How to find a cheap hotel in Birmingham city centre?

After location, price is a key factor when choosing a hotel in Birmingham. Contrary to common belief, it is often possible to find affordable hotels in the city centre depending on the season, the type of property and how early you book.

Prices can vary during busy periods such as major events, conferences or exhibitions at the NEC or ICC, so planning ahead can help secure better deals.

To optimise your budget, it is recommended to:

  • compare prices across different travel dates, as rates can vary significantly depending on demand
  • book in advance for popular periods, or check last-minute deals for more flexible trips
  • use filters to set a maximum price per night and quickly identify the best options
  • prioritise well-rated hotels that offer good value for money rather than simply the lowest price
  • check options such as free cancellation or breakfast included to avoid extra costs

Hotels in Birmingham city centre cover a wide range of budgets, from budget accommodation near the station to more comfortable hotels around the canals and main shopping areas, making it possible to find options suited to different travel styles.

Very clean, modern, practical! Have a sofa for work and to watch TV together! The lounge has space for you to plug your laptop and work. These are all I needed. 10 mins walk from the city center. I will come back again for the value for money and friendly staff.

Located on part of the Birmingham University campus in Edgbaston so good location for academic conferences / visiting the university, also short distance to dental hospital, cricket ground, tennis centre etc. Plenty of free parking including blue badge and EV charging. Check-in was quick and efficient. Angela, who checked us in, was friendly and helpful. There is a large bar which serves smaller meals throughout the day and also a restaurant in the evening. The bar food was average price for hotel food (£12+ for sandwich with some soup)  and average quality. Room was clean and tidy, with modern decor. It was very spacious and well equipped with seating and table, ironing board, plenty of pillows, pod coffee machine and plenty of coffee pods, tea bags etc. Black out blinds worked well and there was minimal noise from other rooms / corridor. Would definitely stay again if in the Edgebaston / Birmingham area.

The location was perfect within walking distance from New Street Station, Sea life centre, Lego Discovery centre, Art gallery and museum. The check-in staff was super nice and friendly, we arrived earlier but they were happy for us to check in as our room was ready. The room was clean.

Great location – about a 5–6 minute walk from the train station, and Chinatown is right outside the hotel, so it’s very convenient for food and getting around. The room was quite spacious, which was nice since I stayed here with my partner for a Valentine’s Day trip. That said, the facilities feel a bit outdated, and the water pressure and temperature in the bathroom weren’t very stable.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and always enjoy my stay. Great facilities nice pool and spa which hardly any Birmingham hotels have. the bar is also really nice. Breakfast at the Hyatt is always a treat 😄 However some areas of the hotel do seem to be getting a bit tired and need an update considering the room cost.

The sister hotel of the Edgbaston Park Hotel, we stayed at Lucas House one of our nights as we were unable to book consecutively. We stayed in a room with two single beds. The bed was too small. It was hard to imagine how a tall person could sleep... The bathtub was also small. In addition, if the transparent waterproof door on the bathtub is pushed and pulled until it is flush, it will be difficult to open it from the inside. Fortunately, I have a partner who stays with me, otherwise I would be trapped in the bathtub if I was alone. Apart from the above two items, everything else is excellent. There is a small green fence outside the window and a small flower bed outside the hotel. From a distance, it looks like being in a fairy tale town. Breakfast and check-in are both done at the Edgbaston Hotel across the road.

The staffs are very friendly, the hotel is very welcome to the guests, hiper clean, quite difficult to find because Birmingham is a big City, however the local people around are very friendly and informative. The hotel is not far from Birmingham New Street train station, about 16 minutes away, what I noticed is that Birmingham City Centre have places opened 24 hours and I really recommend for anyone.

This is overall a very nice hotel. The service was very polite and friendly. The hotel was very clean. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean. But there were a few issues: 1. in the evening the car park was full. This may have been from visitors to the pub, or the public using it. 2. the doors have a very strong auto-close. This led to a lot of doors slamming at 6am as some guests were leaving.

The room was pretty quiet. I stayed on the basement level, so there was no window, but since I was only there for one night to sleep, it didn't bother me. The bedding and bathroom were very clean, and there was a door curtain. The bed was quite soft. Having the toilet and shower right in the room was very convenient. There was also a full-length mirror and a vanity table in the room. The front desk offered free, very fresh lemonade! However, my bedside lamp was broken and hadn't been repaired; it squeaked all night, which really affected my sleep. I've told them and hope it gets fixed soon.
