crucial feature for an airport hotel.
The hotel is connected to the terminal via a dedicated walkway, making it less than a 15-minute walk to the check-in counters, which is very convenient. The P2 parking lot is located downstairs, making car rental and return equally convenient.
The room amenities are standard for a hotel of this caliber, including a bathtub, although the bathroom felt a bit cramped overall. The garden terrace on the 5th floor is a major highlight, perfect for both plane spotting and relaxing strolls in the garden and on the lawn.
Service was warm and attentive. During breakfast and dinner buffets, order was well-maintained. When children cried, staff proactively assisted parents in calming them down, striving to maintain a quiet and comfortable dining environment. Pool management was also very good; even with large crowds during the National Day holiday, the changing rooms remained clean and orderly.
Regarding dining, I tried breakfast, the evening buffet, and the Chinese restaurant. Breakfast offered a rich variety, with comprehensive congee, noodle, egg, and pancake stations, and some daily variations. The evening buffet and Chinese restaurant were generally decent, and the dinner even featured a live singer, creating a pleasant atmosphere.
I have two suggestions for future improvements. First, parking guidance. The hotel has its own parking area on the L floor and also uses the airport's P2 parking. It took some effort to find the L-floor parking area on my first visit, and I hope the signage and guidance along the way can be improved. Second, there are several steps between the L-floor parking area and the hotel lobby, which is inconvenient for guests with luggage. I hope a ramp or other accessible pathways can be added in the future.
Overall, it was a great stay. It's an ideal choice for guests needing to catch a flight, rent a car, and especially for aviation enthusiasts. I would consider staying here again on my next visit to Shenzhen.From145 AZN
🔴 Hong Kong: Tradition, altitude and more energy
Hong Kong is different, as it is not part of mainland China. Here, you immediately notice the mix of old neon signs and glass skyscrapers as soon as you leave the underground – everything is packed tightly into a small space that actually feels too small for so much activity. The pace of life is significantly faster than in Shenzhen, with the feeling of a city that never quite rests.
One thing must be said, though: on the island, this also means constantly having to climb hills and stairs, and many travellers find their legs feeling heavy after a few days exploring Soho. But you’ll be rewarded with that famous view of Victoria Harbour.

I've stayed at Dorsett several times for business trips. Last time, there was an adapter in the room, but this time there wasn't. When I asked, I was told it didn't meet requirements, so adapters are no longer provided in the rooms. You need to bring your own now. I found a power bank nearby to rent for 8 HKD/hour, which is quite capitalistic, but it works in a pinch.
Everything else is pretty good; I've had good stays every time. The view is nice, and the breakfast is also good. Booking through Ctrip even got me a box of Jenny Bakery cookies. I really think this place offers great value for money. It wasn't much more expensive than hotels near the Shenzhen border, and the room was much bigger than I expected and looked quite proper.
Before coming here, I had actually lowered my expectations, wondering what kind of hotel you could get for just over 300 (excluding tax) during the summer holiday. After all, the night before, I paid over 200 near the Shenzhen border for a room with a tiny window, no soundproofing, and even mold. So, I was genuinely surprised when I arrived! It's a standalone hotel building with a spacious lobby on the ground floor. The staff were also very friendly. I'm from a remote part of Chongqing and only speak Mandarin, not Cantonese, but I didn't feel discriminated against at all.
They have a free shuttle service, which I didn't know about at first. You can take the shuttle from Tsuen Wan MTR station (exit E) – the pickup point is next to Metroplaza on the opposite side. You don't need anything to board the shuttle to the hotel, but you do need to book in advance with the front desk for the return trip. One minor drawback is that check-in isn't until 3 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM the next day, which is different from mainland China, so you'll need to plan your time accordingly.From110 AZN

My wife and I stayed at Royal View Hotel in Tsuen Wan, and the hotel itself is genuinely beautiful. The property is clean, well‑maintained, and located near a gorgeous beach, which adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. We also really enjoyed the pool and sauna, and the pool attendants were polite, friendly, and professional — a real highlight of our stay.
Unfortunately, the front‑desk service was consistently unpleasant, and it stood in stark contrast to the quality of the hotel’s facilities.
We arrived around 12 p.m. and were told check‑in wasn’t until after 3 p.m., which was completely fine. But without me saying anything, the woman at the desk responded with “those are the rules, too bad,” in a rude, dismissive tone. I hadn’t questioned the policy at all, so her attitude was genuinely surprising and uncalled for.
Later, when it was after 3 p.m., I went back to the front desk and asked, “Can I check in now?” A different woman looked at me with clear disdain and replied, “What?” in a harsh, unfriendly way. I repeated myself, and she continued to stare at me until another staff member stepped in and offered to help. The attitude from almost every person at the front desk was strangely hostile, as if guests were inconveniences rather than customers.
The same pattern continued when we asked about late check‑out. We were told, in another harsh tone, “There’s no late check‑out here. You need to leave before 12.” Again, the issue wasn’t the policy — it was the rude, unprofessional way it was delivered.
At one point, I asked a staff member if they had a razor available. The response was, “We don’t have razors, it’s Hong Kong law,” said in a very unpleasant manner. My 9‑year‑old son later told me that razors were available for purchase in the vending machine — something the staff member failed to mention. It would have taken only a few seconds to say, “You can buy one downstairs,” but instead I was met with unnecessary rudeness.
The contrast between this experience and our recent stay at Crown Hotel in Shenzhen, where the staff were warm, polite, and welcoming, was dramatic. At Royal View, the front‑desk staff behaved as if they were doing us a favor, and their attitude felt completely untrained and unprofessional.
It’s genuinely sad, because we loved the hotel itself — the facilities, the cleanliness, the pool, the sauna, and the beautiful beach nearby were all excellent. But the poor customer service at the front desk seriously affected our stay. After dropping off my luggage around noon, I didn't get my room until nearly 4 PM (it was really busy, and I was on the 41st floor). Traveling from Xiamen to Hong Kong, it seems that due to environmental protection policies, hotels in Hong Kong no longer provide disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste. This hotel is conveniently located next to Prince Edward MTR Station, making transportation easy. There are also many shops nearby, which is great for shopping. The room was larger than expected; we, a family of three, chose a king-sized bed (1.8m), and the movable sofa could be used as a barrier next to it. Overall, it was quiet, but when actually sleeping, the air conditioner seemed a bit loud – something that could be improved. There were earplugs in the room, but I wasn't sure if they were complimentary since it wasn't specified, so I didn't use them. A universal adapter was provided. It would be even better if disposable slippers were offered for children. Check-in is after 3 PM; before that, you can only store your luggage. I stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights because I heard it had good access to Hong Kong Disneyland.
There wasn't much difference in price between a taxi and the train from the airport to the hotel, so I took a taxi. The room was simple, and the amenities were truly minimal (just a toothbrush and slippers), but since I only needed a place to sleep, I was satisfied. The slippers were quite thin and flimsy, so I recommend bringing your own if that bothers you.
I also stayed at the end of August, but the room was quite cold; it was chilly even with the air conditioning off, so I suggest bringing a jacket or cardigan. There were two rolls of toilet paper, but once one ran out, it wasn't replaced. Hand towels and bath towels were replenished daily.
I could hear some noise from the adjacent room, but there are a lot of international guests, so I guess that's to be expected given the clientele. The building where the hotel is located has a supermarket and many Japanese restaurants, so you won't have trouble finding food.
I only noticed it later, so I couldn't use it, but there was information in the room drawer about discounts available at Aeon (apparently, you just need to show your room key). The access to Disneyland was good, and for about 10,000 yen per day for two people, I was satisfied with the price as well.From109 AZN

During the National Day holiday, I accompanied my mother to Hong Kong for a friend's daughter's wedding. After the successful wedding, we decided to extend our stay for two more days and chose to check into the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel. It's a well-established five-star brand with an excellent location, directly facing Victoria Harbour and the Avenue of Stars.
Although the hotel is a bit old, it's well-maintained and clean. The rooms have an old-fashioned style, exuding a classic, retro charm. The room size is quite spacious for Hong Kong standards, comfortable and cozy. We booked a partial sea view room, but couldn't fully see the sea view.

I stayed at this hotel over 10 years ago. Although it has been renovated, the service is noticeably worse than before. Here are a few points:
1. At 3 PM check-in, no rooms were available. We only got our room key at 4:30 PM.
2. Upon entering the room, we found a used band-aid from the previous guests still on the floor (which was quite unpleasant) and not cleaned up.
3. Loud music from a club downstairs went on until past midnight, making it impossible for us and our child to get any rest. Even though it was a weekend and there might have been events, it was simply unacceptable.
4. There's also something that made us very angry, and although it's not directly related to the hotel, I want to share it so future guests can be aware. The taxis outside the hotel – we might have encountered an extreme driver, not necessarily representative of most, but I'm just sharing my personal experience. We took a taxi from the hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui to Sogo in Causeway Bay. Without informing us, the driver took a detour over the cross-harbor bridge. I only found this out later when the price seemed wrong. He didn't take the usual tunnel, and as a result, the fare was HKD 193. Taking the tunnel usually costs around HKD 65, which we had paid before. So, I want to remind future guests to be careful when taking taxis.
However, there was one thing we were satisfied with: the housekeeping staff on our floor had surprisingly good service. They always smiled, greeted us, and said hello.From270 AZN
