We arranged our wedding with Paige from the weddings team at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble from start to finish, and any questions we had were answered throughout the process and on the run up to the wedding and very accommadating when we needed to change any details or ask opinions . We stayed on the night prior to the wedding and from arrival the staff could not do enough for us and other family members with our party, the weddings team were amazing food was fantastic and they all made the day very special, especially Eamon our Master of Ceremonies who guided us through the day and thought of everything to ensure any worries were taken away throughout the day!
Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel

For the most part, this is a lovely hotel. It cost us around £7 for a taxi into Chester and the rooms are clean. The majority of staff are incredibly friendly. However, while out during the day our keys were deactivated to force us to the reception so that the manager could corner me about where my car was parked - which had been mentioned to another member of staff during check in and they had said it wasn't a problem. She had been trying to call me on the hotel room phone ”all day”, which is a ridiculous approach as who sits in their room all day? If she had just called me on my mobile number, which was used to book the room, I would have happily come back and moved the car. She demanded I move it in that moment and I explained that I'd had a drink but I'd move it in the morning. She then said she would move my car, which I wasn't comfortable with. She then walked away from me and wouldn't allow a rational, adult conversation. The tone and attitude were accusatory and her frustration clearly misdirected when she has made no realistic efforts to contact me; we were in the hotel until 11am and, as I said, I had my phone with me all day. I tried to explain to the reception staff why my car was where it was, and that I had discussed it on a rival and was dismissed with a ”well I wasn't there so I wouldn't know” then she smirked at another guest. It's such a shame that has really put a dampner on the stay for us, as it was totally unnecessary.

We have had a lovely stay, and it would only take a few tweaks to make this hotel better. Good: *It's in the perfect location, we took an uber into the centre of Chester for less than £5. *Breakfast was relaxed with a great selection as a buffet service. *Spacious room with all the amenities you need. *Plenty of free parking. *Beautiful grounds and really quiet at night. *Great value for money Needs Improving: *Cleaning standard is average, black mold around the taps in the bathroom that could be easily resolved. *Bathroom floor was desperate for a good mop *Bed wasn't the comfiest as 2 twins fastened together leaving a gap in the middle. *Staffing levels affecting customer service levels, we decided to order room service, took an age to answer the phone and then said could be collected from reception, kind of goes against the point of room service, so we left it, not great for the hotels add on sales if that happens everytime. *No enough bar staff, we ordered food but it was cold and one meal was not what we ordered but too hungry to wait for it to be replaced, apparently fish finger sandwich is identical to fish and chips anyway according to the waitress! Like I said it won't take much for this hotel to raise it's customer service standards to an excellent level, more staff will fix most of the issues, despite everything mentioned we would probably stay again.

I came to visit family in Chester and chose this hotel as it was close to the train station and a nice walk into Chester. I love the modern look of this hotel, the under bed auto light was brilliant for night time bath room trip no need to turn on the lights. The black out curtains do there job really well I almost over slept, the staff were very helpful when i asked them for help. i will stay here again next time i visit the family
Holiday Inn Runcorn

I'm currently staying at the hotel.i did stay here a number of years ago, and it was a good hotel then.i checked in and went to my room,it was quite dirty throughout. So i went to reception and asked to change to a cleaner room.I then looked at that,it was still dirty.back to reception, again try another room.it had a smell like an open sewer.so back again, at this point I asked to see the manager. What I need to point out is the reception staff and manager were very polite and friendly. I was told its an old building and during rain sometimes the drains back up and cause a smell.i explained the dirtiness of the rooms, stains on carpets and beds, peeling painted walls, and grime along surfaces, you could play noughts and crosses on the surfaces due to the amount of dust and grime.the remote controls were filthy.put you off picking one up.eventually I got a clean room.the manager took me to check it out herself. She was a nice lady who was doing what she could.after that I thought I'd watch a bit of TV.but all the channels had been programmed in the wrong way, just made it vert awkward to find a show.this morning at breakfast I went to restaurant and wanted a cup of coffee.went to machine and no cups, you have to ask to have one brought out.ok then.i ordered some pancakes of menu after 25 minutes 2 dried pancakes were brought out.ok ill have a glass of orange juice, lukewarm .the buffet,o asked for a gork as non at table ,a stained set of cutlery were provided to me.breakfast it's self was fine,no issues there.but overall breakfast experience a let down.at nearly £17 a head it should be better.though mine was part of the room rate.as you read through this review some parts may seem trivial ,possibly so.but it's the fact that when you add up all these small things it gives a overall bad experience. I have stayed a various holiday inns, and this isn't really up there.i was offered 2000 ihg reward points as a gesture from the manager. To put that into context,it costs around 20 000 points for a 1 night stay at a holiday inn. So really you can't do anything with 2000 points.a percentage of the bill would have been more appropriated.i think this hotel needs a major overall, and some of the staff retraining. The positives are the reception staff and manager.
Oddfellows Chester Hotel & Apartments

Checking in at the main Oddfellows hotel was smooth but it would have helped to have the exact address of the apartment in advance, so we could park more easily. There is one parking space at the apartment but it is a tight entrance! Apartment 5 was upstairs and very spacious. The lounge/kitchen/diner was well set up and the tea and coffee available was very welcome. Bedrooms and bathrooms were large, comfy and clean (but could do with a few hooks for towels or coats). There is even a laundry room. Decof is quirky and the location is great - just off the main streets. Fabulous place to stay.
The Queen at Chester Hotel, BW Premier Collection

Just returned from a two day stay at the hotel with work. This hotel is centrally located next to the railway station. A typical hotel that caters for coach tours and corporate types. My room was on the ground floor of the main building. First of all the room was average and basic. Not serviced over two days either? Rubber bath mat was mouldy and dirty on the bottom. Window would not open either. The main issue was the strong smell of cannabis in the corridor that was a constant throughout my stay. In addition the room next door had a noisy room party as it was full of some Eastern European workers. Went quiet after midnight however. Would not recommend this hotel unless your on a budget. Premier inns are far superior in my opinion. Food and drink : Beer in the bar “real ale” was rank ! Food was ok but service was slow two hours for a two course meal to be gotten through. Breakfast was good though. Staff were polite throughout. Car parking is expensive £15 per night and not very secure.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Chester

OK, let's get the good things out of the way first. We stayed in a King Junior Suite, the room was lovely and clean, bathroom great, great location, good views, good breakfast, friendly staff (especially housekeeping) - no faults whatsoever with the general hotel experience. Now for the one grumble. I'd booked this weekend away for our Silver Wedding anniversary and I deliberately wanted a hotel with a nice pool etc. for some relaxing. So I selected this 'hotel and spa', largely based off the many pictures they posted of their pool, 'hot bubbly pool' (can't think of the right word), relaxing area etc. On checking in, you are given a sheet of paper and some way down it, it is implied that you have to pay £10 per person for a two hour slot in the pool. I asked at reception if this was really the case, as I couldn't quite believe it, to be met with a blank stare and being told that that was the case at all Hiltons (which is clearly nonsense). I still couldn't believe it, but did pay up. Anyway, it's true. This is pretty much the only hotel I've ever been to where you have to pay extra to use the pool. And £10 extra, per person, for a two hour slot. That could be a nightmare if you had kids with you. The rules are made even more confusing by the fact that they have two areas - One, is called 'The Spa' where you have paid-for treatments (sea**** facials and massages, I imagine) and then this paid for area called the 'Pool and Spa' which is essentially the pool, the hot bubbly bit, sauna etc. I'm not going to be over-dramatic and say that it spoilt the whole weekend, or anything like that, but it is crazy. It would be better if they mentioned this clearly when booking, and even gave you the option to add it on at that stage. Also, maybe let the staff know that this isn't the case at 'all Hiltons' at all.

A little piece of heaven! The room was very comfortable, well designed and with lovely nautical features throughout. On arrival, parking was excellent, friendly helpful staff, within minutes we were sat by the window, overlooking the fast flowing river, being entertained by the wildlife whilst enjoying a well earned drink after a nearly three hour drive! Location was perfect, breakfast, a joy! A birthday treat for my special girl which couldn't of been better, we will return.
